I just cannot credit sides that play his tactics. He has done a good job, Joel Ward is having a great season for them, but the football his sides play repulses me. It might avoid relegation but it will never achieve long term success. Hence why he manages Crystal Palace.

In the first half today we caused endless problems but had nothing up front. Kris Boyd would have got a couple today.

Tony Pulis shouldn't be anywhere near this list, the football he plays is horrible. It would have to be Rodgers or Mourinho. Pellegrini bombed in Europe. Rodgers has been a revelation and Mourinho is masterminding another Champions League success. I would give it to Rodgers, though his side is heavily reliant on SAS and Gerrard. Mourinho is the greatest of all time, he can step aside for this one. PS - Martinez has done an excellent job in fairness. One of the top four need to sign Coleman - he is excellent.

A damning fact about today

To be honest I can't recall a real player Scotland has produced in the last 15 years aside from McGregor and Ferguson. Perhaps Hutton but he's been atrocious since he left us. -
I think anything other than a Liverpool wins gives the title to Man City. They have Aguero back now too who is phenominal. Heard a wee rumour he might be going Chelsea way, my word what a signing that would be.

There's not much between the top half of the SFL1 and the SPL, it's the same in England in fairness. Next year will be a struggle. -

Johnny Russell, one of the most standout players in the SPL and linked with Celtic. Goes to Derby and is absolutely useless. He'll be back in the SPL soon. There's countless examples. -
Arsenal are awful, they bore me. The football was great in the Pires, Bergkamp error but they are a spent force now and signing Kill Kallstrom on loan sums them up
-
I think a Liverpool win could gift the title to Chelsea because they will fuck up and Man City still have Everton away

Regards to the youth vision, as you know you are preaching to the choir. I think the only realistic hope I have for us is Dave King takes over, doesn't splash the cash immediately, loses a couple of titles, builds a sustainable infrastructure based on youth development and cheap talent and then starts reigning supreme again with us picking up a profit and providing a challenge in Europe. A guy can dream eh?

You make a very valid point in that Law has regressed but he's not an old firm level player in the first place regardless of form. He was playing in the lower leagues of England 2 or 3 years ago and it shows. For the level we're at on paper he may have appeared a good signing, but we should have been focusing all our resources on youngsters that could develop and cause a threat to Celtic and lower Europa League sides in the future. I don't even mention the Champions League because I don;'t see us beating anyone in that in the next 10 years.

I would imagine that Eck's unemployment and lack of job offers tells him all he needs to know. Finishing third in a 2 team league will mean he is always remembered though.

A damning fact about today
Ser Barristan Selmy replied to Ser Barristan Selmy's topic in Rangers Chat
I like to draw comparisons with the English league because while I'm a critic of it, it is a very credible setup. That Dundee United team today for me is league 1 level in England. Possibly even League 2. I'm not just basing this on some sort of whimsical belief, I'm looking at all the SPL players who have gone to England and failed in the lower leagues. If our u20's are no better than that lot that we played today, then we should sack them all. I think one thing today proved is there is not a huge gap between the SPL and SFL1 sides. Most of them are a match for Ally though. Were Dundee United a lot better than SFL1 strugglers Raith? No. But both sides were more than a match for us. PS - Macleod is going to get completely ruined under us. A quality player like him will thrive in his correct position. Unfortunately he is shunted out wide and wasted. He deserves more respect than that. As do we. -

The u20's seem to be as good as anyone in Scotland. Why are they not playing? -

Why do the managers we have had in recent memory favour negative, route 1 football? What is it? Do they watch Stoke languishing in the Premiership and think this is the blueprint for success? Do they watch La Liga, Bundesliga, the decent teams in the Premiership, the Champions league? Why not base yourself on what works? What is actually watchable and intelligent? -
Today Dundee United fielded a side with an average age of 23. It's fair to say they will develop and improve. Conversely, our average age was 28. I think the most depressing thing about that is our current squad isn't going to be improving at all. It needs gutted, no long term vision or intelligence has applied. All we can really hope for now is a change of ownership to gut the club from top to bottom. The football is shite, we aren't playing youngsters and the future does not look bright. Also, someone on here suggested that the reason we are not just playing the kids now with nothing to play for was to keep them fit for the cup games. Well we will soon see that this is nonsense. Our average aged squad approaching 30 will saunter on until the end of the season with the club achieving no progression. Dundee United 01 Cierzniak - 30 16 Wilson Booked (Watson - 61' ) - 29 26 Robertson (Gomis - 85' ) - 20 08 Rankin - 30 20 Souttar - 17 05 Gunning Booked - 23 19 Gauld (Dow - 67' ) - 18 06 Paton - 26 21 Ciftci - 22 10 Armstrong Booked - 22 11 Mackay-Steven - 23 Average age: 23 Rangers 1 Simonsen - 35 02 Foster - 28 05 Smith - 28 08 Black Booked - 29 06 McCulloch - 35 03 Mohsni - 26 04 Aird (Clark - 63' ) - 19 07 Peralta Sosa - 25 09 Daly - 31 10 Shiels - 29 11 Law - 26 Average age: 28

The last two defeats are just further evidence of Ally's incompetence. I don't say the word 'proof', because my proof of Ally's incompetence was almost 3 years ago when we got horsed over 4 ties against Maribor and Malmo. In fact I knew Ally was no manager during the Walter era because we were shite then too and no Mourinho or Guardiola would be involved in such degrees of incompetence. If his multi-million pound wage structure cannot deal with shite like Raith Rovers and Dundee United, what will?

I think Aird is useless. I'm all for the youths getting a chance but he's had a chance and there is no player there. I think he'd struggle to get a game for Aberdeen. Also, we should never ever be signing players as poor as Daly, regardless of the league we are in. There is standards to be had at Rangers FC. Peralta did play well today but one good performance doesn't really change my opinion of him. That said, we have wasted a lot of players out of position in the past 10 years. It happened under Eck, Walter and now Ally. They are all similar managers, obviously Walter being the better one. I find Eck and Ally astoundingly similar to be honest, though Ally is worse.

To be honest, it's the general concept that irritates me more than anything. Our footballers shouldn't be drinking at all bar very small amounts. Alcohol is a highly neurotoxic substance that is full of carbs and calories. Most athletes realised this about 30 years ago. There's plenty time to get pished once the football is over. Scottish footballers should be asking themselves why they haven't reached a tournament in almost 20 years. If I was a professional footballer I wouldn't drink a drop. I would be far more interested in achieving glory and putting my name in history.
-
I doubt the likes of Messi, Ronaldo and Murray drink at all. If they do it would be in moderation and all controlled. They are proper athletes, geniuses in their craft. I cannot think of any Scottish footballer fit to be mentioned in the same breath as athletes like them. Notice no Scottish player ever seems to stand out in the Premiership? My old man regularly tells me tales of when a plethora of top Scottish players dominated the English game.

Was thinking today, who would earn more in a week, the whole Dundee United XI or Lee McCulloch?
