I heard that too and you're spot on. In contrast, when ask in he thought Rangers had done enough to take something from the game, Smith replied with typical clarity "Yes and no really". Hearts have won 5 in a row. Celtic have won 12 in a row. Our achievements speak for themselves. Time to admit another failure and change the manager yet again - if only Murray knew how to find one.

The question is ..... would we be any worse off if we did, which is doubtful to say the least. To wait unti the end of the season would do nothing more than waste another six months. The answer in any walk of life is always to take the early decision - you limit the damage and provide more time for improvement. The comment in a previous post about short termism is classic head-up-arse nonsense.

"You can definitely see them dropping more points than us to the rest of the SPL though" ....... do you think that, in light of the facts, it's time to let a little reality into the equation. Wishful thinking is like a drug, it gets in the way of rational judgement. Rangers WILL drop more points that them to the rest of the SPL. The reasons are beyond obvious.

I feel some relief that more people are now seeing Smith for the liability he surely is. Too many supporters couldn't get NIAR out of their heads for so long where Smith is concerned. Walter and Ally - Murray's dream ticket - my arse. I said from the start that all it would do was waste another 3 - 5 years and we would end up further back than we started. Far more people still need to get their heads round just how perilous is our situation and think seriously about whether they as individuals are prepared to break traditional silence ("the Rangers way") and make whatever protest they can muster.

Lafferty ........ and Adam, and Ferguson, and Mendes, and Whittaker, and Broadfoot, and Darcheville. Seven passengers could be too many for the team to carry, eh Walter?

Wild, groundless, bonkers speculation............ CEO and shareholder Advocaat running a Rangers with Murray as the majority (but much less so) shareholder.

Sadly, it wouldn't break my heart if that was headline news tomorrow morning. At least he wouldn't be writing it for a while.

Rangers Fan Found Guilty For Singing Famine Song
maineflyer replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
Do I understand it correctly that Rangers paid two stewards to go to Rugby Park to look for opportunities to report Rangers fans for specific behaviour associated with the famine song? Oh dear, oh dear Mr Chairman, what are you doing? You sorry, bitter piece of work.- 13 replies

I'm sure you're right about speculative deals, which are normally the ones that get (demand) most publicity when credit is unavailable. It's always convenient to blame the banks for the failure of a deal that perhaps wasn't so clever in the first place. I also wonder if there is a continuing interest, albeit on a fairly quiet level, in gaining market share within the UK mainstream banking sector and hence the willingness to challenge each others' offers? Of more concern is maintaining income over the next couple of years with which to service the debt, however hard or easy it's been to come by. It's going to be bloody.

I'm not sure what the norm is but what I can say is this has been the reality for me. I have a subsidiary in the US but on a very small scale with everything effectively resourced from the UK, so I've no particular experience of the current US banking situation and it is largely irrelevant to my business. However, everything I said above is 100% correct and it's hard to conclude other than there is plenty of credit available if you can provide collateral and a decent cashflow. I have to say I expected the worst when I first became aware of the deteriorating situation but it's been a revealing experience these last few weeks. I'm only talking about a little over two of million pounds so perhaps that does make some difference. What has been a surprise is seeing rates negotiated fairly easily from 2.35% down to 1.85% above LIBOR, which is a considerable movement. Of course you know I've had my tongue in my cheek to an extent and I'm not unaware of the difficulties being experienced. I said what I did some time ago mainly as a counter to the emerging wisdom that you couldn't borrow enough to buy a lollipop. That's plainly not true. Maybe Goldman Sachs are just like a lot of other banks, protecting their balance sheets until year end, only more so.

It wasn't someone, it was me. And here's why. Over the last nine months or so I've built and recently moved into a new office and factory facility. I'm in the process of converting the development overdraft facilty to a term loan and I have three banks not only willing to provide a range of financing options but actually competing for the business. Two of them have have been prepared to negotiate down their banking margins and arrangement fees. Credit certainly IS available and apparently in some abundance. During the last six months I have also bought and financed three large CNC machines without the slightest problem. Today I heard that the government is supposedly considering "forcing" banks to lend money. What a crock. The thought that governments will exercise better judgement than banks is ridiculous. In the real world, outside of the media political circus, I've seen no great shortage of credit. What there might well be is an increasing scarcity of credit for companies and individuals that present undue or unacceptable risk and I can't say I find that a bad thing. Perhaps those are the people the government wants the banks to go back to lending to? Conspiracy? I've no idea. What I can tell you is my own recent experience and I'm no speculator. Of course why let facts get in the way of a much needed political excuse.

