New Club Statement - spot on

Don't know about fearing for life, but no matter how hard, cool and indifferent they acted, it must been pretty intimidating and stressful as you don't know if it's going to really kick off at a time when they were massively outnumbered by a load of rampaging nut jobs.

Luckily they were in an environment where people are routinely searched for weapons on entry and a large police presence along with the cameras. Although the latter wasn't so effective, it could still be a deterrent to really overstepping the line. People are more reckless if they think there is little chance of being caught.

I have been a victim of a few assault's on my person in Glasgow, trust me please. when a gang of thugs (never mind hundreds) are kicking into you for no reason, you do fear for your life.

I don't disagree but already have highlighted the differences here. I'm sure most people with live tv cameras focused on them, feel a lot more invulnerable, never mind if you're also a bit famous which adds to that bravado. Then add in the knowledge of a large police presence in the vicinity (without knowing they were ineffective) and it might calm you down quite a bit (even if it's a false sense of security). Then there's the low chance of deadly weapons and the fact that the chances of the fans being there to actually cause you a great deal harm is pretty low, and it would be easy to be confident of at least keeping your life. IMHO of course.

The Hivs fans were given licence to do what they did when there was no action taken against the Motherwell fans at the end of last season.

I predict it will happen again too.

If the hibs support aren't dealt with the next time this happens it will be carnage as the message now repeated will be it is fine to assault fans/employees of Rangers Football Club

I don't know anyone who is going to sit in their seat and take a beating or sit idly by while they watch the disabled being terrorised.

" THE Scottish FA are to set up an Independent Commission to investigate the Hampden riot in the aftermath of Saturday’s Scottish Cup final.

Hibernian lifted the silverware for the first time in 114 years as they beat Rangers 3-2 on a dramatic day at the National Stadium. But the celebrations were marred by a pitch invasion from Hibs fans as Gers players and staff were assaulted at the final whistle.

A series of battles then broke out amongst rival supporters before Police Scotland were able to bring the situation under control and Alan Stubbs’ side could be presented with their medals.

Rangers issued a hard-hitting statement on Sunday evening as they criticised the SFA, Hibernian, Police Scotland and First Minister Nicola Sturgeon for their reaction to the riots.

And chief executive Stewart Regan has now called for calm as Hampden chiefs look to probe the ugly scenes which tarnished a day to remember for Hibs.

He said: “The Scottish FA has today initiated the process of appointing an Independent Commission to investigate the circumstances of Saturday’s Scottish Cup Final disorder.

“A chairperson will be appointed in early course and the commission’s remit will be to review all operational matters relating to the event hosting of the final. It will be convened to analyse the processes and protocols undertaken in the staging of the match and I would encourage all relevant stakeholders to contribute to it.

“In the interests of transparency, the commission’s findings will also be published in full.

“In addition, the Scottish FA’s Compliance Officer has also started the process of investigating potential rule breaches from a football regulatory perspective.

"It should be pointed out that as the cup final is now subject to a criminal investigation by Police Scotland, we will share all information gleaned so far with them.

“I have also instructed the compilation of a comprehensive report from all our internal group functions at Hampden Park to establish a full picture of the events of the weekend. The contents of this report will be made available to the commission.

“I am keen that the Scottish FA is proactive in the investigations with the police authorities and the Independent Commission.

"In the meantime, I would urge all parties involved in the ongoing situation to demonstrate calmness, clarity of thought and responsibility as we proceed towards a satisfactory conclusion.”

No sign of that lot been denied access to European competition then. I wonder if we would have been allowed to compete and represent our country if 5-10k Bears had run on to the park and attacked Hibs players and staff?? Yeh... we all know the answer. I still maintain the club should make a stance and ban away fans from Ibrox. I also don't think we should accept away tickets. If we accept away tickets and something happens such as our fans are goaded, assaulted etc we know the media would spin it the big bad Rangers and we get hit. If however we don't accept away tickets, all clubs would have to sell to fans directly and the club could not be held responsible for any stich up that may occur.
