to spend five weeks or more selecting a new manager only to come up with Eck is the sort of action that will severely dent the board's credibility -

Where is the Eck talk coming from? If it genuinely has legs, how in the name of tits does the board think it's the way forward? -

I can't decide. At one level, we could have appointed him within days of Pedro leaving so the delay makes it less likely. But equally, we might be just making sure rather than rushing to an appointment. After Pedro, I can't see them going for another left field appointment and it's not like there's anybody who's known (or suspected) to be in the frame who'd be an obviously better fit. A lot of the better known names look over the hill, on a downward trajectory or have built whatever success they've had on spending money we can't give them. So, in short, McInnes still remains the most obvious appointment [and, with my record, a confident prediction like that should see a completely different appointment made this afternoon!] -
The problem is that, in the absence of something solid, folk fill the gap with their own speculation. Unsurprisingly, most of that will be complete mince. But, without getting caught up in agendas, the lack of an apparent direction is slightly concerning.

Ongoing new manager discussion and speculation
Oleg_Mcnoleg replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
On rejecting Rangers' offer of the job, McInnes said "obviously I'd have been proud to manage Rangers but, at the age of 95, I'll probably be dead by the time I've taken a training session. Graham Murty's been a fine interim manager for the last half century but I understand why they're now looking for longer term stability." -

To be fair, I think we're all getting unsettled. At this rate, new species will have evolved and become extinct by the time we've appointed a new manager. -
He signed for us but died before he could take to the field. Played for the club round the corner from me in London, Clapton FC

Don't think Murty wants it the moment. Hope he doesn't get bounced into taking it if he's got doubts. Maybe in the longer term, as part of some proper succession planning (after McInnes is finally persuaded to take over Barca after winning and retaining the champions league with us, for instance). -

It sort of makes a point I've already bored/irritated FF with. But i'm a member here so I can bore/irritate a greater number of people. You can see in the debates we've had about managers over the last few years a bunch of different visions for the club. Warburton was appointed to make us into Ajax, for eg, with an emphasis on a single style of play and a production of players. Pedro was going to make that less tactically naive (I think. I honestly couldn't say for sure). Now, do we want a short term shitkicker who can build a team to boot fuck of opponents (an understandable response to recent games? do we want to utilise the apparent strength of the youngsters coming through? do we want to build a side that can overhaul the tims immediately and worry about the future and possible financial consequences another time. Because we're fans, we want a manager who can do all of these and more simultaneously (suspect the board do too). But I don't think that's possible. So somebody at the club is going to need to be strong enough to define the strategy and stick with it.

We lost in my memory but I drink too much so it's not what it was. I share your concerns but maybe there's no magic bulllet: DM solidifies things over a few years, then we move on again -

You get the feeling that McInnes is going to have to get it sooner or later, just so we don't end up saying 'wish we'd appointed McInnes' every time whoever we did appoint loses a game or two. Personally, I think we could do worse. Can remember his St Johnstone team footballing us to bits a few years ago and he's made Aberdeen more than the sum of their parts which is what you want of a manager. I don't know if he has enough to overhaul Sporting Leprechaun, especially with the tranny shagger in charge, but you'd imagine he'd put some distance between us and the rest. Most of the other names being bandied around are unrealistic, desperate or plain fucking stupid. I will confess to knowing nothing about Preud'homme, who FF has linked strongly. He was a quality keeper in his day but hadn't given him a second thought since the '86 world cup until seeing his name linked this week. -
i'd have given Halliday a run on the left of midfield of late if he'd been available
-
Hmm. In the unlikely event it is him, be interesting to see how he tries to keep players who don't like him in line. I mean, undermining the manager because he speaks foreign and won't pick you just because you're playing like Douglas Bader would never do, would it?

What are we using for cash? As I said in another post: too demanding to be a project, too broke not to be. Is there another club in the world where the gap between expectations and resources is a great?

Feel for the guy and don't place all the blame on him. But, in spite of some promise, he's losing control of the situation. King looked furious after the M'well game. Of course, what the next guy does with a bunch of disgruntled Portuguese and Mexicans who came to Scotland because of him is another matter. Sacking him is a gamble.

Board meeting held earlier today: Caixinha insists he's still in charge
Oleg_Mcnoleg replied to union's topic in Rangers Chat
We've got a club that's too big to be a project but too little money not to be. Increasingly it seems like Pedro's holed below the waterline but it's still not clear what's next. -
you can argue the toss about Pedro, but even his biggest critics can't say he's had any luck at at all. He needed a break and he got that shit. it's prbably done for him

how many black cats and albatross did Pedro kill on his way to work this morning? Not saying he isn't responsible more generally but he must be thinking 'there's something to build on if we can just put this game to bed. Penalty! That'll do for now...fuck. I'll get ma coat'
