Probably the wait-and-see tactic, since St. Mirren had a couple of good games, including beating the Scum.

I agree with the frustration at two holding midfielders, but it's not as bad as it appears, because Jack can play as an #8, so it could be a 1-2 set-up in midfield.  

 

However, I would prefer a more attacking #8, like Tillman.

You know what? 

 

I like the two attacking wingers; I like the position the #8s are taking up, and their runs in behind; and I'm excited by Tavernier's position, which is inside, like Alexander-Arnold. 

 

What's letting us down is the combination-play. 

 

As soon as we do the work and ping the ball into the wingers or #8s (Tavernier has done so a few times, along with Lundstram and Barisic), the ball goes backwards. 

 

We need to work on the next pass, once it gets into the wingers or #8s.
