The Pre-Summer-2017 transfer rumours and hearsay all inclusive Thread

I'm not sure why any of this makes you believe that we are going to spend over £3 million on one player.
yeah loads said the same last year about spending over £1m on one player then we go spend £1.5 rising to £1.8m on one player. So there is no reason based on our previous business to think we would not spend £3m on one player. The board have said it is possible so why not?

I've no doubt it is possible. I would just be surprised if we spend that much on one player this season.

The reason that it would surprise me is that we need many players. Lets assume, for the sake of argument, that the club has £3 million to spend on trasfer fees. I wouldn't be surprised if the club spread that across three players. To spend all of that on transfer fees for one player is a risky strategy. If the player is a dud, doesn't settle or is problematic then all of that money is gone.

I may be wrong. Last year I thought the idea of us signing Niko Kranjčar was unrealistic.

Agree with all that, if its say more than 50% of the budget that'a huge risk. Was going to write that i doubt the club would risk so much of the budget on one player, so maybe the budget is way higher than we think, but its just dawned on me we risked the majority of our budget last season on one player, so who knows.

Think its fair to say the prospect of him signing has moved past speculation DB when the player is quoted in other reports as admitting hes coming

I think it's greatly encouraging to see some of the players we're being linked with now.

They all seem to be much better quality than some of the league1 & league2 dross and the has-beens MW brought in last summer.

Maybe PC thinks, as I do myself, that we have enough squad players with the young players pushing through so we need 3-4 quality players to enhance the chance of challenging for the title?, however I agree with your point about players not settling/problematic then it would be money squandered!, again though these players that we are being linked with PC knows what they can do so we can only trust his signings and wait and see, like any other managers signings!, the old cliché of every signing is a gamble!.

It's all speculation at this time.
