When I come back to Glasgow I am really quite shocked about the amount of litter overall. I must admit when I first moved to Holland I also threw litter on the ground with the motto I am keeping someone in a job. Just to hit the youth topic and the much loved Dutch system. Many think the Dutch league is dire at the moment because there are too many youth players playing. Ajax played a game recently with all 5 midfielders being 18 years of age. they lost and probably have thrown away any chance of winning the league. when and how to develop youth will always be debatable and always hold different levels of success.

Yes I would love the job. The fact I have lost 3 very close colleagues in a 4 year period because they felt under production pressure makes me err on the safe side I am afraid. Ian you would be surprised how many professional tradesmen every day gamble with their lives, eyesight, hearing and general health just to get a job done quickly.

I would even go as far as saying the first person on site should be a safety officer. Pity I am so far away as I am now temporarily out of work.

It is not just about insurance Ian. Insurance is paid out after an accident happens. It is about making sure the up most is done to stop accidents happening. Making sure people are sufficiently trained for the work they are doing. Making sure general safety practices are followed and not set aside to avoid costs or time. There are British and European standards that have to be met and if they are not followed and an accident does happen then it is possible someone will be taken to court with the possibility of a jail sentence. With yo working on the rigs I am sure you are pretty well up on safety procedures.

I hope Health and Safety will be put at a high level as the last thing we need is an industrial accident. The health and Safety board and the media will be down on us like a ton of bricks. Unfortunately it is not just as simple as sticking a paint brush in someone's hand.