20 Years of Sir David Murray - Dominance or Failure
maineflyer replied to Frankie's topic in Rangers Chat
I wish I did Craig but I've certainly got no special insight or solution. I've railed against Murray for years in an attempt to mobilise like-minded fans. Only a mass expression of dissatisfaction will ever have any real effect and I no longer believe that is going to happen in the forseeable future. After 20 years I have to believe that Murray has shown all the colours he has to show. I see no reason to believe that he will re-invent himself now. If that's the case then I expect the decline to continue - I certainly don't want that to happen but without any credible basis for believing otherwise I think the future is looking increasingly bleak. The frustration is almost overhwelming. I don't think Frankie's efforts are futile. We all have to do what we can and Frankie is more able than most. I've lost count of the letters and emails I've written to and on behalf of this club over the years and I wish I could believe that even one of them had made any difference, certainly nothing that I'm aware of. The black cloud I describe is mine alone and how I genuinely see the future. I hope like hell I'm wrong but I see no point telling it otherwise. Good luck to Frankie and all those who continue to wrestle with this chairman. I'll no doubt keep trying myself and if Frankie or anyone else asks for my help it will be willingly given. -
If you say so. I've no problem at all if you don't agree with me. I don't post in the hope of finding consent. I simply post what I think, no more, no less. I've absolutely no interest whether you agree with me or not.

20 Years of Sir David Murray - Dominance or Failure
maineflyer replied to Frankie's topic in Rangers Chat
That's about as pathetic a post as I've read on this forum. I said nothing of the kind and if you're simply lurking in the hope of feeding your personal irritation and venting your own particular bile then you need to get out more. I simply voiced an opinion on the subject. You really should be able to allow other members to do so without the need for personal attacks. Still, if it keeps you off the streets.......... -
I've can't say I feel any sense of loss but it's good to see you eventually had the good judgement to delete that post.

20 Years of Sir David Murray - Dominance or Failure
maineflyer replied to Frankie's topic in Rangers Chat
I've no issue with your strategy and for years I've openly advocated direct action against Murray. I agree with you entirely that personal pressure is the only thing that will ever get his attention. However, I've since come to the conclusion that it is ultimately pointless. Murray will never listen. He's not even vaguely interested in what you or I think and is so obsessed with his own infalibility that his heels will simply dig ever deeper. The decline will just go on until this house of cards collapses in ruin. I see real tragedy ahead for this club. I see nothing happening that gives any cause for hope whatsoever. So Frankie, if you think that is sitting back and moaning then so be it. But it's not the moaning of a simple malcontent. I've watched in anger and disgust at Murray's mismanagement of Rangers, speaking out against him since the mid 1990's. my opinions on Murray have only hardened during the last decade as the situation gets ever more futile. You obviously know how bad it is becoming and how close we are to the edge at this club. With so many performing seals filling Ibrox every matchday, I just feel I've passed the point where I can see any profit in protest and am becoming strangely fascinated with the impending crash. However, I'll watch your actions with interest. -
20 Years of Sir David Murray - Dominance or Failure
maineflyer replied to Frankie's topic in Rangers Chat
Surely his ego is the problem here. If it wasn't for his bloody ego he would have gone long ago. If you really think there is any appealing to someone as self-obsessed as Murray then you just ain't been paying attention. He'll take us to the very edge, kick us over and then leave. -
20 Years of Sir David Murray - Dominance or Failure
maineflyer replied to Frankie's topic in Rangers Chat
Both actually. Ten years of dominance followed by ten years of utter failure. Go now Murray. Please, sell and go now. -
From the evidence of this season and last, the only things wrong with Charlie Adam are that he can't pass, can't tackle, absolutely cannot take a corner kick, and has as much pace as a tortoise swimming through treacle. Other than that, I'm sure there is every reason for the emotional claptrap about him only being a boy and still developing. He's not a boy, he's a man with several seasons under his belt, who still cannot get even the basics right. Time to get off his back? Yes, it's time to start kicking his arse to see if he wants to take his place at this club seriously. In my experience, players get the reaction from the supporters that they earn. When they play badly on a regular basis they deservedly get pelters. When they play well they get praised and idolised. It's not up to the fans to pander to players, it's up to players to earn the respect of the fans. When Hutton got criticised, it was because he was playing like a dork. When he played well, he was treated like a hero. On the whole, the fans never, ever lie about players.

I suspect his signing and subsequent lack of games says more about our manager than it does about the player.

Unfortunately his career lowlights would take considerably more space to list. Unless Smith really has lost his marbles, it's clear the only reason for his unsolicited support of Charlie Adam is that wee Charlie comes cheap.
