The Winter 2018/19 - Transfer Window Rumours and Deals - Thread

Are Rangers genuinely interested in signing Davis ? Has there been any confirmation? I’d take him on loan til the end of season on his £60k p.w. Southampton wage then at the end of the season decide whether to offer him a contract -

Not sure I’d agree on that one. He’s had some fairly ineffective performances but today was his best in a Rangers jersey. Long may that continue -
The biggest challenge we’ll face in this transfer window is keeping our current squad together. We now have players who could fetch us decent transfer fees should we wish to sell. Proof we’re heading in the right direction at last

At the start of the season SG’s top priority was to get us challenging for the title. Today proved he is achieving that & more. I cannot remember such a one-sided game against them since beating them 5-1 back in 2000. -

I’ve been a critic of Jack but I hope today marked the day he truly arrived as a Rangers player -

Much will depend how we line up tomorrow. I might be tempted to stick 4 in MF & go for 4-4-1-1. It’s vital we don’t get overrun in MF -
Loans are fine if there’s a buy option at the end of the loan at a pre-agreed price.

Graham Shinnie is nowhere near the calibre of player we need if we’re to seriously challenge for the title. He is an SPL journeyman. Nothing more. -

I believe we’re allowed 5 loan-signings. At present we’ve got 3 loanees: Kent, Coulibally & Worrall. Ejaria & Sadiq have either left or leaving. That would allow us to make 2 loan signings next month should we wish to do so -

I don’t think we will sign Tom Eaves who is an EFL1 player. We need better than that -

Unfortunately I do believe we may sell Morelos next month & replace him with Solanke(on loan) & recall Hardie from Livi. My other guess is we’ll get Steven Davis on loan from Southampton for the final months of his contract there. Just guesswork. But these signings would improve us in my opinion -
The issue I’ve got with our 4-3-3( which is one up front & two wide men with three in MF) is that our three in MF ( other than Arfirld when fit) don’t score enough goals. Regards the three today only Coulibally has scored this season. Jack & McCrorie haven’t scored yet although to be fair to McCrorie he hasn’t had as many games as the others. Both widemen today(Middleton & Candeias) have got on the scoresheet a few times so they’ve contributed. Morelos has, of course, been brilliant but can’t be expected to do it all on his own
-
Agree one or two players were disappointing today but I think you’re going OTT. Who have we got fit & not playing that are better than them? It will, in my opinion, take 2 or 3 transfer windows(under the same manager) until we will be serious title challengers. And there will be unsuccessful signings during this time. No doubt about that. Second half today I thought we were the better team but missed 2 or 3 good chances until they equalised. Until then McGregor had little to do in the second half

I thought Katic did well when he came on today. Handled the always-fouling Kamberi well. -
I think it was always going to be extremely difficult to win the title in SG’s first season given the mess he inherited. He’ll need 2 or 3 transfer windows to get us up to the level where we’re title challengers.

We need 2 or 3 additions next month whether loans or permanent signings. And they must be signings that can go straight into the starting XI & make a difference

EBTs worse than child rape: Alex Thomson (Channel 4)

EBT’s weren’t illegal. It was specifically stated in the summing up at the SC. No one was arrested over EBT’s. Child abuse however..... Over to you AlexThomson -

I wonder if today will mark a significant turning point in SG’s managerial reign here. Playing two up front made such a big difference to the way we played today. We certainly wouldn’t have won the way things were going until Lafferty came on. But will he now continue with two up front ? And, if so, what will the formation will be ? 4-4-2 ?3-5-2 ? I’m sure SG will look back at last season when firstly Pedro then Murty were in charge & both stuck rigidly to one up front. Both ultimately failed(although this not the only reason of course) and as a result got axed. My own view is with this squad we’re not quite good enough to play one up front especially when teams ‘park the bus’. Wedneday’s team selection will be interesting. -

SG now has to find a system to accommodate 2 up front. Both Pedro & Murty couldn’t manage it last season. It would probably mean a 4-4-2 or 3-5-2. I’ve always favoured the 3-5-2 especially when we’re at home & the opposition park the bus. -

Hmmm..not sure I’d agree with you on that one Ian. He was understandably short of match practice & it showed at times. Hopefully theHibs game will help him get up to speed because I don’t think we’ll have Barasic available again til next month -
I thought Borna Barasic looked a real class act tonight. Little wonder there’s rumoured interest in him already

Whittaker is there for the taking. Need to get Grezda running at him more often

Reading some of SG ‘s comments after the game today I suspect he was highly unimpressed with Lafferty. Can’t say I blame him. He was truly awful today
