MB has mentioned in dispatches that he would like to replace Kent with a similar type of player. Call me crazy, but based on what we saw on Saturday from wee Rabi, it seems like we already have a player with that potential on the books. Has Matondo shown anything in his time at Rangers to suggest that he could fit this role? Not at all but I feel we've never seen any of his true ability. Maybe it's just a crisis of confidence or lack of consistent selection? It seems to be that MB believes he can take players whose careers have somewhat stalled and turn them around (Cantwell, Lammas, Sima, Dessers). Could he not try this with wee Rabi? He is our player after all and cost us money.

Kent was de facto a winger being pushed into a role where he had to score as many goals as a striker. Same on the other side. Else, the 4-3-3 would not have worked against Scottish sides ... and it generally did not. With Cantwell, Lammers, Danilo, Dessers, Sima, and Roofe, we now seem to have attackers who are able to hit the target regularly, with the new guys an upgrade on all we had. Matondo is indeed essentially a straight replacement for Kent as some sort of winger, who is not expected to score with every other strike at target. We wouldn't have assumed that from e.g. Neil McCann either. For the time being, we might be well advised to sit back and watch these guys gel into a team, maybe into "sets of players", which can be used according to the task at hand.

A week or so of the window left and we are still stuck with a number of bodies we could do with moving. 

 

Kamara is probably the biggest. He needs to go. Rangers Review this morning has said that Hagi has requested a move (did so last week supposedly). So he needs to go if he doesnt want to be here.

 

Still not convinced by Davies. Yilmaz or Matondo. Would happily see them move.

 

Lundstram and Barisic in the last year of their deals so would be good to get some money in for them if we can source replacements in time. If not we can let them go at the end of the season.

 

In terms of ins if I could pick one position it would be a first choice pick partner for Goldson. Still not convinced by Soutter (mistakes and fitness wise), Balogun is cover only.
