When deciding who is and who isn't a legend, length of service and commitment to the club are among the most important factors IMO, as you can probably tell from the examples I gave earlier. However, I also think you have to create another category which recognises once in a generation genius. I completely accept the arguments about Gascoigne and Laudrup not being legends but I respectfully disagree. Jim Baxter, for example, played less games for Rangers than Peter Lovenkrands, yet we all know who made the greater contribution to the club. Will Lovenkrands be talked about 30 years after his retirement? For me, Laudrup and Gascoigne attain legendary status for their genius as footballers while at the club, in spite of the short period of time they were at Rangers. A kid growing up today would probably be greatly surprised that Laudrup spent only four seasons at the club, such are the reverential tones with which he is spoken about by Bears. We've been lucky to see some very good players in recent times - Huistra, Mikhailitchenko, Walters, de Boer - but Laudrup and Gascoigne were great. I live in hope we'll see something similar at Ibrox again.

Bollocks Aye, one Scottish Cup. Them were the 'hoodoo' years (he didn't play in 93 or 96 finals).

Davie Meiklejohn 1919-36, 563 apps (12 League titles, 5 Scottish Cups) George Young 1941-57, 428 apps (6 League titles, 4 Scottish Cups, 2 League Cups) Bob McPhail 1927-1940, 408 apps 261 goals (9 League titles, 6 Scottish Cups) John Greig 1961-78, 755 apps (1 ECWC, 5 League titles, 6 Scottish Cups, 4 League Cups) Ally McCoist 1983-98, 581 apps 355 goals (9 League titles, 1 Scottish Cup, 9 League Cups) Brian Laudrup 1994-98 (God) I'm a big fan of Davie Weir's, but he doesn't come close to any of the above. And that's no criticism. "Legend" is bandied about far, far too easily these days.

Scotland at the World Cup - stay off the fizzy drinks ma man! I don't think you can compare Davie Weir with Gazza. Gazza was something special, a once-every-20-years footballer (or twice as in our case with Laudrup). I'm grateful for Weir's presence in the team, but Gascoigne was an absolute pinch-yourself privilege to have at the club.

I must know feck-all about football because I was dead against his signing when it happened. He's almost certainly Walter Mk II's best signing and has every right to be miffed at the amount of fawning Cuellar and Bougherra have received while he has been the lynch-pin of a rock-solid defence for two and a half years. Our defence hasn't been as consistently strong since Gough's era IMO. As for the way he conducts himself, he's a Ranger in the Struth-era mould. Disagree that he is a "great" though Fraser. Meiklejohn and Corky Young were Rangers greats. Weir has simply been a very good defender in a mediocre Rangers outfit for 2 or 3 years.

I know VB had a couple of guys at the Q&A.

Who came up with this idea? The SFA? And for that reason, I'm out.

Nice one. No surprise about FF though.

Yet the fact remains that neither McGeady, Brown nor Boruc has received a single bid for their services in their Celtic careers.

One of the most effective forwards at Ibrox in recent times, arguably the worst left winger in the club's history. Gave us some great moments but had the heart of a peanut.
-
Me too. Why would a PSG fan bother writing anything that long for the benefit of us?
-
I've got absolutely zero confidence in Burley to do anything with this Scotland team. I've the feeling some of the team feel the same.

I see. Iain wrote a few Gers autobiographies back in the day, Durrant's was one I think. Seems to have completely disappeared from view in recent years. Pity because he was certainly one of us, may even have been a writer for Rangers' in-house stuff at one point (Rangers Monthly?).

World Cup year as well.

Daryll's not a relation of Iain King is he? Both supposedly Rangers-supporting journos.

If you look at pictures of the Simpson-Durrant tackle it is genuinely every bit as bad. And with just as much intent as well.

Personally I'd have banned him for a season. Cantona was banned for 9 months for far less. Absolute scumbag.

It's almost a yes from me, but the fact is we are in dire need of CB cover. If Rothen makes the most of his talent though, then he should be a valuable addition to the team.

Very interesting and encouraging read that. Two things that stood out - firstly we have the bheasts to thank for our new French acquisition. Secondly, I'm more convinced than ever after reading that that if the club wanted to punt another player for cash in the summer, it should have been McGregor.

Exactly, hence the term mercenary. While Bougherra will not be a Rangers player beyond next summer at the latest, he seems to have a bit more about him and I'd suggest he will leave with better wishes from the support than Cuellar did.
-
Cuellar was nothing more than a mercenary. He'd just played in a UEFA Cup Final and he immediately jumped ship to the first middle-of-the-road English club that came in for him, a club where incidentally he is going to win knob-all.

Daniel Cousin - Rangers player #5397 to realise too late that the grass is rarely greener.

A Grade A wanker who was lionised by a large section of our support for 2 good seasons out of 5.
