Strange one considering we still need cover at full back in emergency.

Not really, when you consider that Halliday has been preferred at LB, rather than play Hodson.

Get him out on loan, and give him the chance to show the manager he's worth keeping.

RB: Tav / Flanagan

LB: Barisic / Flanagan / Wallace

I wonder if SG is considering using Wallace given it might be difficult to shift him.

He's a Gerrard type of defender, big and physical.

edit

Forgot Halliday !!

No need for further FB cover.

Someone somewhere pointed out Halliday had worked under McAllister before so he's probably preferred for his versatility

Halliday could end up with a lot more starts this season than anyone could have envisaged.

Good point. He's not a great player, but his versatility could be crucial: in him we have a back-up for 2-3 positions.

Rangers 'keen' on Ross McCormack

Aston Villa have told Ross McCormack to find a loan move out of Villa Park before the end of the transfer window - and Rangers are reportedly keen on taking the striker back to Ibrox.

The 32-year-old spent last season out on loan at Melbourne City after falling out of favour with manager Steve Bruce.

Now Rangers have been alerted to his situation, according to teamtalk, and the situation could further suit the Ibrox club with the report stating that Villa are willing to cover almost all of his £40,000-a-week wage.

McCormack has earned himself a reputation as a goalgrabber in the second tier of English football and has wracked-up nearly £25m in transfer fees between Villa, Fulham, Leeds and Cardiff.

Arrrrgggggghhhh!!!!!
