Ongoing new manager discussion and speculation

Communism is very totalitarian. Anyway, censorship is a silly idea, however tempting it might seem in this age of hand-holding and spoon-feeding.

No. It's Stalininism which is totalitarian; Bolshevik democracy was real democracy. Where we can elect a parliament every 5 years, under Lenin officials were subject to regular recall by their electors.

Bolshevik meant majority but then again pravda meant truth.

Well, speaking from 20 years of experience, communism is no more totalitarian than capitalism ... in its various forms. At times people like to compare apples and oranges, when it is more appropriat to check out all apples first. One can quickly throw North Korea, the earlier and latter stages of the Soviet Union or China into the fray. But then again, Saudi-Arabia, Iran, South Korea, various regimes in Southern America and even Nazi Germany would sit on the other side of that particular totalitarian as well as censorship fence. Just saying.

BTW, it is almost baffling how the "West" denomiantes countries as "communist" when there are hardly any around. Neither the Soviet Union nor any other "communist" country really achieved "communism" as per Marx, Engels and Lenin. Even if some were or are led by "communist parties", they are at best very "developed" socialist countries. I would hazard a guess that the Western terminology is being used to differentiate their own Socialist / Social-Democrats parties from the "naughty ones" behind the Iron Curtain. Well, a bit off topic that.

Ah Ye Olde "but it's not true Communism/Socialism*" mantra. :laugh2:

Now I notice der Berliner's excellent original contribution has been edited out. I know it was hugely off-topic but I can't help wondering if totalitarianism has spread to the admin. of gersnet! Meanwhile, back on topic, looks like we are stuck with McLeish - a manager who is now past his EPL sell-by and won't cost much. Never did I think that our club would become so unattractive a prospect to any manager.
