Lot's of speculation about which players will stay or go. I expect few will follow Gerrard, who is now pulling his tenners from a far fatter wallet, but I do think a guy like GvB is bound want to bring in a few key players he knows he can trust ... and that means some of the current crop will inevitably have to move on elsewhere.

That's not how it should work with a DoF model.

Our players should be fixed, based on profile and any new manager should be picked to work with them. So the manager position should be able to slot in and out, so there's no need for any 'rebuilds' every time a manager leaves.

That would be an excellent plan if players didn't have emotions, loyalties and be prone to fits of pique in the face of change. Which is what always faces a new manager and this will be no different. The DoF and the incoming manager can choose to accept any dip in morale as merely part of the "model" but I think we all know what will happen back in the real world.

I don't think that this is true.

The latest accounts show we need to trim our squad a bit and also that selling a player or two can massively transform our annual position, so if he was to offer reasonable money it could be a good move for all concerned.

How does that square with the financial necessity of winning the league this year of all years?

Honestly, I'd be absolutely delighted if he's appointed. The right mix of knowledge of our club and the Scottish game + global pull, I think he would be an exceptional appointment actually.

What makes you think he knows much about the Scotch game?

He got out 20 years ago.

With the DoF thing, I think it will depend on the person coming in being able to get the best out of players by using a similar system.

At work, the thought of a new boss is usually a bit daunting but sometimes they're better than the old one.  Time will tell on that front but I'd assume any new manager will be known for playing a similar way to the 433 system going on throughout the club (which makes someone like GvB likely but someone like Warnock far less likely).  That makes players less likely to leave because they don't like the style of play.
