Got it non-stop but only after becoming manager.

I think he got it worse after becoming manager.

He was never the greatest passer of the ball, and his misplaced attempts pulled imprecations down upon his head.

No chance that gets reduced to a yellow.  Goldson wasn’t covering IMO.  He wasn’t getting there.  Clear foul.  Goal scoring opportunity as he was 1-on-1 with the keeper.

If comparing against last week then you would say McCrorie should be treated the same as Dom Ball... the only drawback is that Dom Ball should have been sent off too.

Inconsistency of officiating is frustrating - but McCrorie deserved to go IMO.

The key difference between Ball and McCrorie is where the incident took place.  When the clear goal scoring opportunity is prevented outside the box, the instruction to referees is to show a red card.  If it happens inside the box, the instruction is to give the penalty and a yellow.  It's to prevent a double punishment for a single incident.  Hopefully that clarifies the difference and the reasons for the decisions.

Our players didn't seem to know about that rule last week when they were claiming that Ball should be sent off.  That's was never going to happen, and quite rightly in my opinion.

Or simply focus on the collective effort.  Playing with 10 men for over an hour and it was still as comfortable an afternoon’s work as we have seen for a long time !

I agree Craig we shouldn’t appeal this one as there will be a time to go full throttle on this and that incident isn’t one if them. In terms if the incident I don’t think goldson needed to cover instantly as the boy had taken a heavy touch and would have had to run well wide.

The double/triple punishment rule only applies if the player attempts to play the ball apparently, therefore wouldn't apply in Ball's case. However given Coulibaly was offside and interfered I'd be reluctant to complain too much.

I thought McCrorie's was probably a red, but consistency is the issue as I'm sure we've seen yellows given to our opponents in similar circumstances.

Would there perhaps be some merit in asking for an explanation of the different penalties awarded in both instances? If the decision is that Ross deserved his red (and I think he did) then is there not an argument of a retrospective red for Ball?  If we consider that both deserved the same penalty (the comments about double penalty not withstanding) asking for the two to be reviewed side by side should result in some kind of movement somewhere and continue the highlighting of instances where we're treated differently?

Rangers got a penalty against Aberdeen.  St Mirren got a free kick against us.  McCrorie's was a red and Ball should've got a yellow but didn't.

Ball should have got a red as it was a deliberate foul denying a goal scoring opportunity. It's only when it's accidental that a yellow would be given.

IFAB laws of the game.

“DENYING A GOAL OR AN OBVIOUS GOAL-SCORING OPPORTUNITY

Where a player denies the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by a deliberate handball offence the player is sent off wherever the offence occurs.

Where a player commits an offence against an opponent within their own penalty area which denies an opponent an obvious goal-scoring opportunity and the referee awards a penalty kick, the offending player is cautioned if the offence was an attempt to play the ball; in all other circumstances (e.g. holding, pulling, pushing, no possibility to play the ball etc.) the offending player must be sent off.

A player, sent off player, substitute or substituted player who enters the field of play without the required referee's permission and interferes with play or an opponent and denies the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity is guilty of a sending-off offence

The following must be considered:

  • distance between the offence and the goal
  • general direction of the play
  • likelihood of keeping or gaining control of the ball
  • location and number of defenders”

interestingly the aspects which apply to yesterdays incidents are the bullet points at the end. A hasty red looking at the actual laws of the game. The biggest question mark are the first and third bullet points. If you assume he was going wide then the 4th comes into play.

Id put it in the category of bad decision rather than the cheating we have become accustomed to but when you hear idiots like Thomson and Stewart saying red ‘all day long’ you just know they haven’t taken 2 minutes to read the basics and have taken less that 2 seconds to formulate their opinion which is normally ‘Rangers Bad’.
