When did ââ?¬Å?defendingââ?¬Â become a dirty word?
gisabeer replied to Super_Ally's topic in Rangers Chat
With the quality of opposition dispatched on the way to the 2008 UEFA Cup Final it would be a little unfair to dismiss that run as merely luck. As such, Walter Smith had struck on a winning formula for that squad. Suggestions this pre-season were that Smith may utilise a more attacking outlook this season and certainly that has been the intention of setting out in a 4-3-3 formation, even if it has not yet been perfected. I do not expect an expansive attacking game from Rangers on Tuesday. I expect Smith to set out with the game plan that maximises our chances of obtaining a positive result. Building a game plan on defensive solidity and playing for 0-0 draw is not the same thing. Given the quality and form of tonights opposition and form Ally i will gladly accept a draw in any way shape or form. i fully expect a backs against the wall performance, not because we choose to, rather because we have to. Defending is not a crime. But playing with no sense of attacking ambition is! This statement sums up the 2008 season to a tee mate. Imo Smith spent more time trying not to lose rather than trying to win, and that is a crime. Flair and skill where replaced with stubborness caution. as a Rangers supporter and a football fan I found it totally unacceptable. If a boxer wants to win a fight he has to throw a few killer punches along the line somewhere no matter how defensively he fights, and for me Smith doesnt throw enough. -
Wilson, Ness, Adam, Fleck, Little, Shinnie, have had little or no chance under smith. all the others came through with previous managers.

Our form isnt great this season and tommorrow nights big match is a real toughy given the opposition and how well they are playing. im going for a 1-1 backs to the wall draw. i think its the best we will do.

might as well for all the good we get out of the place.

Some of the players, like myself, had been promoted from the youth team, but Jock wasn't scared to use us. hope Walter reads this

Anyone think Boyd will start against Sevilla on Tuesday?
gisabeer replied to Zappa's topic in Rangers Chat
Theres nothing i would like better my self fraser. It would be a great boost for the player himself and the club if he could raise his game on the big stage and rattle in a couple of goals. But you have to give him the chance first. -

I would love to see boyd on from the start just to see how he would get on. I think after all this time and all the goals he has scored he deserves a chance. dont think walter will see it that way though. -
anything that gives us an option other than FF is alright by me.

Queen of the South 1 : 2 Rangers - Player Ratings and MoM Poll

defensively we were a shambles. QOS had umpteen chances to score and fluffed every one of them. No way was the boogie man motm. I feel that Weir has started to show his age in the last couple of games that hes played and wonder how long Walter will persevere with him. Keeper takes it for me. -
He may not be worth be worth 20 grand a week as a footballer but as a stand up comedian?:fish:

"In previous years, a lot of clubs didn't really try and win the (UEFA) cup; they played weakened teams and rested players. clodwell speak Rangers were lucky to get to the final and the teams they played were shite! "But this year it has new format, very similar to the Champions League with some very good teams in it, so I'm sure it will be a better competition." We may not be in the CL but this one is just as good! WIT A FUD!

No i said if anyone will get sold it will be him. He did state that he wanted a crack at the CL and would like to move on to the premiership. If he keeps turning in performances like last nights then it will be sooner rather than later.

Stuttgart 1 : 1 Rangers - Player Ratings and MoM Poll

he was a standout for the 90 minutes and gets my vote ahead of naisy. -
It was a great result and again i find my self eating a large slice of humble pie after rothens performance. I questioned what he was bringing to the team and last night i found out! One thing that baffles me though is why Walter never used his subs. Miller tired midway through the second half and could have easily been replaced by Novo or Boyd. I just wonder if we could have went on to win the game if we utilised our subs.

think he retired last season.

I think the others were just unlucky that their injuries effectivley ended their careers. I know durrant was told by doctors that hed have to change his game if he wanted to continue. But i witnessed a different player that i had watched on wednesday night. He never looked out of place against the Dutch and caused them alot of problems. hope he carries the good form into club level. well done young man. you have made me eat my words as i critised you in the past.
