One positive over the Morelos booking. It frees him up for the final.:)

I like that kind of confidence. Since we pretty much dominated the sheep in their own sheep pen with just 10 men i'm confident we can take them in a semi final with a full 11. Judging from reports they were thrashed 0-0 by hubz last night and don't deserve to be in the semi at all.

It wasn't just that. He made a dismissive gesture towards the ref then refused to go over to him when summoned for a talking to. Halliday had to drag him over. He's a real discipline problem that appears to be getting worse not better.

Absolute crap.

Halliday did the exact same later in the game so did the Ayr CB. No bookings

I lost the stream during the booking. I'm giving what's being reported by media sources. So are you saying that he didn't make any gesture to the ref and didn't refuse to go over to be talked to?

If by gesture you mean fling his arm in the air yes he did. Same as halliday did and their CB. Unfortunately their is one rule for one and another for others

Madden couldn’t wait to book him. There was a boot left in on him and madden just told him to get up or he was booked. Then he booked him anyway for mouthing off which he knew he would do. Another set up as madden knew he was a hot head.

First of all the ref isn't there to administer his form of discipline. He is there to referee the ball being fouled in a game for all players on the field. That means that he has to, as any adult is supposed to, respect all players on the field. There is absolutely nothing wrong with disagreeing with the ref at any stage in the game.

Dissent is such an offence that leaves a multitude of open interpretations as other posters have commented. To the letter of the law questioning the word of the ref in any situation is a caution. That includes pleading for a foul or a penalty. However we repeatedly see teams surrounding the ref during such decisions and no one is booked for dissent if the ref doesn't give a pen. Its a joke of a rule and should be scrapped. Another thing that does my head right in is seeing a ref run 30 yards away pointing at a grown man and ordering him to heel.

It  was the fault of Morelos, period.

1. Goes into the game knowing a booking puts him out of semi-final (would have been made clear to him)

2. Has already had the experience of letting the team down at a crucial point of a crucial match when ball was dead via dissent, does he take on board lessons ?...In the games since then it is obvious he hasn't.

3. Ayr Utd: Ball is dead, what does he do...he openly shows dissent to the ref with a physical gesture and gives the referee an easy out and Rangers without a decent centre-forward option for the semi-final.

Morelos can be a very good player but he can't be trusted and his stupidity could have cost us a EL group stage place, probably did cost us a level of energy going into the Celtic match and now will very much undermine our efforts to get the first trophy of the season.

----------

Verbally questioning decisions is quite another thing and when a group of players 'go after' the ref., they do so together knowing it more difficult for the ref to take action against an individual.

Pete

This suspension doesn't free Morelos up for the final as all bookings are now wiped from the slate going into the semi-finals.

Only suspensions carry forward.

I just saw a clip and he gives it the dismissive hand gesture that a ref can take as dissent.

He doesn't learn.

It was nothing at all.

You see players telling the Ref's to "F*ck off!" all the time. Even Halliday had an angry go at the Ref in the Second half, with no booking.

They're just looking to book him for anything.

But it wasn't just verbal, it was the dismissive arm gesture that made the difference.

Whether in European competition or domestic, we've seen what happens.

It was Stupid with a capital S.

A booking within play happens, suspensions happen but the predictable nature of the Morelos booking and what the suspension means,... sticks in the craw.
