  1. You were right there's just no proof.
  2. It's a ludicrous deal; he might be at his peak or just past now but in 2/3 years? and to think about him as a future club ambassador vis-a-vis Gerrard at Liverpool grrrr! I year of Rooney = the value of Rangers FC?
  3. You doubt if you are honest, a man in your position?
  4. Well if that's the case (a) the more fool him and (b) that certainly speaks volumes for his judgement or the lack of it because making such an important announcement without checking the facts yourself leaves you wide open to all the criticism you get.
  5. “Lewis still has the viral thing which will keep him out tomorrow.” This is getting a bit worrying.
  6. When you put 2+2 together it seems clear that contrary to Wallace's AGM statement, we need a cash injection of £1.5M before the season ticket money starts to come in. So it was either sell Wallace (in which endeavour they have counted without speaking to Wallace himself and/or making a proper estimate of his worth on the transfer market) or get a loan of some description. "Short to medium term" cannot conceivably be construed as two months; it might possibly be construed as short term but not medium term which at the very least in my estimation would have to imply 6 months to a year and ordinarily two years plus. So that leaves us with: Wallace deliberately lied; Wallace was misled by the other directors/staff; Wallace did proper investigations and made a mistake(s); Wallace assumed the sale of Wallace and/or the players taking a pay cut or both; the situation has changed in some way. You pays your money and you takes your choice.
  7. OK I have looked it up and get it now; sorry I was never a child and didn't read children's books.
  8. I'll do a bit of research on that but can't guarantee kippers have the same effect on the North Sea as the wolves have on the rivers in Yellowstone National Park.
  9. Is this for real? If so it's quite appalling; whoever signed off and/or placed that add should be sacked immediately.
  10. Agreed. It is arguable that the analogy was generic and a bit long winded and I did find myself wondering how and when he was going to link it to Rangers v Stenhousemuir; but as I said earlier it is one of the best pieces of writing I have read on here and a very hard act to follow, which is why I was asking if there are any wolves in the neighbourhood of Arbroath.
  11. The web site is up and running http://www.rangersfirst.org.
  12. You will be able to very soon through the new CIC Scheme see http://www.rangersfirst.org Please see this thread http://www.gersnetonline.co.uk/vb/showthread.php?61883-Report-of-first-meeting-of-Rangers-CIC-Working-Group
  13. I think that you and your second group of friends are unduly pessimistic. The only thing that's certain right now is that Celtic will win 3 in a row; 4 or 5 perhaps till we get back on our feet; but 10, I very much doubt it. I think they will find next season in particular very difficult financially: high wages, falling attendances, quite possibly no CL money; a downward spiral perhaps. Sure they will be way ahead of us for 2/3 years, perhaps 4 or 5; but another 8 from here?
  14. I haven't seen them blown up so I will accept what you say. However, please see #25.
  15. Found this as well attributed to RE: THE EDITOR OF “THE RANGERS HISTORIAN" REPLIES:- “It was good to know that Jim Forrest (a near-neighbour of mine) confirmed what I knew to be fact. “However one point should be emphasised - the wording on the blazer badges has no relevance to the club's official motto. “Originally the motto was 'AYE WORK AWA', which was then changed to 'READY AYE READY', subsequently shortened to 'AYE READY' and finally in 1966 to 'READY'. “The change in 1966 was explained as being a modernising move, but in fact it was so that the badge could be legally incorporated. I” have explained all of this more than once on the 'FF messageboard and on various Rangers internet lists - must say I am mystified why the debate continues. “Regards “Robert McElroy” http://forum.rangersmedia.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=203835&st=100 That seems to confirm what I surmised, namely that the offical motto was indeed "aye ready" and that a shorter version was used on badges etc and perhaps the crest on the stand ends.
  16. It is a bit confused in places http://www.followfollow.com/news/tmnw/aye_ready_200064/index.shtml but I took him to mean that he confirmed that the crest on the end of the stand said "aye ready" but his blazer badge said "ready". 'I think someone was to 'do' the badge and it 'became' 'Ready'.
