  12. Peterborough United ââ?¬â?? Craig Mackail-Smith could be on his way to Glasgow Rangers this summer Peterborough United's in-form striker Craig Mackail-Smith is a summer transfer target for Rangers according to a source close to the player. The 27-year-old front man sits proudly at the top of the League One goal scoring charts this season, with 25 goals in 41 league appearances for the Posh. His impressive performances have attracted the attention of a number of potential suitors with Gers boss Walter Smith reportedly dispatching scouts to run the rule over Mackail-Smith in recent weeks. Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson is almost resigned to losing his star striker in the summer, particularly if his side fail in their quest for promotion back to the Championship. A move to Ibrox would likely be an appealing option for the newly-capped Scotland international, who could develop further under the stewardship of Blues legend Ally McCoist, who is set to take over the reigns at Rangers this summer. Mackail-Smith has also caught the eye of a number of clubs in England, with the Daily Mail reporting that Norwich City came in with a firm offer of Ã?£2.5million to secure his services at the end of the season, only for Peterborough to knock back advances. Having plied his trade at non-league sides St Albans and Arlesey Town, the hitman got his break when he joined then-Conference side Dagenham and Redbridge. After three prolific seasons at Victoria Road he was snapped up by Peterborough, where he played a major role in taking the club from League Two to the Championship. His career looked set to continue on an upward spiral despite the club's immediate relegation last season, and now his fine form could land him a move to Glasgow Rangers which would put him firmly in the frame for more regular international action with Scotland. Mackail-Smith was recently rewarded for his impressive performances when he was named League One Player of the Year, and was also included in the PFA Team of the Year. It's almost certain that he will leave Posh at the end of the season, with Rangers seeming the most likely destination for Mackail-Smith to continue showcasing his talent. http://www.givemefootball.com/scottish-premier-league/rangers-in-shock-united-link-to-fergusons-star-str

    Kerkar

Rangers winger Salim Kerkar has admitted he does not know why he has not yet kicked a ball for the first team but says he would not question manager Walter Smithââ?¬â?¢s judgement as he waits for a chance to impress. Kerkar signed for Rangers in November after a protracted trial period that saw some confusion over possible compensation owed to previous side FC Gueugnon. Rangers signed up the player on a deal until the end of the season with an agreement allowing Gueugnon a share of any future transfer fee. Despite not having kicked a ball in anger, Kerkar said he was happy to have moved to Scotland. ââ?¬Å?Of course I'm glad I opted for Rangers, even though I have not played a competitive match to date,ââ?¬Â he told Le Buteur. ââ?¬Å?I put my misfortune to one side, knowing that I'm progressing at all levels. ââ?¬Å?I train every time with a bit more desire and I'm sure it will eventually bear fruit one day. I meet top players every day and I know I must raise my game a little more for me to get a place. ââ?¬Å? In the interview, the 23-year old said he thought he had been close to making his debut against Celtic in the cup replay defeat at Parkhead. Kerkar remained on the bench after Steven Whittaker and Madjid Bougherra were sent off in that game and says he is patiently awaiting an opportunity to show what he can do. ââ?¬Å?The fact of asking me to warm up during a derby is important evidence that the coach thought of me as a viable option for winning the game,ââ?¬Â Kerkar said. ââ?¬Å?Itââ?¬â?¢s not nothing. ââ?¬Å?But during that away game against Celtic, I thought I would make my debut that day, but the coach changed his mind after the expulsion of one of my team-mates. ââ?¬Å?It was at that moment that I realised that I have to wait some time.ââ?¬Â The winger said that he was working hard to convince Rangers boss Walter Smith that he was worthy of a first team spot but was respectful of the managerââ?¬â?¢s decision. Kerkar admitted he did not know what more he should be doing and may have to ask Smith to clarify his position. ââ?¬Å?Frankly, I can not tell you what he thinks about me,ââ?¬Â he told the newspaper. ââ?¬Å?I may need to ask him to find out. "I give myself fully to prove he can count on me during games. The rest belongs to him. He is the master on board and I can not but bow to its decisions. ââ?¬Å?I'm not the type to go ask the coach to play me. I tell myself I'm the newest member of the team and I'm not from Barcelona or another big club to claim a starting spot. I'm at Rangers just to prove I deserve to play in a big club.ââ?¬Â
