RANGERS are set to go back in with a £650,000 offer for Hearts winger Jamie Walker.

A verbal offer of £500,000 was knocked back by Jambos chiefs, who have made it clear their player of the year will be going nowhere for less than £1million.

 

However, Walker wants to move to Ibrox and has made it clear he will leave Tynecastle under freedom of contract next summer if he is not sold before then.

 

The Jambos are also expecting interest in the 23-year-old from down south, but the player would prefer to join his close friend and former team-mate Jason Holt at Rangers.

 

Light Blues manager Pedro Caixinha will return with an improved offer and it is expected that a deal somewhere closer to Hearts’ valuation will eventually be reached.

 

It is likely to be a prolonged game of cat and mouse, like the pursuit of Norwich City midfielder Graham Dorrans.

 

The Canaries have now turned down two bids for the 30-year-old Scotland international from the Gers, who will need to get closer to Norwich’s £1.5m price tag to make the deal happen.

 

Rangers are also waiting to see if their work permit application for striker Alfredo Morelos has been successful.

 

The Colombian, who turns 21 on Wednesday, needs to cut through the red tape before his £1m move from HJK Helsinki can be finalised.

 

Caixinha wants to get as much of his summer recruitment drive completed as possible before next week’s Europa League signing deadline, although he is allowed one wildcard in the early rounds.

 

Caixinha is also waiting for the paperwork to allow Mexican pair Carlos Pena and Eduardo Herrera to move to Ibrox.

 

Herrara’s former Pumas boss Francisco Palencia is in no doubt the 28-year-old striker will be a big success at Ibrox.

 

“Eduardo has always been very professional,” said Palencia.*“He really fights for his team and has an eye for a goal. I think he will do well in Scotland with the qualities he has.”

 

Meanwhile, Rangers have extended their shirt sponsorship with 32Red for another two seasons.

 

The online casino company has endorsed the kits for the last three years.

well he's in the same position as McKay.......pre contract January...club gets hee haw and player gets good signing on fee

 

I don't think that's right Colin. So long as the present employer have offered terms on at least the same terms as their current deal then the club are entitled to a training fee, dependent on players age.

But Garner WAS a panic buy. How else do you explain signing a 28 yr old striker late in the transfer window who is neither prolific nor actually fits the formation ?

 

Every man and his dog from down south was saying he couldn't play the lone striker role and in MW's 4-3-3 that is exactly what he would be !

Training compensation shall be paid to a player’s training club(s): (1) when a player signs his first contract as a professional, and (2) each time a professional is transferred until the end of the season of his 23rd birthday.

The Colombian lad Morelos...will score a barrow load of goals here for us I reckon (hope).

 

It appears the general opinion is that the Finnish league is of a much lower standard and that he'll struggle to score in Scotland.

 

Looking at UEFA's coefficient rankings Finland are just 13 places behind Scotland, basically ranked the same as in that their Champions go into Q2 of the CL and have 3 clubs entering Q1 of the EL. Just like Scotland they don't qualify for World Cups or European Championships either.

 

Morelos was too good for Finnish football, he scored for fun there, an astonishing scoring record over the past two seasons, he also managed 'single handedly' to progress his club to Q3 last season scoring 4 goals (all in the away ties). Scottish sides reaching Q2 in the EL is looked upon as some kind of an achievement, Q1 elimination for Scotland's clubs is regarded as the norm nowadays.

 

I haven't watched Finland's football sides in action, but I suspect it'd be like watching Motherwell v Ross County or Dundee v Partick Th. Look at our Premiership play-off games between Hamilton and Dundee Utd...we've had better times during a dentist appointment...awful stuff! Excruciating viewing! A joke in the name of football!
