Agreed. Souness was twenty-odd years ago. The current situation is a million miles from when Souness bent McCluskey's leg on his debut at Ibrox. We'll get McCoist and it will break me heart to see this Rangers legend despised for his inevitable failure in the managers job. If Murray is choosing McCoist for genuine footballing reasons then he is incompetent. If he is choosing McCoist just because he believes it will placate the fans then he is a self-serving and devious bastard. I don't believe Murray ever had a passion for Rangers. I believe he had a passion for the reflected glory his initial period in charge brought him (back to previous statement about inheriting the benefits of work already done by Holmes and Souness). Murray has never been a Rangers man, he no longer hides the fact he despises Rangers men. He thinks he will throw us McCoist and we'll all be happy-clappy customers again.

Some really good exchanges. However, what kind of players he could attract or what money he'd have to do it may be less important right now that what a manager such as Souness would do with the players he did have and what he could do to unite the club again. Can you remember how it actually felt when you heard Graeme Souness had been made manager or Rangers. I do and I'd like to feel that way again. Whoever it might be, I think one important caveat is necessary. It won't happen while Murray still owns the club. The man we need in the manager's chair will not work under Murray, that much I'll guarantee.

What have his achievements after leaving Rangers got to do with anything? If you cannot appreciate what he did for this club then you simply haven't a clue. Walter Smith fed on what Souness built for years after he took over. Surely you don't actually believe that our current manager would have achieved what he did if Souness hadn't already made it possible for him? Whatever I might think about his decision to go to Liverpool, Souness joins Wallace as the only decent managers we've had since the club lost it's sense of direction when the sacked Scot Symon. And that was 41 years ago - you'd think we could do better than that.

This is perhaps one of the most revealing things I've seen in recent years. Every time we get to this stage in the failure of each successive manager and start talking about possible replacements, we realise that taking the Rangers job wouldn't actually appeal to most candidates. It's almost beyond belief that this could be the case, although it undoubtedly is. We're back where we were when Greig resigned and found ourselves turned down by Alex Ferguson and Jim McLean. That Rangers should again hold such low appeal again is the strongest condemnation of the way the club is being run. The shambles of the early 1980's continued until David Holmes arrived to change it - it will only change again when Murray gets his sorry backside out of this club.
-
Interesting but probably just speculation. However, in case you actually have some basis for that statement, how about clarifying the evidence.
-
One step at a time mate. First I'd settle for seeing the back of Walter. After that our disinterested chairman will undoubtedly invite laffing boy to steer us through the next period of decline. We haven't had a decent manager since Souness and guess who didn't appoint him? It doesn't really matter who I'd like, only whether Murray continues to own the club.

The madness is ripening nicely.

I hated Smith's management when he was winning nine in a row, when he lost ten in a row and from the day I heard he was returning to the club. I still hate it. But I don't hate the man and never will. And what I did in Manchester will remain a secret.

I can understand liking the taste of the worm but to chew on the hook provides almost no sport at all.
-
With respect, it's nothing to do with "feeling love" for people. It's about winning trophies, especially league championships. I doubt if many Rangers supporters hate Walter Smith, just his management of the team. When Smith goes, it won't be because no one loves him, it will be because he failed to deliver the success needed at this club. As a matter of course, no one from Smith's current management team should even be considered to take over.
-
Altogether now ...........
-
If that's the plan then we've been protesting for most of the last ten years.
-
If he wasn't ready for the transfer you have to wonder why Smith paid £3.5m for someone who apparently cannot perform at this level. Someone really should tally up the money spent by Rangers on non-performers these last few years.
-
No, it's explicitly about a cause, really no ambiguity there at all. And absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with promoting any website - in fact it calls for different groups to act in concert. Sorry you're unable to be fussed...... did you have a point?
-
Not so strange when you think how many people have been banned for equally "contentious" issues on that particular strange place. I think it has something to do with petty jealousies and an ego out of control.
-
It lasted only a few minutes on that website before being deleted and a three day ban handed out. Amazing really, unless you happen to understand the personalities involved. You'd think they'd put Rangers first.
-
The entire Webster saga is a bloody embarrassment. We must have had our eyes tight shut when we went after this guy. How much do you suppose he has cost us for absolutely no return. Daniel Prodan proportions in terms of stupidty.
-
Nothing characterises Walter Smith more than his comments when being interviewed immediately after we were knocked out of Europe this season. "I could see that coming" said Walter, at which point it was obvious we were on yet another path to failure. From a club renowned for the best management in the country to an endless cycle of incompetence. Where can it possibly stem from.........hmm.
-
You really think so? You sound like someone who hasn't a clue what's really going on. Naive or just immature?
-
Actually, the one thing that has held us back for so long is the absurd unwillingness of so many people to accept the truth about the appalling incompetence that has overwhelmed this club for years. How long will this denial go on before eyes eventually open.
-
That's the spirit. Soldier on regardless. Tomorrow's another day. Head in the sand. Pretend nothings wrong. We are the people. Celtic are no better than us. There's always next season. And the season after that. And the season after that. Barry's better than Lampard. Murray built Ibrox. Walter will save Rangers. Stupidity instead of sense. How many points will Rangers drop between now and the end of the season?
-
That is exactly the contingency we were made aware of a week ago. It's inconceivable that Smith isn't looking for a way out. He may not be good enough to manage Rangers but he is well aware of the lost cause he's currently pursuing.
-
That's easy - none of them were/are good enough. Pick three poor managers, you get three poor managers.
-
And just what is wrong with Walter's choice - Lee McCulloch?
-
That, I'm afraid, is an appalling but increasingly likely possibility.
