  1. Past hour
  2. I wonder how many of the present board of directors will be wanting to keep their place in the new boardroom you know to add their expertise on all things Scottish football. 😆
  3. Eh? That means a value of over $140B!!
  4. You can play 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 all day long, if you have the players who can perform in this system. We never had these players since the time it was introduced, shoehorned centre-forwards into roles not theirs, and played it no matter of the opposition. Every now and then, a player aside from the (as in: one) centre-forward weighed in with a hatful of goals, Sima, Kent, Tillman, Tavernier, Cerny etc. but it was not enough. We did not adapt to these realities and suffered the consequences. They not only had the money, but also got enough solid players to fulfil the job that was required. Maybe not in Europe, but surely in Scotland. As was said elsewhere, dislike them or him as you want, Ange came in, saw what was needed, got e.g. these Japanese in, and they ran away with the silverware. And the reaction of us (well most) was not debating the system which is utterly unsuitable for the Scottish game, but going after this or that striker, who did not convert 75+ % of the chances he got. If he would, he would not play for Rangers in this day and age. What we needed and need for "modern" football is a striker who scores 20+ per season, and three+ players behind him who come up with 10+ each too. In the league! But as of May 6th ... Dessers (52 games) 25 goals + 12 assists Cerny (49) 17 + 8 Igamane (43) 14 + 5 ... and Danilo, Diomande and Lawrence with 6 goals each. Like in the days of Morelos, one striker was asked to carry the team, and if he didn't come up with all (as in: ALL) the goods, we were screwed. This needs to be addressed. And not by signing a potential 30+ goals striker, but by getting attackers who score ... and play them all in a system suitable to break Scottish brick walls.

Actually looking at that list of goalscorers, notice how many of them lot are on it? This is where our problems really are. Not enough players getting on the score sheet from other areas. In the "top 20" performing goalscorers in Scotland, they've got 8 players on the table. By comparison we have three.

‘Keepers like Ritchie, Cruickshank, Niven (at Partick) McCloy (at Motherwell) Sorenson (at Morton) ? OK, Niven was at the end of his career and Ritchie was nearing it and McCloy and Sorenson were at the beginning of theirs and the all the rest were average. Barging was nearing the end of its career too. Tommy White at the Hearts was the last of the bargers and he didn’t get away with it often. McBride was a Negri style finisher with added endurance. A real injury curtailed his career.
  8. 75,000 record attendance at the old Valley. Games against Millwall could be interesting.

Thinking back to serial missers like Maxie Murray and McCoist you always felt it was ok because they would get the next one. I don’t have that confidence with CD. His stats suggest I should have. It’s a perception thing.
  10. I think they are going to allow fans to sup alcohol at the Goodison game pity fans can't behave of they could all enjoy a drink during the match
  11. Villa 2-0 ‘Spurs Chelsea 2-2 United Everton 2-1 Southampton Hammers 2-0 Forest Brentford 3-1 Fulham Leicester 2-1 Ipswich Arsenal 2-0 Newcastle Brighton 1-3 Liverpool Effy Cup Last Gasp: Palace 2-1 City unfortunately and in 90 minutes.

If a club makes a right good offer then sell him same goes for the rest of our players if silly money is offered grab it there's a player I think from Bournemouth haven't heard of him Madrid are supposed to be ready to pay 50 million
  13. He's a pure goalscorer. His all-round game is very limited. That's not necessarily a bad thing - I think the negatives are emphasised when the rest of the team don't chip in with goals. I wouldn't be opposed to keeping him around, but, for me, every player is up for sale.
  14. Marco Rose and Russell Martin are the only names mentioned that appeal to me.
  15. Dessers would be good to keep as a second striker, but his value now is at its maximum and financially we may be better selling.
  16. Davide Ancelotti was an interesting candidate but I was unconvinced he was the right person for a job that difficult doesn't begin to describe. Problem is I've still no idea who should get it as I'm not enthused by anyone linked. Just appoint Gerrard and Naismith and be done with it...

He also terrorized both Man Utd's defence and Athletics getting a few goals so that's also a factor to consider when we are playing in European games, I’d keep him for at least a few more seasons and see who we bring in who could work alongside him, Dannilo on the other hand I would Mag to Grid ( get rid) 110%.
  18. I'd actually be okay with us going into next season with CD, HA and one other striker, preferably someone quick. CD isn't perfect, and he absolutely does my nut in at times, but I'd keep him.
  19. Move to Brazil with the old man or be his own man in Glasgow? One can't really blame him for taking the easier option. The sightseeing in Rio is considerably more pleasant than Glasgow, I'd have thought.
  20. If Igamane could look up, find a teammate more often and cut out some of the dribbling, he'd be a better central forward (actually playing him there might help cut out the necessity for the hopes above).
  21. End the reign of quantity. Time for quality.
  22. Looks like Ancelotti may be out the running with more reports coming out of Spain this morning:

There was an Everton player scored 60 goals in a league season back in the day, Dixie Dean. I'd say football is more demanding and physically more difficult these days tbh.
  24. Don't think there's anything new that can be said about the lad's contribution and his goals won't be easy to replace but if we can get a suitable bid for his services, I think I'd move him on.

That's just a fallacy goalkeepers were every bit as good maybe better because most teams had a good man between the posts

Dessers is nearing 30 in all competitions which is good numbers but 25 should be the approx league goals target for a No.9 in our league. He has got better as the season has gone on, Id say he is first pick now when that wouldnt have been the case last Autumn. The sitters have dried up and he certainly doesnt look out of place in Europe although he can go 45 minutes unnoticed - he can then simply pop up with a goal at any time.
  27. And goalies were pretty poor in those days don't forget. Also they could just barge them into the net.
