Yet again the great debate rages on wether its better to play badly and win rather that play well and lose. But why is it always one or the other? Why cant we expect our team to play well consistently through the whole season? Is it too much to ask to see a decent standard of football when you go to Ibrox? And why do so many accept the level of mediority that we a treated to? Last season saw Rangers almost complete a quardruple though playing a brand of football that had the fans cringing with embarrassment and our manager openly admitting that it wasnt very pleasing to the eye. it wasnt his job to entertain us apprently. They say that fortune favours the brave but smiths tactics and team selections were anything but that and the large slices of luck that he enjoyed throughout the season suddenly dried up and our managers mediocre style was shown up for all its worth. This season though lady luck rolled her dice in walters favour whilst our closest rivals blew a 7 point lead and fail to capitalise on our clubs financial implosion at chrismas. Good fortune indeed came our way in the shape of celtic lack of ambition, their over estimation of their own squad and the under estimation of ours. And lady luck again saved the day against a very competent Falkirk who bothered and harried us for 90 minutes, in fact the only thing they never had was the one thing we have had in abundance this season, luck. Two off the post, one off the bar and a very marginal offside saw walters run of good fortune continue and have his hide saved by a very good opertunist goal from Nacho Novo. I take little joy from victories like that. we got lucky. Which has been the story of walters smiths campaign this season. Hope and luck will continue to play a big part in Walters campaign next season. His tactics and team selections will see to that. What we need though is a manager with real ambition, one who will raise the standard of football that will allow us to actually compete in the CL and show our superiority in SPL. We cant depend on good fortune for ever. Were doomed if we do. So stop accepting the mediocrity that Smith delivers and demand more from him.

If a team like Falkirk can play a better standard of football generally with no money then why the hell cant Walter smith get his team playing and passing like it given the fact hes spent 30 million? An alarming amount of our fans are only far too willing to accept the mediorcrity served up by smith. I would rather we played better and won things.

there wasnt one hamburger stall outside the ground either. I could have eaten a scabby dug at the end of the game.

We will never get anywhere stumbling from season to season hoping for the best. It never worked last season and we got away with it this time round. We should be looking to maintain a decent standard of football and a reasonable level of consistency throughout the season. But we dont. Yesterdays game was typical of the dross we have become accustomed to under Walter Smith in his second tenure in the managers chair. Problem is we have no reason whatsoever to expect things to change next season. It will be more of the same again im afraid going from game to game with lady luck playing as much a part as anyone else in the side. I have wanted Walter smith to leave for quite some time and unlike some others i havent changed my opinion just because we won the league. And the performance against Falkirk only served to reinforce my opinions on the matter.

Thats the problem mate, he wont.

papering over the cracks yet again. Rangers were so bad yesterday i would have given the cup to falkirk for effort alone and i wasnt the only one in the stands that was of that opinion. yet again we are expected to accept mediority as the par. Does Walter Smith have any standards at all? Does he care that we are a laughing stock with his team selections and tactics? Rode our luck is a term im sick to the back teeth of using were Walter Smith is concerned and the sooner he leaves the better.
-
I wouldnt have grudged Falkirk the cup today given the performance they put in and most of the fans around me were of that opinion too. Take todays game as a warning of what is to come next season folks. It aint gonna get any better just because we won the league. It will be the same old dross im afraid but for some reason that is beyond my control i feel compelled to spend every second weekend at Ibrox win lose or draw. And believe me i question my sanity just about every time i attend.

I suggested this in another thread. next oF game would be quite fitting!

following the operation tango success wouldnt it be great if everyone turned up at the next OF game in an orange top just to rub it in? and another thing. I asked all the tims who go to games if they actually got caught out by operation tango and everyone replied "No the guy in front of me had a radio"! try it out. Lying fecks!:spl:

Im not going to jump on the I love walter bandwagon just because we won the league. He left our club in a helluva state last year when we should have been going from strength to strength and like the Advocaat episode I fear the backlash of the clubs mismanagement will be with us for years to come. In my opinion that is a realistic take on our current situation. If you think or know otherwise then im all ears. anyway i think i can hear your phone ringing. Itl walter smith wanting a BJ and you sound like your just the man for the job.

This time last year we were financialy solvent after our European run. Walter Smith though through bad decision making and bad management has put us deeper in the myre than we were when Advocaat left. Some will argue that the chairman and Bain are to blame too, but it was Smith who failed to strengthen the squad in key areas before the CL qualifiers and it was Smith who left us in the debt were in now following the spending spree in the wake of that defeat. The only way the club can get out of the mess it finds itself now is to play its way out of it. We have no plan B this time round. Last summer has left a very bitter taste in my mouth and i blame smiths incompetence. The league campaign this season too seen some very strange and baffling team selections and his overcausiousness knew no bounds. I am as relieved as i am pleased that we won the league and have to acknowledge Celtics own incompetence and the part they played in bringing the title to Ibrox. You wont get lucky like that two years running Walter. Just ask Gordon Strachan. That means success on the park on all fronts. winning the league next year will be do or die again. CL too. we really need to get to the next stages as well. Walter Smith is not the man to take us forward

Dont think hes as old as that craig! -
We need fresh ideas and a manager who knows how to develop young players. Smith aint the man im afraid.

It is her. she dyed her hair!

Time for Walter to ride off into the sunset as a winner and move on up stairs. He came and stopped the rot after leguens mess but we are now in a worse mess on and off the park than we were after Advocaat left. there is no plan B to get us out of the big hole this time. Smith blew the club apart with his mispending in the summer and his spending spree after the Kuanas debacle. His negativety will be with me for years to come im afraid. I dont have the same passion for football that i once had and its down to watching smiths boring bland style of play. Enjoy the win walter, and step down. And give football at Ibrox a fighting chance.
-
That is the sort of performance i would like to see from us every week. Taking the game to the oppostion and stamping our authority all over the park. We shouldnt have to wait for make or break moments to turn in performances like this.
-
Walter to stay for Champs league challenge...AND make him a SIR now!!!
gisabeer replied to John Barr's topic in Rangers Chat
we had a poll on it earlier. it was pretty clear what most people thought. -
Rangers playing it smart? Celtic's media own goal?
gisabeer replied to Super_Ally's topic in Rangers Chat
Samaras hasnt bothered us in any of the old form games this season so we shouldnt let bother us now. I remember Malby saying that "he wished he could play Rangers every week" after the six two game only to get humped 5-1 at Ibrox. thanks george, everytime someone opens their mouth like that before a big game it usually comes back to haunt them. -
mendes has been crap for months, id play erguson and give him the chance to go out on a high.
