  1. A bit like the players, if someone offers you an easy bonus are you going to turn it down? It seems fairly obvious to me that what happened was that he said or "they" said, look we'd like to make it around the half million or so that Mather was on but from a public perception point of view it has to be less, but we'll write in any easy bonus and no one will know. This was disingenuous at best and now it's been revealed. Yes, he could have said I think you should make it a bit harder for me, and perhaps he should have done that.
  2. I did say he lost it latterly. IMHO and I know many do not share it, what he was guilty of was being over ambitious and allowed himself to be taken in by Advocat but never forget that in 1993 we were one goal away from the European Cup Final and as I say we did the 9-in-a-row. So a tenure of two halves, perhaps you'd agree? Anyway, as I said I don't want to re-open that debate; it was more disagreement with the general line of Traditionalist's comments.
  3. McCulloch should not have got a 2-year contract, he and Black are overpaid, Simonsen was an expensive indulgence as was Cribari but we needed an experienced CB at the time, Foster is a decent player at this level and probably the next, Daly was a mistake, Faure is our best CB but played out of position most of the time which is not his fault, Hutton has been unfortunate with injury but what is wrong with Bell and Templeton (our only genuinely creative player) except perhaps again their salaries which are down to Green. Wallace cannot do anything about any of those except Simonsen, Cribari and Hutton whose contracts are up. Without wishing to re-open the SDM debate and acknowledging that he lost it laterly; he gave us a team which included a world class players in Laudrup and top European players like Gascoigne and Mikhailechenko, leading to nine-in-a row; what more do you want? Calling him a "charlatan" is a long way wide of the mark; I'm sure that even his biggest detractors would not say that.
  4. This very valid point seems to have been lost in the debate. After, SDM and Whyte many people said never again for a one man band.
  5. TBH Cristobal miscalculated a bit and we got a real bargain (effectively got the paellas for nothing, although he got £150 for the beer and wine, so he wasn't complaining) so it's bound to go up a bit anyway. Agree about paying for extra meals although it will depend on whether any come for the meal or just for the bread at the end, like DS! All that's assuming folks want to go back there.
  6. I spoke to Davie Smith yesterday about the possibility of getting some of his old colleagues e.g. Colin Jackson and Tam Forsyth along to the next one and he seemed to think that Willie Johnston at least wouldn't be an issue. I'll liaise through FS in due course.
  7. I heard yesterday that Cribari has an option clause in his contract for a third season; hopefully it requires both sides to tango.
  8. Whilst Rangers already have a Charity Foundation, I'm sure that something like a Sandy Jardine Cancer Foundation would attract a lot of support (assuming the family were agreeable). If this idea strikes a chord I am prepared to contact the Club (that's if it's not been suggested already).
  9. I hate it when you two gang up on me especially when I gave up my dinner to write a last minute preview. Night, night.
  10. Obviously being discriminated against then on the grounds of her sex. She should have applied for the job.
  11. His salary is par for the course and the any criticism of the bonus should be delayed until we know the terms. If it is in line with proper criteria for improved financial performance then it may well be justified in whole or in part. The £25,000 for promotion isn't justified but it's a great deal beter than 100% for the same.
  12. Did you just agree with me, GS; will you be able to sleep tonight
  13. I'll do a quickie if you want but it won't be up to my usual standard, if I say so myself.
  14. I could just as easily argue it the other way; but I was mindful of Zappa's strictures.
  15. A wonderful piece, Andy, elegant as the man himself.
  16. It's such an obvious question in fact that you have to assume that he simply told said journos that it was off limits, or off the record or both. You would then have to ask yourself why that might be.
  17. I'm not sure that sanctions against the club for pitch invasions etc would hasten admin 2 but the reason why some fans appear to welcome or at least not be disturbed by the prospect of admin 2 is quite obvious, I'd suggest.
  18. I realise that you are passionate about your view of this but "pitch invasions" would be totally counter-productive, as they would only see sanctions against the club.
  19. That's just utter nonsense. The chanting primarliy came from the Union Bears etc in the bottom left (viewed from the main stand) of the Broomloan Stand, it was not widespread at all.
  20. Supporting the team over the finishing line surely ought to be the top priority tomorrow.
  21. I think we'll need to agree to disagree on most of this but I take on board your first point, which proves that after 4 years I still have a lot to learn about message board etiquette, never mind how to divide up quotes. However, I remain of the opinion that protesting at an away ground is embarrassing to the club as well as the directors concerned. Using "polis" rather than "police" was my way of being a little tongue in cheek; but I'll know better next time. Thanks.
