Match Thread [FT] Rangers 2 (Kent 47; Tavernier pen 52) - 2 Celtic
CammyF replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
Posted earlier, I heard Arfield sustained an injury whilst playing with his kids at home New Year's Day. No matter who came on, we should have seen the game out. If we had, no one would be questioning MBs subs. -
Sakala for me - Davies was good, Lundstram was decent and we lost midfield battle when he went off injured. Kents goal was a classic.

I think it's more down to Soutar and Helander not being reliable. -

Alternatively if MB and his staff can get Alfie back to his best, we have a £12-£15M striker on our hands. However, we only paid £1M for him so if he leaves for nothing...... -

We can't move him on if we don't have a buyer and even if we did find one, he doesn't have to go. He'll either see out his contract and leave on a free or he'll sign an extension. -

I thought he played well 2nd half. He bullied their defenders and this allowed Kent and especially Sakala to drive us forward. However he was average (at best) first half. -

But bringing Sands on didn't cost us the victory. It wasn't Sands fault for the equaliser and it wasn't Sands who missed a chance at 2-1 to kill the game. It also wasn't Sands who failed to hit the target with two headers at the end of the 1st half. No matter who MB brought on, we had less than 10mins to see the game out. As for Arfiled, if what I heard yesterday is correct, he was injured whilst playing football at home with his kids. As MB has said since the day he arrived back at the club the fitness levels are shockingly bad and we have to play players who are carrying injuries. This minimises who we can start and who we can bring on to influence games. A worrying trend this season is the opposition seem to score with their only shots on target and this continued yesterday with Celtic having only 2 shots on target. -

Not matter his nationality or if he's an international, who's paying money for a player who is injured (or unfit) and uninterested and who can leave for nothing in the summer? -

Yip - to many fans "fixated" with the subs rather than the real issue. That is we conceded two very poor goals today and that's what caused us not to win the game. -

Do we just magic up a buyer? Who's gonna take him if he is unfit? -
Heard today it was the council who objected to the display after the "pyros" at the Hibs game. I asked about the rumoured altercation outside Ibrox yesterday but haven't heard the real story. Wonder of the next GB display will be pulled at last minute as there are pyros in their section every home game. As you say the timing of the announcement was strange.

Weirdly I went along to Ibrox today more concerned on what type of performance we would see rather than worrying about the result. If I'm honest, I was expecting a bad performance and a bad result. This appeared to be on the cards after we gave away a sloppy early goal. I then expected the players heads to drop and for Celtic to run all over us (as they've done at Parkhead recently). So hats of to the players for dragging themselves back into the game, then to get themselves in front. We couldn't see the game out and whilst fingers will be pointed at Beale's subs, players concentration etc, I believe the most important fact is we are short in fit players to bring on from the bench. Whilst I'd have been delighted to walk away with the 3 points, on reflection, the performance was good and result not the worst. As for "turning the corner", I think it's still too early to say either way. We have done well since Beale came in, but the manager has said there is still a long way to go. Getting players back fit and getting a couple of signings in January will help. What I will say, under the previous manager, we may have won the previous four league games (but probably wouldn't have) but we would not have gotten a point today, we'd have been heavily beaten. -

Manager said post match that's he is looking for 2 or 3 in January. Add that to Lawerence, Colak, Roofe, Hagi, Soutar all nearing fitness, there will be more "bodies" available. Be interesting to see if the board back Beale or will it be loans and bargain basement gambles. -

Combination of errors beginning with Alfie playing a blind ball back into the defensive area. Something he is guilty of most games. Tav should have cleared the danger, but it was Alfies bad pass that caused the goal. -

After the horrendous start it would have been easy for is to capitulate but we stuck together and pulled ourselves back into the game, then we managed to get ahead. It would have been fantastic if we had managed to see it out, but we didn't. Combination of reasons for drawing the game but most evident is the subs / squad. We need to get players back fit and also add quality in the next couple of transfer windows. Kents goal worth the admission money alone and Tav showed great composure with the pen. -

Some positives to take from the game. Still lots of work for MB to do especially on the defensive side of the game. Big opportunity to cut the gap but if we're honest, the league was gone before today. -

Shot ourselves in the foot by gifting them an early goal. We've created a couple of chances and Hart had a good save from Kent. We are too slow and ponderous it takes us 3 passes to get the ball wide or forward. The only positive is we are still in the game but must score the next goal. -

I'd be more worried that Rangers are monitoring these forums 😃

How can the Police determine who we allow into our stadium the night before a game? Why haven't our board communicated the reasoning behind this decision and why they believe a UB TIFO would be a "public safety issue" or whatever reason Polis Alba have given? More spinelessness from our board - they really don't give a feck about us (as shown by the "access and exit" procedures for tomorrow's game). I also note Celtic fans will be able to access and exit the stadium as they please. No getting them into the ground 1hr prior to kick off and no holding them after the final whistle. Treated better by Rangers and Polis Alba than Rangers fans.

Wonder if the away fans will experience vigorous searches whilst entering Ibrox? Add this to the email I've just received from Rangers regarding accessing and exiting the stadium, it's amazing that 700 away fans won't be "inconvenienced" for the sake of 50,000 away fans. Now compare this to the way we are treated as away fans at Parkhead. Another masterpiece of customer satisfaction from our board.

I know they are not everyone's cup of tea, but they bring colour, noise and unwavering support. Video of their amazinf 15 year display (well three displays) at Ibrox against Hibs.

Oh agreed - but only one reason St Johnstone have agreed to give us 3 stands.
