Gers opened talks in the last 24 hours and started negotiations at £500,000 for the Scotland man, who has a year left on his Pittodrie contract.

So, selling their best winger to the Yahoos was okay then? Gave them the cash required to stay in business, transfer business that is, and now they don't need any and can go on with McLean (no matter what we think of him) being probably unhappy? Or can put their feet in the ground and try to squeeze unreasonably sums of money out of us? Never seen that before ... nope.

I wouldn't mind if we stay clear of McLean for half a season now and let them go with the money they have now, so they could add the odd player with actually a fee involvd, rather than working on loans and freebies again, as they did for the last half-decade.

On a sidenote, this Kiernan, Hodson, Tavernier stuff ... we need to remember that the transfer window is open for about two full months still, Euro deadlines or not. We have been tornado'ed by the flurry of activity so far, and the media is keeping this brewing with the Dorrans, McLean, and other stuff, but the pace will probably relax considerably and I would expect to see the odd chap moving on on the last day of the window.

 

Given that we have Mark Allen now, we might see in another loanee from the Citizens, or even that mooted "more known than Alves" special signing (the ITKs spoke of much earlier in June).

I know Allen looked after the U 20s but if he could give Sanga and Clichy a call - a year each from them wouldnt be bad.

PEDRO CAIXINHA hopes to be given the go-ahead to sign Graham Dorrans tomorrow.

Rangers have made multiple bids for the Scotland cap but so far have not hit Norwich City’s asking price.

 

A bid of just over £1.3million with future add-ons is currently on the table and will be discussed by the Canaries board today.

 

Caixinha, of course, hopes it will be enough to land the 30-year-old attacking midfielder as Dorrans is keen to return to Scotland and is also willing to take a wage cut to make that happen.

 

Rangers are also keen on signing winger Jamie Walker, 24, from Hearts but so far have also failed to hit the Jam Tarts’ £1m valuation.

 

The Ibrox side kick off their season this week when Luxembourg side Progrès Niederkorn travel to Glasgow for their first qualifying round opener on Thursday.

 

Caixinha could give competitive bows to the likes of Ryan Jack, Fabio Cardoso, Eduardo Herrera, Carlos Pena, Alfredo Morelos, Dalcio and Daniel Candeias – all summer arrivals at Ibrox.

RANGERS die-hard Andy Halliday has been shunted towards the Ibrox exit door after being told he can go out on loan.

 

SunSport can reveal midfielder Halliday*is the latest player to be informed by new manager Pedro Caixinha that he is surplus to requirements at the club.

 

And we understand that Halliday, 25, is expected to be ordered to train with the club’s Under-20s from now on.

 

The lifelong Gers fan has been desperate to impress Caixinha in pre-season training and convince him that he can still command a place in his line-up.

 

But the Portuguese boss has now decided that former Livingston and Bradford City ace Halliday will no longer be part of his plans and he would be better moving on.

 

Several clubs abroad have already been alerted to the former Middlesbrough star’s situation and are interested in snapping him up.

 

But it is the latest hardline decision made by Caixinha, who is desperate to move out players he doesn’t want.

 

Defender Rob Kiernan and wide men Harry Forrester and Michael O’Halloran have all been ordered in for early- morning training regimes with their Rangers careers virtually over.

Winger Barrie McKay’s future at the club is also uncertain as he continues to stall over new contract talks.

 

Since returning from the summer break Halliday has been fully involved with Caixinha’s first-team squad.But the club’s Under-20s report back today meaning he is likely to be told to train with them until he manages to find a new club.

 

Former Gers boss Mark Warburton, meanwhile, is planning to step up his interest in full back James Tavernier by making a bid to sign him for new club Nottingham Forest.

Warbs is eager to raid his old club for the defender, who he brought to Ibrox.

 

Ibrox chiefs are believed to value the 25-year-old at around £1.25million and Forest are now weighing up an approach.Preston North End are also keeping tabs on the former Wigan and Newcastle player.

 

But new Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is ready to make funds available to Warburton as they look to strengthen ahead of the new season.

 

Warburton has already made one signing from Scotland this summer, landing striker Jason Cummings from Hibs, and now he plans to return again for Tavernier.
