    And why were we drawn at home again? Dont have the stats to hand but even on a 50-50 basis we should get drawn away occasionally. this puts us at a big disavantage. Can see it being 0-0 then it's squeaky bum time.

    Me too would fancy Bartley because of his verstility but Wenger's already stated he wants to assess him pre-season so that will be too late for us. I'm amazed that we cannot find 2 decent CB's from the 36 Scottish clubs or the 90 English ones - there must be plenty not getting a regular game who could do a job for us.

Regardless of whether or not we get Carlos this is still a huge disappointment - we need 2 CB's at least because you can't count Weir anymore and Bougie will have one more season at most.

    Thanks for injecting a welcome touch of realism but surely if there was no mileage in it Ally wouldn't have raised it in the first place.There must have been some informal dialogue taking place before it got to formal stage. My concern is his fitness, for why otherwise would Eck let him go - there's no way in the world he's a poorer defender than Collins and Richard Dunne.

    What keeps happening to me is when I selct 'reply with quote' and type in my message - it says 'message to short!!' In other words I cant reply with a quote from another poster! what am I doing wrong?

    When you think of the supposed targets we had not that long ago, heres's an update: Lost out on Vaughan Lost out on Conway Lost out on Goodwillie (cause we wouldn't pay what he's worth) Maybe lose out on Danns (to the dark side FFS) Probably lose out on Cuellar; Probably lose out on Wilson on loan now add to that: Bougherra - off Whitty - probably off Please, someone, take McGregor and make my misery complete.

    Yes it would. Blatter's friends have an issue with the FA - they could say a precedent has been set. Although the SFA are bad, Rangers would likely be admitted to the Blue Square Premier in the event of amalgamation.

    If the RoI can get Trappatoni we would be showing similar ambition if we went for Hiddink, but here's the rub: what is the point of recruiting a performance director if we allow Scottish players to play for TeamGB and put at risk the whole concept of Scottish international football. I hope someone has a quiet word with young Wylde and Hutton so they don't raise this nonsense again. What IS a performance director anyway?

Team GB could spell the end of the Scotland team as pointed out by Craig Brown among others. It could also lead to Scottish clubs being excluded from the Champions League as well, if the SFA is forced to merge with the English FA. We would just as well be called England.

    He won't get it because his achievements were for Scotland. Just like Jock Stein never got one when he became the first British manager to win the European Cup - if he had managed Man u like Busby did one year later he would have got it then. Yet winning for a Scottish club was a far greater achievement than Busby's.
