Barton *thinks* he's still a Rangers player

Recommended Posts

This is much ado about nothing. A 'frank discussion' has been had, and perhaps Barton has gone too far. I don't have a problem with it.

I don't like how it has been aired in public, but there's not much you can do about that nowadays with social media etc. Barton's radio interview was a response to the conjecture that has been built up by the press.

Will wait to hear from the Manager or the Club. If it's 'much ado about nothing' surely someone (not a player) should say so.

We need results-------results. to cure the whole malaise thats set in over the club ,we need results.

Nothing else will do.We could have a million posts about Joey Barton-----nothing will change till we start getting results.

They are the ultimate problem solver. If we dont or cant start picking up results things will get worse.Fact!!

Barton thinks he's the centre of attention, which it seems he is. This is not constructive for the club, the team or the manager. He's a dividing influence who in any other profession would have been disciplined in exactly the same way by the manager.

It has nothing to do weather we like the guy or not, I would suggest most of us don't even know him, so how can we dislike him?? What we can form is an opinion from the outside looking in, is his influence on, in and around the team.

My perception of that influence so far is that he is divisive, over rated, slow, egotistical, personality narcissistic and the team chemistry has evaporated since his arrival.

He kept saying on the Radio that he had nothing to apologise for and that it happens all the time. No Joey, players are not sent home and suspended for a week on a regular basis and it is most certainly not "something out of nothing" for it to happen at anyone's place of work, footballer or otherwise.

He should have waited until Monday IMO. It's not too long to reflect. I like the fact this bust up has happened tbh but it would have been better to talk on Monday and then let the manager give a view. I am sure Warburton would have protected Barton if required. Afraid this is more about joey and his self image than about Rangers. Interesting to see how we respond v Ross. I think this has a bit to run but if there is any open challenge or disrespect to the manager behind this then JB has to go.

Joey Barton insists he remains fully committed to Rangers despite being banished from the club's training ground.

The controversial midfielder found himself at the centre of yet another controversy when he was sent home from training on Tuesday, following what is understood to have been a changing-room row with team-mate Andy Halliday and boss Mark Warburton.

He was told not to report back to Gers' Auchenhowie base until Monday - ruling him out of Saturday's Ladbrokes Premiership clash with Ross County - as Warburton called for a period of calm.

But when news of the dispute broke on Thursday afternoon, it appeared the 34-year-old's short stint at Ibrox was already over.

However, just hours after apologising for the "harsh words" he aimed at his colleagues on Twitter, he told TalkSPORT he was going nowhere.

Barton said: "I'll sit down with Warbs on Monday - that was always the plan, once the lads win on Saturday because that is the most important thing. I'll be supporting my team-mates on Saturday, that is all that matters.

"I've got to re-evaluate stuff. Now that this has happened it changes the landscape slightly.

"It's disappointing but I'm as committed to Glasgow Rangers as the day I signed. There's nothing at all that has altered me from that task.

"All I want is for Rangers to win and for us to be the best we can possibly be, on the training ground and at a match on a Saturday."

Tuesday's incident occurred three days after Rangers' 5-1 mauling at the hands of Old Firm rivals Celtic.

The defeat at Parkhead leaves the Light Blues' title hopes in peril just five games into the season - with champions Celtic already four points ahead with a game in hand.

The clash with Halliday came as the players were asked to detail where they thought it had all gone wrong against Brendan Rodgers' Hoops.

But former Newcastle, QPR and Manchester City man Barton insists there is no on-going dispute with his colleague.

"They've told me to stay away but there are a lot of misconceptions out there at the moment," said the ex-England internationalist. "I've been asked to re-evaluate the way I'm thinking, but I don't think they're going to change - I want Rangers to win!

"We lost to our fiercest rivals at the weekend, we came in to train on Monday and Tuesday and we're picking the bones of how we get better, how we get Rangers back to the top of Scottish football.

"We're asked for an opinion and I'm someone who gives an opinion. Two passionate Rangers players have then shared opinions on how we get better as a team and what's going wrong for us. It's nothing more and nothing less than that.

"Obviously sometimes the way I communicate can be a bit blunt and a bit direct and it ruffles people's feathers, which I know I have to work at, but I don't apologise for trying to win. I care deeply about playing football.

"There is absolutely no issue with me and Andy. We sat down in the dressing room afterwards and spoke through what was said.

"It's disappointing that certain people are trying to insinuate that there is, because it's completely false.

"Andy is a mad, passionate Rangers fan, he's stood in the terraces, so I've got great respect for him. He cares deeply about making the club better, as I do."

But Barton appeared to criticise Warburton's decision to exclude him from the club when he said: "The way it's been handled is strange.

"When you look at my history and you're told to stay away from the club, it does look like something more has happened, and that's why I've decided to get on the radio and speak, because it's wrong."

Barton turned down the chance to stay with Burnley on their return to the Premier League to sign a two-year deal at Ibrox.

But his performances have so far lacked the sparkle which saw him named the Clarets' player of the year last term and Barton admitted he has not been up to scratch.

However, he insisted his team-mates also need to raise their game.

He said: "You''re only as good as your team mates, so if I am to improve they have to improve.

"I'm not admonishing my own responsibility in terms of my own performances. I'm not trying to make a scapegoat of anybody else or push blame on to anybody else.

"We're all in this together. We win together and we lose together.

"It should hurt not to win football matches but hopefully we can draw a line under this and get back to doing the most important thing, which is winning matches for Rangers."

Barton needs to be tied down, he's a loose cannon atm. He's done nothing of note for the club, to be making himself centre stage

Well, in my humble opinion he's done not much wrong at all. Once the media knew whom we signed up, they created a platform for scenarios just like these. All this hysteria about him, the odd tweet, his history and whatnot. All blasted out of all proportion by a media catering to very few, but in this day and age appearing to be this being the nexus of all things out there. Cue smug remarks about Brown* doing all the talking on the field rather the web and now owning him up. Brown, you know ...

brown-celtic.jpg

... and now, despite having next to no info, go on about it like there is no tomorrow, not least a 7-0 drubbing of their beloved Scum to dwell upon.

Well, people may not like Barton being frank on the web (mostly because we hardly ever had that these last 10odd years), as it is something new. But it also deflects some attention from the club and its troubles, if you will. It is not much different to what Valdimir Weiss posts, only that he ain't a Rangers employee. On the other hand, right now it deflects from the Yahoo-shame off the field and thus it is gladly taken up by the compliant media. Which in turn is just another confession of failure on their part.

They are going to have more drubbings to dwell on before this group is done. City and Barca are guaranteed to take the top 2 places and it may come down to GD to decide who takes top spot. City will be keen to thrash them every bit as soundly as Barca did. I also fully believe that the Germans can beat them home and away too.

They're going to have a goals against tally comfortably into double figures. Hell it's entirely plausible it will hit double figures after the very next match.

the opinion on BBC Scotland radio...Willie Miller and some ex 'gers player (don't know who) was that Barton had realised the Scottish game was too fast for him, his legs have gone, he's working his ticket, the other players won't accept him back in the dressing room and he was on his way. Seems like he'll miss Tuesday night's game anyway since he'll be at the launch of his new book in London
