The worth of exposure from our at best infrequent appearances as lambs to the slaughter in the CL gets even more fantastical given that the stadium name is not allowed to be used if it is a sponsors message. so even if it was called SportsDirectArena it would not be referred to that way on CL nights, it'd be called "Rangers' stadium".

The thought that better players will be signed as a vehicle to gain entry to the champions league, while interesting, overlooks the fact that better players have little interest in playing in the Scottish league, as well as the greater financial benefits elsewhere.

That same premise was true for the last decade. You obviously always had the EPL, BL, Spanish and Italian leagues, but there were enough footballers out there willing to come here and do the job. And footballers have not simply died out or became a rare commodity. The main task is to find decent enough folk for the Premiership first, and Europe second. There sure is quite some talent to be found out there, our main problem might be having the right people doing the scouting.

And, BTW, getting into Europe should not be equated with winning anything there. At least at this moment and time. It would help to cover the running costs of the club though, something Ashley will sure want to keep down as well, so he does not need to invest that much. At Newcastle, he gets that from TV money and player sales.

We don't need world beaters to dominate Scottish football.

It overlooks a lot because it's in the main, spinning bullshit.

Follow the money, look at the MO and do the sums.
