One thing we've been really good at - all the way through from the beginning of Ally's reign of terror - is talking a good game
-
We were - and it's true for the first and last of this phantom 6 too, in effect if not in fact. In the first we were beset by outside catastrophe - it was not a fight on the pitch. In the last, we had no chance coming up from the lower leagues, none at all. If truth be told, their first (not the first) 9iaR is the greatest achievement. We started that period with - and intermittently throughout it had - wonderful teams. Teams pretty much their equal and very much so in a couple of years. Also other Scottish teams were powerful (as evidenced by Euro results). The best Rangers team I've ever witnessed fell just - agonisingly just (and a dodgily late goal at Morton was the difference) behind them.. soon afterwards we went into the last game of the season unbeaten and still they edged it. Those were epic battles of giants. The loss of Baxter having tipped the balance. For all Stein's moral failings, he won a 9iaR against the odds, he sure knew how to play the system as well as the game. We fell apart - sacking Symon & Whyte unfairly and Barcelona obscures how rank we were at home at that time - but that was because of the two near losses in the late 60s. Septic caused our fall as it were, by beating us when we were great and making us sack Symon and Whyte, completely against our traditions, and when we should not have. They were real challengers under that other moral degenerate, Burns, but that was later, they didn't start "great" as we did, they were just trying to stop 9iaR. Other than that we weren't properly challenged (f@@@ Aberdeen), Souness leaving's shock aside which caused the Motherwell debacle. We won some seasons while dropping a ludicrous amount of points as it was just too easy. The first real 9iaR (10 really) that isn't counted due to the war - we were so far ahead that it's a shame - though nothing in the light of what was happening to the world - that our team then is not accorded what would have been total domination.

Graham Spiers launches disgusting attack on Rangers' Chaplain
SteveC replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
That's got to be some sort of record, even for Spiers. -
I added a PS. RTV are advertising it. https://rangers.co.uk/tv/ HD - my, my. bit ambitious since they struggle with verySD "
-
Oh if RTV are showing it then I am fine......buffering aside And they are - HURRAH! I thought I'd read that it was only available in the one place.
-
Thanks Ian though it does not sound particularly straightforward - 5 days notice for Sky customers, unknown for Virgin and a month's subscription rather than a game's subscription. They are almost encouraging dodgy streams!
-
Or the shorter version: "in Scotland Rangers fans are frowned on."

Very impressive, especially when you think back to less than full houses for huge past Euro games with us having star studded squads, well done to the Bears.

Club1872 become 2nd biggest shareholder as Mike Ashley leaves the building
SteveC replied to pete's topic in Rangers Chat
Even if this were true, (it may just be a piece of advertising again playing loose with the definition of "fan", one suspects,) it is not "8 or 9 million", not even "approx" 8 or 9 million. -

I don't think that is "approx", not unless 'fan' is defined in the loosest of loose terms. (So loose as to no longer mean "fan", in fact.) -

Portugal - including Bruno Alves about to kick off on ITV 4. Him linking up with Ronaldo will give us a taste of....oh wait -
Yes, George Taylor.

Julian Wolhardt said, “I am delighted to become an RIFC shareholder. I have a long held love for Scotland and football and I am keen to see Rangers FC unlock its considerable commercial potential. With the successful restructuring of the retail operations, RIFC is now on a firm financial footing and I look forward to being a part of its exciting future.” https://rangers.co.uk/news/headlines/chairmans-welcome/

Well I am a member so that I help to buy shares. I also have been desperate for us to get rid of Ashley. Consequently, I'm quite happy with this - ecstatic, even. I'm not sure how anyone could expect to have got rid of the leech for absolutely free. Now, the "Fighting Fund" I persuaded my old mum to invest in that has fought/will fight hee haw......... etc. -
I know that I'm getting on a bit and thank you for putting it so politely The site's great, I love it. Except when people disagree with me - so I'd like a rule to stop that abhorrent behaviour. Other than that - perfect.
-
Cheers, I'll take that as either a "yes" or "well done, good guess" Probably too soon, to celebrate, but it has been such a long road and if the the last and fattest vulture is finally going, then this captures it well:
-
I can't really see how anyone would think it not worth it in the circumstances.

RFC negotiate new 12 month retail deal with Sports Direct
SteveC replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
I'm just home from a trip to Nottingham and catching up. At first I was excited but now I am wondering what the catch is - Obviously I hope that there isn't one but with us I always fear. I will await Gersnet official memo telling me that it is now definitely OK to buy,,,,,,,,,,,,,, -

Thanks Cdoug - I'm avoiding watching the footage of any of them. It can be very misleading. I'm just awaiting on the season starting - and I've not got long to wait. -

I know, and obviously that is more exciting. I was, however, answering the question: "Has there ever been a good player emerged from Finnish football?" -

Jari Litmanen, Sami Hyppia spring to mind. I'm a bit biased, though.
