Summer 2015 - Transfers and Rumours Thread

What happened to that 'wait until they have played for Rangers' mantra? :P

Very true. But I WILL give him time once he has signed, like any other player. Still think there are better players out there at that price.

Report: Rangers bid to re-sign Danny Wilson could collapse, player has other offers

Rangers could now fail to re-sign defender Danny Wilson, according to reports.

According to The Sun, Rangers' bid to re-sign defender Danny Wilson could fail, with the deal now in real danger of collapsing.

Rangers appointed new manager Mark Warburton last week, and the new boss must now rebuild a squad which lost 11 out of contract players this summer.

The Sun believe that Wigan Athletic defender Rob Kiernan is on the verge of making a move to Ibrox, but the club have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Danny Wilson.

Wilson, 23, captained Hearts to the Scottish Championship title this past season, but chose to leave the club this summer by invoking a release clause in his contract.

The centre back is now a free agent, and The Sun believe Wilson - who started his career at Ibrox before joining Liverpool in 2010 - has held talks over a return to Ibrox this week.

However, the report states that Rangers failed to reach an agreement with Wilson, and he could now return south of the border, as he has offers from English clubs; leaving Warburton to potentially look elsewhere for defensive reinforcements.

Alternative target?

If the bid for Wilson does fail, Warburton will need to find another defender to partner Kiernan in the heart of defence - and he could return to former club Brentford to land one.

Reports from The Sun earlier this week suggested that Bees defender Alfie Mawson was a target for Warburton, given that the duo worked together at Griffin Park.

The 21-year-old centre back is out of contract this summer and could now become a starter at Rangers if Wilson doesn't sign this summer; and having impressed on loan at Wycombe last season, Mawson could be a bargain signing for Rangers.

Also lifted from our FF informer ...

I'm friends with Stuart McCall's agent and also a son of one of TTB's.

To the best of my knowledge talks are still ongoing with Wilson and his people but he certainly hasn't put pen to paper at this time.

Do I think he'll sign for Rangers ?

Yes.

As for Alfie Mawson, he might have worked under Warburton at Brentford, but heck, I don't know whether they saw each other that often, given his loan-spells ...

Danish journalist Soren Sorgenfri has today linked Rangers with Aarhuf GF’s under-21 Danish internationalist Jens Jonsson.

The defensive midfielder, capable of playing in both defence & midfield, although primarily a CB, is currently away on duty with his country in the Czech Republic for this summer’s European Championships, and has also been courted by Bristol City and Hearts.

With Rangers desperately trying to enhance the squad, a 14-time capped Danish U21 international defender with two goals to his name would not be the worst addition to the squad, although whether new manager Mark Warburton would be looking at him as a first-team starter or a quality reserve is less known.

Rangers are currently reportedly working on deals for John Eustace, Danny Wilson, Scott Allan and Rob Kiernan to name but four, and Jonsson could be another contract the Club will endeavour to close out before the end of the week.

Translation: The player's agent is trying to get more money for his client.