  15. By Scott Marley on Apr 18, 11 09:33 AM in who is this scott marley? Maybe now they'll get it. Now that UEFA have decided Rangers should pay for the songs, perhaps the singers will come up with something different, something more acceptable. Then again, maybe not. These people do seem incapable of hearing what the rest of us hear. Neither the lyrics nor sentiments jar with them. Apparently they believe they are protecting tradition. One of them said so on the radio the other night and he just couldn't see his argument was wide open to ridicule. They continue to march to the beat of their own big drum but are so far out of step with decent society that they are an embarrassment. But all of this has been said before. Their own club has warned them and told them to stay away, yet they stick to the club like a bad smell. Well, UEFA are no longer willing to tolerate the stench. They are acting on reports into the behaviour of Rangers fans compiled by a group called Fans Against Racism in Europe (FARE.) These reports are extreme. They are damning. Fare have detailed just about every sound and that's good. Those Rangers fans who provided the noises deserve to be banned from football and not just for two home matches. Forever. But while this page of the paper has already made it clear FARE were absolutely correct to monitor the evening choir sessions involving Rangers' supporters, the clubs they visit should be made aware of the process used to select volunteers. Let me repeat that I admire FARE's philosophy but without transparency they undermine their own work. It is simply not good enough for Piara Powar, the executive director of FARE, to say to any club they have to accept his word that the vetting processes for selecting monitors is sound. More is required. Proof of proper procedure is needed. But when I spoke with Powar in his London office a couple of weeks ago he was unable to explain the system. He couldn't say if he knew anything about the background of the person asked to monitor Rangers against PSV Eindhoven. That isn't good enough, especially when the word of this monitor is about to cost Rangers £1.5million. That's what they reckon they'll lose by playing their next two home matches in Europe behind closed doors. Clearly there is a responsibility on Powar to explain FARE's system because he has to protect the integrity of the group's work. Also, all of the clubs being called to account throughout Europe because of fan misbehaviour are entitled to be given proof that the system is robust, if not entirely foolproof. Apparently UEFA don't have much of a clue about the procedures either yet they choose FARE's reports over that of their own delegates. Surely Powar can see that to make sure FARE's work cannot be questioned he must produce some evidence at least of the criteria used. It would be a spectacular own goal if the Rangers fans, who shame their club and Scotland, were to escape punishment on the basis that FARE can't demonstrate that their procedures are impeccable. Also he has to understand he is already being viewed with deep suspicion by many Rangers fans because he has become an ambassador for a company called OnSide along with former Celtic player Paul Elliott. OnSide will operate in sports coaching and are a wholly owned subsidiary of Milestone Group in which Celtic director Dermot Desmond's son, Brett, has a stake. Elliott has done some terrific work in the battle against racism and is not a man who would get himself involved in anything deliberately designed to hurt Rangers or any other club. And Desmond's boy is a businessman. That's it but it's enough to make twisted fans make connections and see things that aren't there. Even so, Powar, for the sake of what FARE are trying to do, must know he should prove the process he used to find someone to monitor these Rangers games was, in fact, fair. Wether he likes it or not, he's caught up in this country's particular madness which makes too many Rangers fans miss the point. If none of them sang the offensive songs, a few of which have also been deemed illegal, the club they claim to support wouldn't be in trouble. It really is that simple. Forcing Rangers to play a couple of matches behind closed doors might bring one or two to their senses but UEFA probably haven't thought this one all the way through. They may have rushed to judgement without thinking ahead. For instance, what will they do if Rangers lose their appeal against the bans, the support is locked out, but the songs are heard again when the padlocks are taken off? Will they impose further sanctions? Even heavier fines? Will UEFA ban Rangers from Europe altogether? If they do that, they'll have to send FARE all over Europe compiling reports which will shut the game down completely. There are appalling incidents of racism and sectarianism all over UEFA's campus and if they are determined to hammer Rangers they have to be as tough with everyone else.
  16. CELTIC fans were involved in a tense stand-off with cops yesterday after a flare was set off during their Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden. Officers quickly moved in to the crowd to nab the yobs responsible. But members of the controversial Green Brigade supporters' group stopped them by shielding the suspects. One fan said: "The cops tried to remove one of the young boys but the Green Brigade were having none of it. "He was asking the cop why he was being led out but the officer wouldn't tell him. So he just said 'Well, I'm not going then'." Over 100 Green Brigade fans walked out in protest. Cops later nicked four men in connection with setting off a "smoke bomb" during Celtic's 4-0 win over Aberdeen. But they denied the arrests were a dress rehearsal for a 'snatch squad' who will clamp down on sectarian singing at the Easter Sunday Old Firm derby. A spokeswoman said: "There were no snatch squads. Officers went into the crowd to arrest a number of people." The Green Brigade have divided opinion among Hoops fans. Last year they caused fury with an anti-poppy banner. 18. I don't think you'll get anyone disagreeing with you on that one Pete, makes it all the more a daft/strange decision,if/when we do win this league it has to go down as one of the best considering the circumstances WS & staff, players have had to operate under. I also believe we couldn't have been this successful over the last few seasons with anybody other than WS in charge.
