  1. Seeing as we only have 15 players that fall into that category, two of whom are keepers, I don't think this will happen very often. We've averaged three under 24 starts in our games this season (plus a load of subs including three 22 year olds in the last game), so this seems like a bit of a one off. Besides, it sounds a bit of an angry bruiser of a game with lots of bookings, would our youngsters have coped and still comfortably brought home the points and stayed injury free? Sounds to me like Ally got it fairly right and protected young Lewis.

    Imagine

First line in their story is: CELTIC fans were attacked again
  3. I'm not blaming the MC council for not cleaning up that night, it's an overnight job and as I said, they start at 4am in Edinburgh. I blame them for leaving it a few days and then complaining about it and using it to make us look bad after our fans spent millions of pounds there. Here's NY after NY. God those New Yorkers are a disgrace...
  4. One thing that rankles me is the complaints about the mess that is left behind after these events, which also seems to be included in this piece. The pictures of the aftermath of the Manchester final was pure propaganda as the real culprits were the city council who didn't organise a clean up. You will see the exact same type of mess after any New Years celebration in a large city - but the likes of Edinburgh have an army of people who start cleaning it up at about 4am and finishing before 8am leaving the city centre back to normal before people have got out of bed. It's not actually a football phenomenon and certainly not a Rangers one.
  5. It's one way to look at it, while many think competition for places makes players play better. Perhaps it depends on confidence... I think Peralta will have the usual central/south American trait of taking time to adapt to our game and culture. I think it's too early to judge someone from that part of the world. It seems to be one of those things.
  6. I do sometimes wonder why our players don't use a bit of skill to beat a man or two a lot more. They may not be Gazza's or Laudrup's class but the opposition is a bit lower which should allow some of our more flair players a bit of freedom to show their chops - especially when we're a couple of goals up. I would love to have Vladimír Weiss right now as I thought he was too much of a risk taker for the CL but would be a joy to watch in our current league. The question is, why can't a couple of our players do that? Or is it coached out of them?
  7. 2146 less attending according to here: http://www.fitbastats.com/rangers/club_records_league_attendance.php That's a drop of about 4.7% and was not surprising given the "middle year" status of this season. You might find the watching the football horrendous, but by all accounts it was worse last year, so if "watchability" is an over-riding factor, shouldn't the attendances have actually gone up this season?
  8. So pulling numbers out of the air are we? You're saying our opponents have the budget of the order of £6-8 per annum? Although, I forgot, on another thread you didn't believe the official accounts. What exactly is the number you put on Ally's wage budget? You seem to think it's about £100 billion. It's hard to say how Ally would do on a average League One budget until he actually does it, but that is a made up criticism that could apply to most Rangers managers. How would Advocaat have done on it? And is it actually relevant? Many managers who do well with small budget, get a job at a big club and then fail. Ally had a much smaller budget than Celtic plus, massive off the pitch problems and still out performed them until the outside influences got the better of him. I really don't see the point of making up failure conclusions based on no evidence about Rangers managers just because they have won every game with larger budget than the opposition. The bigger budget comes with the territory and if you're not comfortable with it, perhaps you'd be better off supporting a provincial club. You would then see exactly how well your manager is doing. You seem to want us to become a provincial side in another post, which to me, is unfair to the rest of us. I find some Rangers fans very strange: 15 wins in a row and the conclusion is that the manager is shit... McCoist really is on a hiding to nothing.
  9. For some reason I got it in my head was the Falkirk game... A league game does make a bit of a difference, especially when 14 points ahead. However, we suddenly seem to have a few injuries...
  10. I can see that it's annoying and that some people have supreme confidence in our squad (and manager? ) but I think we should leave some of those words for something a bit more substantial. I remember seeing a comedian who said he'd started raising his eyebrows when he talked to people as he was told he looked more attentive and intelligent that way, but found his problem was that he had nowhere to go when he wanted to look surprised...
  11. I remember the last time we played without a full squad - we went out of the cup... I don't think we're as strong as people make out. People talk of a massive squad but I don't ever remember it being this small.
  12. I've now looked at the Aberdeen financial report and they don't isolate the figure for players wages that I can find.
  13. As well as what? Ironically, I've already cited a couple of references for my figures so why the rudeness? You seem to be having a go for the sake of it while being unable or unwilling to add to the actual point of discussion. If you don't like the figures, as I've already said, provide them yourself. I'll be happy to be corrected with accurate information. I don't really have the inclination or personality type to research it exhaustively myself. Rangers are a hobby, not a job. The reference for the £7.8m is from the Daily Mail given above, and I emphasised its dubious provenance and acknowledged it may not be correct. But I've also read that figure in many places eg: http://sport.stv.tv/football/clubs/rangers/241983-ally-mccoist-defends-high-salary-and-says-wage-cut-not-linked-to-accounts/ http://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/rangers/mccoist-we-are-now-starting-to-motor-137952n.22305035 http://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/spfl-lower-divisions/rangers-rebel-group-deceiving-fans-says-mather-1-3119523 and thought I remembered it from the accounts so it seems close. I even qualified it with "something like". In fact, I've just looked up the accounts and they agree with my figure: http://www.rangers.co.uk/images/staticcontent/documents/AnnualReport2013.pdf So tell me, what is the REAL figure?
  14. "Shameful", "embarrassing", "cowardly", "disgraceful", "pish", "poor show", "joke", "disgrace". Maybe you don't like the decision but surely that's a bit over the top...? I thought we wanted a good run in this cup?
  15. I explicitly said my figures might not be correct and it seems I misinterpreted the Aberdeen costs. But I think it's obvious that we're comparing player costs, so don't really get the obfuscation of the point by including our total staff costs, especially when there are some are grossly inflated. If you qualified it, I'd have understood it more, but I think the right thing to do would have been to state the correct Aberdeen and Rangers team costs. The rest of the wages don't make the same impact on the pitch. That £16m goes down to something like £7.8m for player only costs which is the actual domain of discourse. Besides the current season is the one we want to compare and reports say we have reduced it dramatically. Green and Ahmed were just examples of how our total wage bill is highly bloated while that doesn't make our team on the pitch any better. Subtracting them and giving the result seems to just be missing the whole point of the discussion. I may have had one of my figures wrong, but it wasn't deliberate or slight of hand... Anyway, I'm pretty sure that our wage bill is not many orders of magnitude larger than quite a few non-OF SPL teams have had in the last 10 years. Teams that many have said were dross and not much better than the first division. There's seems to be an inconsistency there.
  16. But we're not talking total staff costs we're only talking player costs. That's all that counts when comparing how much you spend on the team. Sorry for the tautology but I thought it was was obvious what we were talking about. That figure just muddies the waters. High wages and pay offs to the likes of Green and Ahmed don't make our team significantly better than Aberdeen's.
  17. I don't have any real proof, I just read the post here: http://www.gersnetonline.co.uk/vb/showthread.php?59991-Aberdeen-s-annual-account-are-out Says £5.26m for wages. I thought ours was now around £6m which is also suggested here (I know it's the Mail but it was the latest reference I could find with a quick search): http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2443297/Rangers-boss-Ally-McCoist-set-agree-400-000-wage-cut.html I can't really vouch for the veracity of my sources but I can't imagine they'd be that far out. If they are correct, there's not that much difference between the two, although it does depend on your definition of, "nowhere near". So how about reciprocating and stating what numbers do you have and where you sourced them? I've no idea how good Falkirk are these days but there is enough history of banana skins and difficult games against teams like this from far more expensive Rangers teams to take an easy game for granted. An away game with a squad which is hardly more expensive than an upper SPL team means the gap is not as great as it used to be. I think some people forget that while lower clubs' players are not as good as more expensive ones, they can still play football to a pretty skillful level. We're not employing guys with super powers. There is no team that I know of in the world that wins every game against lesser opposition.
  18. I think we need to be reminded that the "kettling" was at an illegal march where the participants started acting aggressively. There's even their own phone footage to show this.
  19. Shows the difference between them and us. They are serial complainers who will dedicate half their life to it. They are not normal.
  20. Seems to me you're getting your excuses in early for any Ally bashing should there not be a walkover.

