The Winter 2018/19 - Transfer Window Rumours and Deals - Thread

Swap coulibally a loanee for Shinnie and the midfield and midfield to attack transition would be improved with the bonus of shinnie being our own player. Throw Davis in for McRorie and have Jack sitting deep and the midfield would be transformed with a decent 3 in a 4-3-3 line up. Don’t let Morelos go until summer and hope our injuries clear up and we could kick on in the second half of the season. I know everyone is desperate to beat the Tims but I’d be happy to keep within 3 points, make a couple of decent signings and get everyone fit and going again. As they have EL distraction they will drop points. They are no great shakes.

Wonder if SG has a wee Spanish ‘holiday’ planned for them once they’ve had a week off. Hope so!

Graham Shinnie is nowhere near the calibre of player we need if we’re to seriously challenge for the title.

He is an SPL journeyman. Nothing more.

Would agree but we don’t have much money and he would be an improvement.

Shinnie is easily good enough for our squad, especially for free. He’d be a great rotation player to cover left back and centre mid.

Both american boys sound like they’d be good signings too.

None of the players we’re linked to are exciting though. If we sign a midfielder he needs to be a goal scorer because we’re currently expecting players with no track record of scoring goals to chip in and it’s no wonder they aren’t doing so.

A very detailed recent article on Andrew Gutman who we’ve apparently offered a deal to. In short, an attack minded left back who is rated as 2nd best in college football and trains with Chicago Fire and has the option to sign for them. I like the sound of him but there’s no question Rangers is a big step up from the level he’s played at.

While we should not load our squad with too many "average" players (some of whom may well "step-up"), we do need players able to cope with and win games in the Premiership in Scotland. At the moment we lack both numbers and a cutting edge (in various ways). Given that most of these players will be freebies and not command serious wages, we would be fine.

Re Gutman ... I would assume the Old Firm game might be Wallace's last Hurray, Flanagan is an able footballer but no left-back, and Halliday will give his all, but is no left-back either. How long has Barisic been out injured thus far (rhethorical question). Gutman would need time to adjust too as well. So our LB cover is not exactly up to scratch.
