  1. Can't disagree with too many of those ratings Cammy. Agree whole-heartedly with your ratings of Keeper and defence (and just how sad is it that you are right when you saw Whittaker and Bougherra are the only two players we have capable of beating a man with the ball.....). At one point in the first half when Whittaker whipped in a cracking cross I thought "Who is Alan Hutton ??" - I know that is high praise but, at times, Whittaker's play is as effective going forward as Hutton's is - only real difference being Hutton's pace. Whittaker needs to gain consistency to maintain the comparisons though. As for the midfield I wouldn't give Davis as low as a 3 - I would say he played as poorly as Smith and would have given him a "5". That said, Mendes also would have only got a "5" for me too as he was no better than the other two. As I said in another thread, the only midfielder right now worthy of a starting slot is Edu. Not his best game but he got stuck in, didn't hide, got forward in support (should have had TWO goals instead of just the one) and at least TRIED. Sometimes he loses positional sense though. Boyd and Velicka got no service but I was actually impressed with BOTH of their work-rates. Boyd seemed to do far more than usual - he was harrying and pressuring and dropping back to help out. Velicks did likewise and I was impressed with the way he didnt hide after the treatment he was getting (just how did Rob Jones last as long as he did without a yellow card ?). Miller definitely gave us something different when he came on and looked far more confident than he did pre-injury. The two chances he had he hit the target and, but for some very decent keeping, would have had a brace.
  2. Cracking read Cammy.... but Velicka an "ex-hero" of the Hibs fans ? Not sure I agree with that one
  3. As suspected they have their excuses at the ready. They have very short term memories. The reality is that, with the split, teams will play other teams at home 3 times and away once - I dont like it either but it is what it is. They say they want it to be fair - but in their eyes for it to be fair we should go to Tynecastle again and you can bet the ONLY reason they see it that way is because Hearts are third and the most likely team to take points off either side of the OF.

    Mr. Smith

I dont misunderstand you at all John. Look at Beckham, he does the exact same thing. He basically runs away from the direction he wants to strike the ball, it allows him to wrap his foot round it better. It isnt uncommon, they are basically running toward their own goal, then wrap foot around ball in the direction of the opponents goal. I agree it looks peculiar but, as I say, I have seen it done that way many many times now. We are discussing semantics anyway

    Mr. Smith

Sorry but I disagree, I dont think he played well today at all. Not our worst player but didnt offer a great deal going forward and didnt have anything to do defensively. I didnt think he played well (and I am a supporter of Stevie Smith). I dont think his run up to his FK's are weird either - take a look at most set piece takers - Beckham has a run up very similar, it allows them to wrap their foot around the ball and get more spin on it. I do agree though that his set pieces were very good today and something we have been lacking of late.
  6. I think you are right but that hardly makes it equitable. Hopefully we wont need the final game but, if we do, yet again WE are the ones having do do the business in the final game on the road. Given we have 3 of the final 5 games at home it again hardly seems equitable that our final game should be away. So of the first 4 games we are at home 3 times. That said, 9 points from the 3 home games and I suspect we will be champions. If it isnt over by the final game then we will be in for a huge nail-biter as Utd are always a tough game, home or away. The Jambos are a tough game at Tynecastle but dont travel too well.
  7. But Bamba undertakes the very same job that Thomson does for us. We have so many CB's and CM's we soon will be playing with a keeper and 10 CB/CM's

