Qualifying for the CL would do a world of good to our finances ... and the Yahoos are three or four player-departures away from being not that much better than us. One has to wait and see whether any new  player in their team can fit in as much as Dembele (last season), Sinclair, and Griffith.

Fair enough point.  However, if they do actually get a ridiculous sum of money for Dembele then the chances are that they can spend enough to virtually guarantee better players than we can.  If they get 18 million for Dembele (no laughing at the back) then they can buy SIX players at 3 million - that is more than half a team for more than our most expensive player over the last 6 years..... and without really touching their own finances. 

 

The thing is... we talk about how they may sell players and there is no guarantee that their replacements will be as effective... but riddle me this.... Which of the two teams, Rangers or Celtic, have had more success in player recruitment over the last 5 years ?  They can withstand failures better than we can - yet our most expensive purchase will go down as a failure given he is already out on loan.

 

Of course they can screw it up - but recent history suggests that we have been screwing it  up far more than they have.  Do we have that much faith that our recruitment policy will be more effective than theirs ???

I don't think that Pena got much of an opportunity to display real application, real committment, real improvemnt, or real quality.

The fact that he scored 5 in 8 should be a clue to his actual ability, and to what he might offer to the team.

 

But, you know, he was a fancy Dan fanny merchant foreigner, so tell him to sling his hook, and take his poncho and sombrero with him. 

The way forward, as it is known.

IMO he was simply a lazy bast**d who couldn't (be bothered to) reach a decent level of fitness or if he did, was world class at hiding it during games.

 

Some players are so good they can get away with it, Carlos wasn't.

 

It was nothing to do with where he came from.

 

A poor professional...... A label that he arrived with from his former club.

You really don't like him, do you? 

 

I should like to have seen the Club get more out of him, but I think that would have meant seeing more of him.

I agree he had problems, personally, psychologically, etc., but he wasn't a "lazy bast**d".
