For sure the squad has to be strengthened if that means getting in older than our babes so be it as it looks like some of them are faltering after too many games.

It is all right bringing youngsters through but not at the expense of results as recently.

 

Plus with the grounds heavy going at this time of year I fear some of our lightweight youngsters won't have the stamina....

THE Ibrox boss admitted he is looking to add some physicality and maturity to his side during the January transfer window.

 

RANGERS boss Mark Warburton has revealed he plans to add a bit of steel to his squad in the transfer window.

 

The Ibrox gaffer fears his squad is too soft and is keen to sign more physical players to toughen them up for the Championship run-in.

 

He also wants Gers to be ready to hit the ground running in the top flight if they win

promotion.

 

Ahead of the window opening next month, Warburton said: “The players we target should be able to help us win the Championship this season – but also to play in the Premiership next year.

 

“We have to look for something we don’t currently possess. So what do we lack? We lack a bit of seniority and maturity.

 

“But we also lack physicality. We’re never going to lump the ball in the box – we’ll never play like that.

 

“But we’re probably light of both maturity and physicality.

 

“We also lack a bit of cleverness around the final third of the pitch right now. So there are a few clues.”

 

Warburton wants to replicate the business Gers did back in the summer – by sealing permanent deals early and loans later.

 

He said: “We always like to do our business early. In June we brought in Andy Halliday, Jason Holt, Martyn Waghorn, James Tavernier, Rob Kiernan and Wes Foderingham.

 

“We got permanent ones done early, which allows you to wait a bit longer on the loans.

 

“That formula might be the same again.”