  17. Well he's quoted as saying "The change in 1966 was explained as being a modernising move, but in fact it was so that the badge could be legally incorporated". There are some great pictures here, quite a few of which show the crest on either side of the main stand; perhaps someone with the necessary skills and software can blow them up (the pictures, not the stand). http://forum.rangersmedia.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=258942
  18. Your explanation sounds entirely plausible but here again I must admit that I always understood "aye ready" to mean always ready, which sounds to me like a good motto for a football team. Of course that doesn't mean that one explanation is right and the other is wrong; the correct derivation may be lost in the sands of time. For example some historians say that Robert E Lee's description of the North Carolinians as tar heels is derived from the tar on railroad tracks others say it is the tar on ship decks; no one really knows which is correct and unfortunately the General Commanding the Army of Northern Virginia isn't around to let us know. I don't think there's any doubt that "aye ready" was the motto at some point but exactly what it meant and exactly when it was changed seem to be a bit of a mystery. Anyway, I have sent Robert (McElroy) a text and asked if he can shed any more light on it.
  19. I also found this interview with Jim Forrest: PS: 'I note your Rangers blazer with badge, was it 'Ready' when you were there?' JF: 'It was.Ready then and Ready now.Ready was on the badge when I first signed at Rangers and it was on,when I got my first player's blazer ' PS: 'Do you remember what was on the side of the Main Stand though?' JF: ' Well that was 'Aye Ready, yes I remember that. The club stuck with plain 'Ready' for the badge on the blazers though.Officially it was just 'Ready' and they stuck with that and later everybody knew it has just 'Ready'. KS: ' I remember it on the Main Stand in the 50s and 60s,so you DID see it? Many now doubt it was painted there, especially on 'Follow Follow' ...(message board-a plug!) ' JF: 'Yes it was there,I saw it everyday. It got changed though about the time I was there,1964,65.Why?,well 'Ready' was being used on everything.Suppose it could have been 'Aye Ready',but somewhere somebody changed it & it became 'Ready'. http://www.followfollow.com/news/tmnw/aye_ready_200064/index.shtml
  20. I am in no doubt that when I first started watching Rangers in the late 50's/early 60's the motto was "aye ready". I remember having a badge that said "aye ready" and being quite indignant when it changed to just "ready". That said, I have looked back to the earliest wee blue book that I have which is from season 1962/63 and the crest only says READY in block caps. That is also how it is shown on the crest on the cover page of Rangers the New Era which was published in 1966. However, I have found this on yahoo: Originally the motto was 'AYE WORK AWA', which was then changed to 'READY AYE READY', subsequently shortened to 'AYE READY' and finally in 1966 to 'READY'. The change in 1966 was explained as being a modernising move, but in fact it was so that the badge could be legally incorporated. And this on another site: "A circular club badge was adopted in 1959 and featured a lion rampant, an old-style football and the club's motto Ready, which was shortened from Aye Ready (meaning Always Ready in Scots), all surrounded by the team name, Rangers Football Club. The circular badge was modernised in 1969; the lion rampant, team name, club motto and old style football all remained. The modern circular badge is regularly used on club merchandise and by the media; it has never featured prominently on the club strip" which would bear out the fact that it had already been changed in the 1962 book. This is from http://www.followfollow.com/sngl/ed23/ibrox_stadium_section/index.shtml Article by farley1968 Updated Saturday, 24th February 2007 The main façade on Edmiston Drive is in redbrick with art deco and neo-classical features. On each corner in blue and gold mosaic is the Club Crest with the motto "Aye Ready". The pictures aren't there though. I also found this comment and similar on another site: "The change in 1966 was explained as being a modernising move, but in fact it was so that the badge could be legally incorporated" Robert McElroy. (Rangers Historian) More evidence is to be found in the title of this book: Aye Ready: Rangers War Heroes http://www.amazon.co.uk/Aye-Ready-Rangers-War-Heroes/dp/1845023536 The books author Paul Smith refers to "The club’s traditional motto, ‘Aye Ready’" Is it possible that the official motto was "aye ready" but that on some versions of the crest/badges it was shortened to just "ready" and then changed officlaly in 1966 or later?
  21. I can confirm that.
  22. The motto always was "Aye Ready" but was changed when "The scroll crest was replaced in 1959 with the lion rampant club crest which featured a lion rampant, an old-style football and the club's motto Ready, which was shortened from Aye Ready (meaning Always Ready in Scots), all surrounded by the team name, Rangers Football Club." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rangers_F.C. I am confident that I have some of the old Blue Books at home with the Aye Ready crest. You won compo.
  23. Where does he get off telling fans who have been through what we've been through, to "get a grip". How about, I understand the fans concerns and we will be as open as possible in trying to reassure them