Do many people phone their manager's private phone even when they see them most days at work? What a strange complaint.
  22. Seeing as Aberdeen have had a similar wage bill to us of over £5M, I don't think I'm going to take any game against SPL opposition for granted, especially when you think how Aberdeen have performed in recent seasons (and with managers that some think are miles better than McCoist). And as most SPL clubs would be wary of an away game against Falkirk (don't they have a great footballing philosophy? Surely that makes them a good team? No?), I don't think I'll be counting the chickens. I expect us to win, but don't expect it to be easy.
  23. That was a terrible programme which twisted things and used ignorance to fan the flames of sectarianism and light a few more fires. You can always tell the quality of a documentary when they do a programme on something you know about. And in this case they looked like either idiots or shit stirrers. I've seen lots of BBC documentaries where I think I'm learning something, then they do one on a subject I'm knowledgeable about and I start getting frustrated at the inaccuracies and bullshit. I must admit if I stopped watching the BBC altogether, I'd miss Top Gear but as they only make about 6 episodes a year and then put on about 30 repeats, it's not much different from watching Dave. As it is I don't watch it much except for TG and Big Bang theory. I also like Family Guy and American Dad but again they are usually repeats and I have less time for that these days when I have a whole load of unwatched stuff on Netflix. And there is the crux, my telly watching is now about 90% Netflix and I'm paying £6 a month for that with absolutely no adverts or on screen interference to my programmes. For the BBC I'm paying about twice that and hardly watching it nor listening to the radio stations. I also avoid their news site as I have no trust in it due to the reporting on Rangers. So if I wasn't watching Netflix, I'd cancel it. If they were spouting anti-Rangers propaganda then I'd definitely cancel it even if I was watching it more. I'd really love to cancel the BBC - it may not all be bad but a compulsory fee organisation that abuses its position in any way is not fit for purpose. They walk a very fine line and have way overstepped the mark. The fact that complaints go nowhere and are treated with disdain is pretty criminal. And on the odd occasion the complaint is sustained, the ruling is just treated with contempt and the abuse continues unabated. When an old dishwasher is mostly working fine except it doesn't clean half your dishes properly and you can't seem to fix it, it's time to get rid no matter how good condition it's mostly in. Well that's what I'm doing, the new one's coming next week. If only I could do the same with something that is more expensive in the long run...
  24. Don't think the usual yahoos have the balls to do any more than shout from a distance. it's easy on the internet with the safety and anonymity that it gives, much harder in person.
  25. Celtic are not blameless, they not only voted Rangers out with the reason that, "they only do what's best for Celtic FC" which pretty much translates to eliminating the only competition so they get a free run at the championship and the CL money, but they also intimidated the other clubs to do so also. They are guilty of a huge conflict of interest and abusing their position to get a easy league when they should really have abstained. Had they done so and not influenced the other clubs and we were still kicked out, they could assume this blameless role and have a clear conscience - blithely playing in the lesser competition that was forced upon them. However, they consciously and nefariously chose and and went out of their way to create the shit league they are in and they now revel in it. Rangers and Kilmarnock are the only innocent clubs in this respect.
