I had it in my head we spent £2m + on him. Even if we were in the SPL I doubt we'd get more than £1m.

Not only can we not improve the basics but our whole attitude with these young guys is so wrong. They should all be modelling themselves on the likes of Christiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. No drinking, correct conditioning, working not only on technique and cardio but also strength straining to reach optimal ability. Instead we seem to just give players a free reign, they regularly drink and this doesn't seem to be an issue. I'd love a complete overhaul of the club with a foreign manager brought in who could ban alcohol and rebrand the philosophy of the club. The whole of the UK are bad for this to be fair and it's illustrated by the fact none of the home nations ever achieve anything internationally. It doesn't help that our manager takes them all out to get pished 6 days before the biggest match of the season. Pathetic. Get rid of the lost of them. When was the last time Scotland produced a world class player? Could the likes of John Fleck have achieved greatness if he was brought up in a different culture? Even Wales have had Bale and Giggs in recent years. Smaller countries than Scotland seem to produce the odd top player that stands out in one of the big leagues, why do we never manage this? How does a tiny country like Uruguay produce the likes of Suarez and Forlan? Have we had players of that ability in the past 25 years? Even Montenegro seem to produce a few top players and they aren't much bigger than Edinburgh. Our lack of ability isn't genetic, once upon a time we produced top players. The fact is we are just getting everything wrong, kids aren't playing enough, they are getting the wrong coaching and the culture is about 30 years out of date.

All very damning. It is a disgrace what is going on at Ibrox just now. When Ally leaves will he just sack it completely or will he fail elsewhere? I honestly don't think he is fit to manage in the bottom tier of Scottish football. Would another SPL team take a chance on Ally? I'm not sure.

Has any player improved under Ally?

He did say 'by the looks of things', in fairness.

He's pushing 26. Most wingers peak around that age.

How is McKay getting on at Greenock? I'd far rather have him playing than Aird. McKay has talent, Aird doesn't. McKay might be inconsistent but he had a tonne of assists last season.
-
Again, for me he falls into the more consistently poor than anything. I would say he has far more poor performances then good ones. He's better than some though who have good performances once in a blue moon. Undoubtedly he has the the talent but he's not shown enough. For me an inconsistent player is someone who has a mixture of good and bad performances, conversely our 'inconsistent' players seem to just consistently not perform. If a player has a handful of good performances a season can be really be considered inconsistent?

Something else about Stevie Smith is I don't recall him ever being good at set pieces previously. Is this a new thing? He has only scored 2 freekicks in his whole career, both this season. I'm not having a dig at him, it's good to be a threat at set pieces again. Remember the days when we had Gio, Albertz etc all standing over the same dead ball! Even Ferguson, Ricksen and Arteta were very dangerous around the 02/03 era.

It says something that we have signed a player who has done pretty well yet his value has plummeted. Perhaps we paid too much for him but players at our club never seem to have any real value aside from standouts like Ferguson, Boumsong, Cuellar, Hutton etc. IE players that perform to a very high level, often standing out in Europe. Anyone a grade or 2 down from that never seems to be worth anything.

The first half today again dispelled the strange excuse some pedal that these players are not capable of playing anything other than route 1.
-
McCoist clearly instructs the players to play that way. We played some decent stuff in spells of the first half and created quite a few chances. The ball was largely kept on the deck. As soon as the second half started it became clear that Ally had told them to start just launching it into the box. We barely created a single chance in the second half.

I agree Wallace is overrated in our support but I'd still say him and MacLeod are the only two players we have good enough to compete with Celtic. Smith is a middle of the road SPL level player IMO, while Wallace is a good one. In fact did Smith not struggle to be a regular for Aberdeen?
-
The SPL old firm level players we have are MacLeod and Wallace.

The whole clubs needed gutted since the end of 02/03.

I have never rated him. He is a mediocre utility man that never excelled in any position.
-
Why does he still play for us then?
-
Sell Wallace one of our only good players? For what, a million or so that will be swallowed up into the void in no time? We need to be keeping any good players we have for the SPL. We can't afford to buy a whole new team in a year. Also, without the likes of MacLeod and Wallace, promotion to the SPL won't be a certainty. I agree with most of the rest. I would argue Shiels is consistently poor as opposed to 'inconsistent'. The same applies to Aird. I hardly noticed Shiels and Daly playing today. Getting Kris Boyd in is a no brainer as Daly is just as useless outside the box and doesn't score anywhere near as many goals.

We should have been focusing on young players that could be given an easy development process in the lower leagues but c'est la vie. Getting up to the SPL and having to throw cash at a whole new team isn't going to end well.
-
Could we not have just stuck with Scott Gallagher. Given the 'youth' a chance? I say youth but he's actually almost 25 yet has played only 3 times for us.
-
Pace is usually not that important for keepers but he is far too slow to be playing at this level.
-
Who in the starting XI today will be good enough to play for us in the SPL? I would say nobody.
-
Oooh get you

Whyte was the 'sole reason' went went in administration? Who sold the club to Whyte? Who continuously led us into financial destruction? Who weakened us to the point that the bank were able (more like needed) to take control of the club? Who made the club a joke and refused to deal with our detractors? He was an absolute bastard.
