  1. The Rangers Sports Day was a mid-summer event attracting entries from world class athletes with a five-a-side football tournament to swell crowds to 30,000 + Ibrox was also the venue for Glasgow City Police Sports earlier in summer. As you say, BH, first team (blues) v reserves (reds) was the big pre-season event again with crowds at ver 30,000
  2. Looks like reds v blues pre-season. The hero in the middle about to be toppled by Harold is Sammy Baird. The other chap looks like Willie Telfer. If so that's a life-threatening situation for Sammy. Just as well he was a hardy lad himself.
  3. "It seems, going by the deductions made here, that this position is one not necessarily of coaching, but more about the local knowledge on opponents, grounds, stadia, etc, and that therefore communication skills should be at the fore for any successful candidate." TB at #73 above. I think that's right. Pedro needs someone who can tell him what it's like at a mid-week match at Kilmarnock - the ground, the pitch, what it's like if Rangers go ahead or behind, the opposition, how they normally play, who their hard man is, who can control the play etc. If he stays he'll get to know all that himself so it's a short term position and it would be helpful if the incumbent could do some coaching. Failing McCann, my preference from the purported nominations is Lovenkrands. A formal coaching qualification may not be necessary for the job.
  4. The vast number of scribblers committing this and other crimes of ignorance probably justifies a small tactical nuclear weapon.
  5. When I rule the world, journalists will be shot for use of the word in "snub" in this context. If he was not considered for selection, that is not a snub. If he was considered but another was preferred that is not a snub either.
  6. Strachan played for Dundee. The United side was a top team. Nearly perfect balance. The little guy Payne was indeed a regular pain to Rangers. Don't forget the glamour centre forward Davie Dodds. On looks alone I thought he was a cert for a move to Serie A most likely joining the coiffed and bronzed fashionisti of AC Milan. Jesting apart, he could play an old time centre forward game very well. Then there was the other goal scorer, Andy Gray. Whatever happened to him?
  7. Another Fan Board has two separate suggestions that Barry Ferguson is the new no. 3. Not a good idea imho.
  8. "It being 2016, it is de rigeur to take the positives out of everything." It used to be, but times have changed, Uilleam.
  9. Armstrong's a cracking player. The least vaunted of the migration from DU but he's the only success. No chance of getting him.
  10. The Albion back on the rails confounding their critic i.e. myself.
  11. I think he meant fortune in general rather than that particular bench of judges.
  12. Town thrashed by Bristol City and Wednesday beaten at home. I reckon they're out of it now.
  13. West Brom 0-2 Arsenal (lost faith in the Albion) Crystal Palace 2-0 Watford Everton 2-0 Hull (assuming no adverse Lukaku reaction) Stoke 0-2 Chelsea (the champs won't ease up) Sunderland 1-2 Burnley West Ham 2-1 Leicester Bournemouth 1-2 Swansea Middlesboro 0-3 Man Utd Tottenham 3-1 Southampton Man City 2-2 Liverpool
  14. A better morning than yesterday but in all honesty what the hell do I know?
  15. Our lead striker, BH. Get Dunlop back on, I say. Best 40 minutes since Ian McMillan
  16. We've brought a striker off the subs' bench, Dunlop. Doing well so far but can he turn it round for us?
  17. I suppose having played for the weasels he might have inside information.
  18. If I were President of the Supreme Court I'd say I was persuaded by the reasoning and eloquence of Revenue Counsel and not convinced by the Appellants' Counsel. On the other hand, this is the Rangers and WATP, so the Appeal is upheld and mon the 'Gers. That's one of many, many reasons why I'm not President of the SC. Seriously, this stuff is 'way over my head but the revenue guy was helluva good. The body language of the judges, especially Hodge looked ominous.
  19. It means she will follow the majority opinion. If it's divided two for and two against God knows what she'll do. Actually, what she'll do is work it out for herself. A woman of formidable intellectual capacity.
  20. I'm not liking this. Lord Hodge is against us.
  21. Stewart has done his job. Between the sticks is the only non disaster area of the park. Foderingham hasn't matched the prowess of his illustrious predecessors but he's not too bad. Bell was the only failure.
  22. Leicester have performed magnificently in the CL, considerably better than some much-vaunted sides bombed out early in the proceedings. Juventus will be the end of the road for them. Forza Bianconeri.
  23. [The victim*keeps asking them: "Are you British or Irish?" The woman retorts: "You’re asking us why we are in the country because we are Celtic fans?" The woman replies: "We're both*Scottish so pipe down." ] Assault is not justified but assuming that narrative is correct, if the victim were my son and he came home greeting I'd have told him he was asking for it.