  19. Aye,I don't care what anyone says,it is a title decider. Am I correct in saying Motherwell play the BHEASTS at home in the last game?????

  21. Published Date: 18 April 2011 By Paul Drury A GROUP of Celtic fans was involved in a tense stand-off with police at yesterday's Scottish Cup semi-final against Aberdeen at Hampden Park in Glasgow. Strathclyde Police officers went into the crowd to arrest supporters responsible for setting off a green flare. However, they were unable to remove the individuals because fellow fans - believed to be members of the Parkhead club's "Green Brigade" group of hardcore support - physically held on to them. Police said four men were later arrested in connection with setting off what they describe as "a smoke bomb". The arrests came as figures emerged showing police dealt with more than 2,400 crimes linked to the Old Firm in the past two years alone. Strathclyde Police and British Transport Police said they dealt with 264 serious assaults, 18 attempted murders and 44 attacks on emergency workers linked to Rangers and Celtic. Last night, a spokeswoman for Strathclyde Police confirmed the latest arrests. She said: "Officers went into the crowd to lawfully arrest a number of people." She acknowledged the police's initial attempt to apprehend the fans had been unsuccessful, but said the alleged perpetrators were later detained. She added: "Four people were arrested in connection with someone setting off a smoke bomb inside the ground. This is contrary to the stadium regulations." All the arrests involved Celtic fans, though a red flare was also set off in the Aberdeen end of the ground. More than 100 Green Brigade members walked out of Hampden in protest at the arrests, missing the final goal by Shaun Maloney in their side's 4-0 victory. Trying to enter a ground in Scotland armed with a flare is contrary to the Criminal Law (Consolidation) (Scotland) Act 1995. One fan who made an early departure said: "The cops tried to remove one of the young boys, but the Green Brigade were having none of it. "He was asking the cop why he was being led out, but the officer wouldn't tell him. So he just said, 'Well, I'm not going then'." Members of the Green Brigade made headlines last year when they unfurled an anti-poppy banner around the time of Remembrance Sunday. Some Celtic fans say the group has brought shame on the club, while others insist it has improved the atmosphere on match days. Next weekend's Easter Sunday match between Celtic and Rangers will see 35 Strathclyde Police officers mingle with the crowdto target sectarianism. The plan was drawn up after the 2 March game, which resulted in three red cards, touchline and tunnel confrontations and 34 arrests. Strathclyde Assistant Chief Constable Campbell Corrigan said: "We believe alcohol is the problem. Football is just the excuse. The vast majority of football fans out there enjoy these high-profile matches, without being affected by any violence. "Unfortunately, there is a minority of people who use the matches as a cover to cause disorder and disruption. "As a result, they get drunk, become full of aggression and, inevitably, they cause antisocial behaviour or seriously assault somebody." In February, after the widely condemned behaviour at an Old Firm clash, Scottish Police Federation chairman Les Gray called for an outright ban on any Celtic versus Rangers games. http://thescotsman.scotsman.com/news/Celtic39s-39Green-Brigade39-in-standoff.6753556.jp?articlepage=2
  22. Time to take a stand RANGERS were yesterday urged to take a strong stand against any potential racist abuse before they travel to face Red Star Belgrade in their Champions League third-round qualifying tie. The Serbian side lost 2-1 to Levadia Tallinn last night but went through on away goals and now stand between the Ibrox outfit and a place in the group stages of Europe's elite club competition. But Piara Powar, spokesman for Football Against Racism in Europe, warned another problem is looming and said: "Unfortunately, Serbia has a terrible problem with neo-nazism and racist abuse. It's no exaggeration to say they are probably the worst country in Europe for it. "What happened to DaMarcus Beasley in Montenegro against FK Zeta is completely unacceptable, but at least UEFA have acted quickly on it. "Rangers should make as much noise as possible before they travel to Serbia about the possible racist abuse. "In the lead-up to the match, they should make it clear this is not acceptable and even try and hold talks with the club. "Serbia and the former Yugoslavian states always appear to be the worst offenders . . . it's up to Rangers and their supporters to say they won't accept it." Why didn't you send a FARE representative there then Mr Powar???????? http://www.heraldscotland.com/red-star-warned-over-further-racist-abuse-1.862885

He's no bowler mate,he's only there for the beer!!!
  24. I think we're all looking for parity, this is the big problem, however I've said it before and I'll say it again, these songs that rae banned are all because the BHEASTS wanted them banned, and they got exactly what they wanted, they've even managed to change the definition of the word fenian,so I suppose the definition of the word will have to be changed in the dictionary!!!. The next question is what song will they get banned next??,as we seem to allow them to dictate what is offensive or not?.
  25. OOPS!!!!,Stokes penalty missed..........................................
