This is a measuring stick for Arsenal's progression this season but I think Liverpool will win. The Arsenal defence and midfield just isnt strong enough and at the full back positions with Bellerin, Monreal and Kolasanic all doubtful is worrying. I think 1 or 2 of them will make it purely for this match. But midfield is key and with Arsenal playing a likely trio of Torrieira, Xhaka/Ramsay and Ozil the gap between Ozil and the other 2 is where Liverpool will hurt Arsenal.

Mustafi is another who gifts players chances easily and Liverpools front 3 will punish them.

2 against 'big teams' = 2 defeats

7 against 'diddy teams' = 7 wins

'The Aberdeen of England'

They have Liverpool at home on the 3rd of November, when we'll get a better idea of their progress.

Arsenal 1-1 Liverpool

I thought Arsenal were the better side, but Liverpool had the better chances.

Unspectacular progress it may be, but it is progress, IMO. They usually get slaughtered against the 'big teams', so this was an improvement; they were solid.

Unspectacular progress against the Champions League finalists and a team widely regarded as being the main challengers to City this season, and they were, slightly, the better team too.

This from a team who, under Wenger, would have meekly handed Liverpool 3 points yesterday.

:D

A home draw against Liverpool is progress but it ain't spectacular. Had they won, then it would have been more noteworthy.

It does help give them belief and a base to further build upon.

What Arsenal might be able to compete for again is CL qualification which is where they always got to under Wenger bar the last couple of years.

There isn't much doubt that the Arsenal board allowed Wenger a year or two too many and that tardiness has cost them somewhat.
