  1. I guess this is the funds that were required to see us through until the end of the season? Thankfully we have investors willing to bridge these gaps, but what happens when they can no longer dip into their pockets? My first post here on GersNet so hello to everyone.

  2. Well, you're right Gonzo, but perhaps those of us guilty of sectarianism could also use this issue to reflect on and improve our own behaviour. I'm comfortable this forum does a fairly decent job of ensuring it is bigotry free but if there are opportunities to improve (not just navel gaze) then that's how we treat it.

  3. It's no coincidence that this fine season has been delivered via such a strong defence. Every one of our accepted first choice back five (McGregor, Tav, Goldson, Helander and Barisic) have had excellent seasons and provided the platform for those in front of them to do their stuff. McGregor is a key part of that whilst his experience and mentality are second to none in Scottish football which makes his re-signing a real positive going into an important summer transfer wise for this squad.

  4. That must've been around the time Jack McConnell decided to "tackle" sectarianism in Scotland & so called charities like Nil By Mouth started to profit?

  5. Yeah, around £21.5m in the last 6 months. Around half of this is converting the director & shareholder loans that were in place at the end of last season, with the balance being new funding. It was expected that we would need £8.8m of funding by the end of the season, so it's largely in line with expectations. We will also need £14.4m of funding for next season (including a loan repayment to Dave King of around £5.5m), and I'd guess that the plan is for that to be funded largely through player sales and hopefully CL qualification. As for this as a strategy, it got us #55, so it's OK in my books! There isn't really much of an alternative at this point, as I'd presume that our third party financing options will be limited. The medium term business model of selling players will need to kick in now though as the well of shareholder funding must be lose to dry.

  6. I wouldn’t say either is in the same class as Morelos unfortunately.

  7. Itten and Roofe are the Morelos replacements.

  8. Fantastic news. The guy is in the form of his life and I hope it continues even beyond 2022.

  9. I think Doncaster and Lawwell's idea of what constitutes sectarianism may differ from some of ours and they have influence in the corridors of football power. Then you get racist microagressions and unconscious bias. The issue is more nuanced that just what is and what isn't. "Let he who is without sin..."

  10. We made a loss of over £10m last season and will do the same this season. Yes, we can sell players and not spend to replace them to fund the loss, but there's no guarantee that we won't get knocked out early in Europe. There's a difference between breaking even or making a profit in one season and claiming that we're self-sufficient. We're also heavily reliant on Gerrard's fantastic team to identify and improve players. If he was to leave at the end of the season, for example, we'd struggle to replace the backroom team with the same quality, and therefore our ability to raise cash from player sales will suffer as well. King's claims of self-sufficiency should be put alongside his claims that we wouldn't be issuing more shares at 20p.

  11. A reduction in sectarianism would be a good thing obviously, but let's not equate calling someone an orange/h*n/f*nian/t@ig bastard to what Kamara had to put up with. It's not even in the same ball park (notwithstanding UEFA's warped standards).

  12. You’re right of course. And wrong. If you’re saying we should continue to run a deficit in the hope of winning the league ... but then we don’t ... and then don’t qualify for the group stages ... then we will already have incurred another massive deficit and will probably be forced to sell at a time when we may very well also have to contemplate Gerrard’s replacement. We need to focus on continuing the rebuilding job, which is still a long way from complete. We might get lucky and everything might fall perfectly for us but I’ve see all the gambling with Rangers I ever want to see. At the moment we definitely need to hope for the best but continue to plan for less than that and right now that has to include some much-needed financial prudence.

  14. i would say retaining the league and getting a guaranteed 42 million CL boost would secure us financially.

  15. Perhaps if we’d accepted Lille’s £16m offer for Alfredo Morelos last summer we wouldn’t be having this conversation. But yet again the yahoos might have got 10IAR ? Morelos remains our biggest asset(along with Kent). At some point both will likely be sold. Hopefully replacements are being identified

  16. Not only did they break various protocols, but they actually also returned with one chap having contracted Covid-19 and nearly a dozen more went into quarantine. Did e.g. anyone ask who the couple to the right of Brown were, siting within arm`s length? Article recounting the trip.

  17. Champions League is a must if we want to avoid further share issues. Looking at it we got 10m Euros for our Europa League run making groups in Champions League and no wins will get you around 20m Euros. There is also this ten year coefficient thing i dont really understand that can make a massive difference. For example Shakhtar got 25m for that alone this year and Middytland (?) got 2m who have a similar rank to us

  19. Dave King was saying that so that fans would buy into the C1872 appeal of buying his shares rather than putting their money into the club.

  23. The yahoos and their political bedfellows will be watching Rangers supporters lashing out with accusations about nasty words and will be rubbing their hands in anticipation of revenge...mark my words. I believe Glen Kamara. I hope the Czech lad is found out and punished and his club get pulled up for some of their silly statements but I do wonder about the eagerness of Bears to go OTT when we are often the first to be accused of behaving disreputably. Sectarianism and racism are the same thing in UEFA's eyes.

  24. By the tone of JT’s words, it seems he thinks this was a box-ticking exercise from the football authorities in Scotland with no intention of any action. Perhaps I am reading too much into it, but he certainly wasn’t complimentary of the meeting. On Slavia, I hope we come out and say we will only back off when the racist scumbag has been suitably punished, and that the rancid club can do one until then.

  25. French Eddie didn't get the move he wanted in the summer and downed tools. ended up self isolating 3 times and got them knocked out of Europe twice while losing them the league. Alfredo didn't get the move he wanted and knuckled down and had his best season ever winning us the league.

  26. Love the wee guy. Despite all the crap he has to take from opposition players, fans, the press and officials, he keeps coming back for more, works as hard as anyone and really has been a standout player since he arrived.