John, I agree with you to an extent - but we dont play at Parkhead on May 9th, we are at home
  9. I would tend to agree IF he was playing well. Now, I am not defending ANY of our players who are not playing well but the fact remains that BF has been playing poorly this season. His replacement, Edu, has actually played quite well. That makes Edu the man in possession. OR...... Mendes should drop out to be replaced by BF - Edu is probably the only CM who currently deserves to stay in the team. So right now it is Edu AND one from Ferguson OR Mendes - at least for this Bear.
  10. Who do Liverpool get ?
  11. Strachan, Reid and McInnes. I have to say that I don't see how Strachan could be nominated without Smith being nominated. Both teams have been equally poor, both got punted from Europe at the first time of asking. The only difference this season is an ET win in the CIS and, currently, a 1 point difference in the league, which isnt guaranteed to end in victory. Further we are likely to win the Scottish Cup (more prestigious than the CIS) and could win the league - Strachan's nomination is further proof that these awards should be given at the END of the season. Given Reid is nominated I would actually have nominated Laszlo before Strachan and probably even Levein. Hearts were a shambles prior to Laszlo coming in and he has done a real good job with them. I am not too fussed about Strachan being nominated but there is NO WAY should he win it.
  12. Game over - Saints up 2-0. Go on Gus's boys !!!
  13. Saints up 1-0 - that could be a blessing for us. I hate McGhee anyway so will be delighted if they dont make the top 6 !!
  14. We all should have more than a passing interest in this game today. An hour in and the game is still goalless. Hopefully it remains this way or that St Mirren get a goal as that would virtually guarantee Hibs make the top 6. Having said that, a draw would be better IMO as Hibs need to then avoid a heavy defeat. If we go a goal or two up they would settle for losing 2-0 and we would settle for a 2-0 win. If Saints score Hibs are guaranteed the top 6 spot so would have nothing to lose by going at us. And the pressure would be off which often means teams play better.
  15. I did s_a but thanks for the reminder. Will get it done tonight as I am at a course all day. That means early Friday morning for you UK folks..... So if anyone wants to take it on feel free.
  16. And that is ANOTHER anomaly. How the hell can Caldwell get in and Bougherra doesnt ? It is an absolute travesty that Bougherra isnt listed. He has been far and away the best defender in the league this year and most probably simply the best player. But to have him beaten to a nomination by Caldwell is just incredulous !
  17. Play better ? Bougherra should have been walking away with this. Shows how ridiculous this award is.
  18. Abysmal that Mendes and Davis are nominated when Bougherra isnt. Bougherra has easily been our best player this season. Brown is a stick-on for this given the other candidates - yet Bougherra should win it.....
  19. I wasn't aiming my post at anyone in particular S_A. I merely was giving my opinion on how I see the "campaign". But the notion of flawed thinking and motive doesn't necessarily wash with me. If someone commits a murder because of flawed thinking but doesn't have a motive it is still murder. Regardless of motive in this instance those who are publicising the "campaign" are, in my opinion, tainting RANGERS and not Celtic, which in itself seems very ironic - in trying to taint Celtic they are tainting their own club and I don't actually see too much tainting of Celtic either. One thing to bear in mind is that the "perpetrators" (being Jock Stein, the Kelly's etc) are no longer running the club or at least not the public face and, obviously, in Jock Stein's case passed away - so is the "campaign" really serving its purpose when those involved are no longer involved in the day to day of Celtic. I could be wrong but I dont think any of them are still involved, are they ? Personally I find it all cringe-worthy, but each to their own.
  20. Personally I dont see how the blame gets more evenly apportioned in this instance. Gers fans are being lambasted all over the place. Our retort ? To resort to petty, distasteful name calling of probably the best Scottish manager who ever lived (regardless of his affiliations) and one who was adored, for the most part, as national team coach too. So you think that singing these tunes and having BJK banners will apportion some blame over to Jock Stein and CFC ? Personally I think that all it does it put another cloud over US and Rangers. It is glorifying, in a sense, paedophilia. And that is crass. It is also shameful as it brings up terrible memories for the victims. Sorry but I find that cringe-worthy and abhorrent. Whether BJK or not, those victims and families of Torbett do not deserve to be dragged through it all again just for "one-upmanship". I find the whole campaign more than distasteful - I find it shameful on our part.
  21. the bassas have a short memory. But for their CHEATING their way out of a game last season they wouldn't be going for 4 in a row. Do they forget that they managed to avoid McGeady's suspension for the Jan OF game last season and also saw us lose our most influential player (Hutton) to a transfer ? Muppets. As for this "crazy" rule that suspensions carry over - tough shit. The rules are the rules. Get on with it and stop greetin.
  22. Aside from that one mistake Broadfoot had a decent game. Certainly decent enough for me to be more confident in paying Broadfoot than Dailly. Dailly is an accident waiting to happen. And a CB pairing of 39 yr old Weir and 35 yr old Dailly fills me with ZERO confidence.
  23. The rules are the rules Strap-on. What is it with the Tims and constantly having a chip on their shoulders ?
  24. You think that will end just because the SFA wants to draw a line under it ??
  25. Yep, as S_A says, exercise common sense and all will be fine. Copyright infringements etc will not be tolerated (for instance, there is a "sticky" that no requests for online links to games be requested as, for the most part, these would be copyright infringements). You will see plenty of youtube clips on the site and I dont see how the above would be negatively viewed, so long as it wasnt from any official site....
