  1. Not quite the phrase I had in mind, but it'll do.
  2. It would have been significantly more expensive and time consuming to try to sack him for cause, especially when we are in such a mess. Did we really want even more of our dirty laundry washed in public? Hopefully there is a confidentiality clause in the severance agreement; that would have been bought at a price, probabaly at least half the total. How much could he get for selling his story? Get real people, it's the cost of doing business and making mistakes.
  3. You missed out the "by mutual agreement"; that "agreement" cost us £300,000.
  4. Call me a puritan if you like (or perhaps it's the ex-referee coming out in me) but I personally do not see the need to use foul OR abusive langauge at all. IMHO points can be much better made with a little judicious use of a dictionary or thesauris. NB: Please delete expletives from any comments!
  5. I think they could but they would all be subject to ratification at the AGM so hardly seems worth upsetting the fans even more than we're upset now. Also why would they, since they are now in more or less complete control of everything? That said, anything can happen in this Easdale in Ibroxland fiasco.
  6. He was probably on a one year rolling contract or similar, would you walk away for less than you were due?
  7. Embarrassing doesn't begin to describe it. We are an absolute laughing stock, ALL the recent directors (with the possible exception of Walter Smith, though he is not entirely blameless) should be ashamed of themselves. We need a complete new Board made up of men of integrity whose modus operandi is to operate in utmost good faith for the sole benefit of Rangers FC; but goodness only knows where they are coming from.
  8. One thing about Mather, he wasn't stupid. Did you expect him to walk away for nothing?
  9. Maybe they were all closet Rangers fans too? NB: Please see edit.
  10. Even if the singing was offensive and I didn't hear any such at the time; it would be impossible to obtain a conviction under the OBA because you couldn't possibly demonstrate that it would "incite public disorder" with all those soldiers around. Who was going to riot, the handful of Stenhousemuir fans in the stadium? That said, I was uncomfortable with some of the soldier's antics and would suggest that a more dignified parade would be in order IF the event is repeated next year. How about some kind of display a la Edinburgh Festival, rather than just running wild all over the pitch?
  11. What I'm struggling to understand is how they managed to achieve almost complete control of the Boardroom in such a short space of time. Did no one else want to work with them or (I'll leave others bolder than me to fill in the phrase) ...................................
  12. A very sensible summary of the current situation IMHO.
  13. Chief Executive perhaps of the Trust, of Rangers??
  14. You know the answer to that, Craig. When they've made a sufficient profit to justify their investment OR, the downside risk (of losing more) is greater than the upside potential (of a recovery in the share price to break even or make a profit.)
  15. Or + or - £1m? i.e. to the nearest million; so could be nothing at all?
  16. I agree it can be done, my question is WHY would anyone do it?
  17. Why would anyone in their right mind put money up for Whyte?
  18. "Mutual agreement" means just that. More than likely the conversation went something like this: JE/SE - Yer past yer sell by, Craig, gotta go. CM - Sure boys, what's it worth? JE/SE - Let's say six months salary. CM - Let's say - 6 months salary plus a bonus for winning the diddy league 3rd division. JE/SE - Let's call it £300k CM - Agreed, where do I sign.? If Stockbridge goes it will be a similar process. They are the only Executive Directors, so would be the only ones entitled to compensation for loss of office, unless the Club (read Easdales) choose to sack Stockbridge for cause and take a chance in court. The Easdales themselves and Smart are non-executives, so wouldn't be on a salary that would be negotiable on termination but may well have other agreements for fees and bonuses etc. According to Out-Law.com: Levels of remuneration for non-executive directors should reflect the time commitment and responsibilities of the role – provision D.1.3 of the Corporate Governance Code. Many companies accordingly break NEDs’ fees down into: a basic fee; additional fees for committee membership (eg remuneration or nomination committee); further fees for the responsibility of chairing a committee.
  19. One person I know it's not is might be John Greig; but I'm still going for Big Tam.
  20. Front three: Jackson, Jardine, Forsyth?
  21. as in quality or as in quantity? Any names you want to share?
  22. I'm a bit out of touch as I've been out of the country four of the last five weeks and can't believe everything that's happened in this period; but as far as MEB is concerned, I have mentioned before that he is a director of Vicast Ltd, a media company, as is Paul Murray (and John McClelland - what happened to him coming back as Chair?) and another former Ibrox colleague Nicola Young and his right hand woman, the formidable Jaquie Gourlay. If PM gets on the Board, then I wouuldn't bet against MEB coming with him at least in the short term and bringing his staff with him. Long term would depend on how well Vicast is doing. I know there are strong opinions on Bain's complicity or otherwise in the previous financial meltdown; but one thing that he will always have in his favour in my book is that he stood up to SDM with the due diligence to show that the Whyte bid was flawed and ultimately it cost him his job. So a man of honour in my book and that's something that seems to be sadly lacking in recent times (though Mather and Smart may just have joined the club).
  23. Can someone please enlighten me, who is this Chris Graham, who seems to be revered by many? I have never heard of him. Is that his real name or a pseudonym? Does he now or has he held any official position withinin any fan's organisation or does he aspire to one?
  24. I am surprised at these comments from you BD, since I am sure you are well aware that offensive behaviour at football matches is defined in the Act as follows: 1 Offensive behaviour at regulated football matches (1) A person commits an offence if, in relation to a regulated football match— (a) the person engages in behaviour of a kind described in subsection (2), and (b) the behaviour— (i) is likely to incite public disorder, or (ii) would be likely to incite public disorder. (2) The behaviour is— (a) expressing hatred of, or stirring up hatred against, a group of persons based on their membership (or presumed membership) of— (i) a religious group, (ii) a social or cultural group with a perceived religious affiliation, (iii) a group defined by reference to a thing mentioned in subsection (4), (b) expressing hatred of, or stirring up hatred against, an individual based on the individual’s membership (or presumed membership) of a group mentioned in any of sub-paragraphs (i) to (iii) of paragraph (a), © behaviour that is motivated (wholly or partly) by hatred of a group mentioned in any of those sub-paragraphs, (d) behaviour that is threatening, or (e) other behaviour that a reasonable person would be likely to consider offensive. (3) For the purposes of subsection (2)(a) and (b) it is irrelevant whether the hatred is also based (to any extent) on any other factor. (4) The things referred to in subsection (2)(a)(iii) are— (a) colour, (b) race, © nationality (including citizenship), (d) ethnic or national origins, (e) sexual orientation, (f) transgender identity, (g) disability. For the purposes of subsection (1)(b)(ii), behaviour would be likely to incite public disorder if public disorder would be likely to occur but for the fact that— (a) measures are in place to prevent public disorder, or (b) persons likely to be incited to public disorder are not present or are not present in sufficient numbers. I don't understand the reference to Penny Arcade, which is a song about playing slot machines. The fact that it is sung at Ibrox and begins with the line "Blue Turned into Green, then it was Red" doesn't make it a Rangers song, nor could it remotely be considered offensive to anyone including the mythical "reasonable person" on the no.9 Clapham Omnibus or the First Bus no. 43 to Parkhead for that matter (if there are any reasonable people who travel on that bus). (Just for information I did argue this point at the time. I told the Minister, Roseanna Cunningham that in my opinion the "reasonable person" test was unreasonabale in the context of Scottish football, but she did not agree.) That said I didn't hear any offensive songs at all on Saturday, not even the usual ones with the offensive word versions omitted.
