Sectarianism in Scotland - The Simpleton's Solace
stewarty replied to Frankie's topic in Rangers Chat
There is no doubt that successive governments in Scotland have failed to tackle sectarianism equitably. Pouring money into organisations such as Nil By Mouth gets them sound good soundbites but doesn't address some of the more substantive issues. Ask anyone who has ever written a policy statement before and the first step is usually to define the area concerned. For any government to do enshrine such policy definitions in law (i.e. what is sectarianism, what songs are deemed offensive, etc) would be extremely difficult given the grey areas outlined by Frankie's post. Therefore, is it any wonder politicians are less than forthcoming on this? To come down on either side would win/lose votes on both sides - and very few politicians enjoy making decisions which lose them votes. Saying that, why would there need to be such definitions? Surely there are sufficient laws in this country which can be enforced which should be able to tackle any unsavoury aspect of the debate? Regardless, if there was such an inherant problem that is as widespread as some would have you believe, politicians would have no choice but to take tougher action. The reality however is somewhat different and the behaviour and treatment of discriminatory behavious by fans of any colour is far from equitable.- 31 replies

Sectarianism in Scotland - The Simpleton's Solace
stewarty replied to Frankie's topic in Rangers Chat
A fine riposte to the ongoing ridiculous and hyperbolic sectarian debate. I had the misfortune of tuning into Radio Clyde last night to hear 'Sean' describe how disgusted he was at 21,000 Rangers fans singing "vile" and "disgusting" songs - and that the poor Celtic fans were saintly in comparison. Irony and perspective are not their friends.- 31 replies

I see Weir as a symbol of Walter's second reign. And a such Ally must surely replace him to provide his own stamp on the team. I have every confidence he will.
-
Yeah, I, um saw that...
-
Is it not Bomber who first spotted Cuellar's potential?
-
Agreed. Or, Walter/Bain has decreed that they will keep a lid on things for the time being to see what comes of the SFA/ Police enquiries. Not a lot, I suspect.

I'm sure the Daily Rhebel article contains an "alleged" quote from Diouf.

Another clear indication that Regan is not fit for the office of Chief Executive. On the one hand he has announced they are carrying out a full investigation into all incidents from last night's game, yet on the other hand has dished out his own withering judgement. We must assume therefore, that the outcome of the investigation will be changed/adjusted/moulded to suit the views of Regan. What a shambles.

Ally McCoist: I'm already identifying signing targets
stewarty replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
I don't think the press will stop asking him these questions but I'd like to see Ally give them a miss. We need to focus on this season. All the chat about next season is all well and good but its too much of a distraction and the more it goes on, the more it is likely to undermine this season's team. -
What a stupid wee man. I hope the lad sues.

Frankie - it was probably from you that I read it!

I was sure I heard he had picked up an injury.

A good formation point someone made on RangersMedia

Sure, confidence is a big factor. I think also its the mental pressure of knowing there are so few options to freshen up the team. I'll bet Walter is regretting the "quality over quantity" press conference from earlier in the season. -
I think McCoist and McDowell have done enough to warrant a go as Manager and Assistant. There is a risk that we will get "more of the same" but if McCoist's playing career is anything to go by, we should not be doubting his ability to cope with adversity. My own view is that McCoist will look to put his own stamp on the team with whatever limited resources are available. It might take a bit of wheeling and dealing with perhaps the likes of McGregor having to move on to free up some finance, but he would get my backing the same as any other new manager would.

The sitting too deep and negative mindset I think stems purely from the team trying to protect and compensate for Davie Weir. For games against Hamilton its not so bad, but its the big games played at a frenetic pace such as the OF that highlight it the most. ALso, if we play against a team with pacy strikers. -
Explain our second goal in that game then?
-
He scored a hat trick in the game v Well and was a class apart. He was a class apart in the Scottish Cup game v Scumtic. He's generally showed more skill and composure than any striker we've had for several years. How short is your memory?
-
Bartley and Bougherra should be the centre half partnership for the rest of the season. But it wont happen sadly.
-
Major surgery required. With the defence sitting so deep to cover Weir, you need the midfield to be taking control. In the last 3 OF games we have not managed to do that. Unless there is a takeover I dont see anything changing significantly. However, if fit I would play Ness and Hutton for a few games given how poorly Davis and Edu are playing at the moment.

I stand corrected, good sir!
-
He hasn't been capped at senior level yet. Hence the speculation.
-
It would be a brave move for him to change at this stage. And if he does, he'll get my backing. We all make mistakes, and if he decides that opting ot play for Ireland at such a young age was in fact a mistake then fair play. I personally think he was badly advised when he was 14/15 which has put him in this position.
