  1. From a personal point of view even if I were worth as much as he is and he clearly already has enough to live in luxury for multiple lifetimes and despite the fact with such a pile I could afford to lose a bundle I would still be reluctant to throw it into a football team. But perhaps I may feel differently if I had spent my life in football professionally. I'm now also wondering if he will actually live locally. He has 4 young children one of them barely a year old. I think I may have reservations about taking such a job and bringing young children into the poisonous atmosphere of the old firm divide. Does he even grasp the depth of it? Paul Gascoigne who grew up just across the border didn't until he found himself in it.
  2. And he isn't short of a few bob. He must be worth tens of millions. His estimated earnings from a single year.
  3. Yes the BT crew appear to be acting as though Gerard has already privately told them he's taking the job. You would imagine their behaviour might be different if he had expressed any reservations.
  4. Coincidentally Liverpool did when they put Kenny Dalglish in the hot seat first time round.
  5. Obviously we all hope it works out but it's a puzzling one. What qualifies Gerrard to be manager of the club with no managerial experience while reportedly Gary McAllister who does have management experience is relegated to assisting a novice? One factor i'm banking on is that I have doubts Gerrard would step into this cauldron which could severely damage his future management prospects without some substantial squad building financial guarantees. And presumably his name must have at least some sort of positive effect effect regarding persuading good quality to play in Scotland.
  6. Presumably Gerrard was watching this which will at least give him an indication of what's required. There is the nucleus of a team already in there. It's going to require the right man to strengthen it and get them playing. Whether Gerrard is that man remains to be seen but I seriously doubt he would be taking the job without assurances regarding a budget. And as things stand he appears to be taking the job.
  7. Steven Gerrard: Rangers confident of appointment in coming days https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/43941093
  8. How can that be possible? They're skint didn't you know? Going into admin next month. No wait a minute that was last Xmas. But hey if enough numpties keep saying it often enough it has to happen. Right?
  9. Best we might initially say is that though he has no managerial experience he has ample experience of being managed by successful top coaches and playing at the highest level.
  10. Apparently King was at the Liverpool v Roma game. As of course was Gerrard.
  11. Something I noticed during their 33 minute 5 goal rampage was that Liverpool began employing a long ball strategy while Roma were set up in a high press. Completely bypassed the midfield and destroyed Roma with great pace. It could have been even more than 5 as they missed some gild edged chances prior to the first goal. If Klopp wins this trophy he's heading to be a football God playing the most entertaining brand of football. I can remember a comment from Alex Ferguson some years ago when Klopp was still at Dortmund that he always watched Klopp sides play because it was so entertaining.
  12. I don't think that Real or Bayern are brilliant defensively either. Liverpool will reach the final and whoever they meet there we're likely going to see a blistering encounter possibly high scoring. Liverpool have 44 goals in 11 Champions league games this season. That's a remarkable strike rate at this level.
  13. Liverpool now outright favourites to win the CL. Liverpool 11/8 Real Madrid 2/1 Bayern Munich 9/4 Roma 40/1
  14. Who wouldn't be happy if they could do this?
  15. Liverpool are the highest scoring team in this seasons CL and you have to take them to score again in Italy.
  16. Liverpool all over Roma winning 2-0 at HT going on 5. This really is a top drawer side Klopp has built. They can win the CL.
  17. .. I expect it's as simple as the manager saying I want to strengthen the central defence. Mark Allen says ok does the research and gives the manager a list to choose from. The manager examines the options and makes a choice. It's the best way to go. I want the coach focused on coaching not roving around looking for players. So we then need to trust Mark Allen to provide the best available options within our means.
  18. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has asked fans to "show respect" outside Anfield before Tuesday's Champions League tie against Roma, and not throw objects at the visiting team's bus. Cans, bottles and flares were thrown at Manchester City's bus as it arrived at the ground before the first leg of their quarter-final earlier this month. "This is an outstanding club known for its fantastic atmosphere," said Klopp on the eve of the semi-final first leg. "We don't need to throw things." Merseyside Police are investigating the attack on 4 April, during which two police officers were injured, while Uefa - European football's governing body - has opened disciplinary proceedings. "In the stadium do it again and better," said Klopp. "Outside the stadium, please show the respect we have to show. "We can show how wonderful Liverpool people are and we can show it in 20 minutes before the game and then the whole world knows it." Police will use mobile CCTV and specialist dogs trained to detect pyrotechnics at the game. The match commander - chief superintendent Dave Charnock - has warned fans with flares and other pyrotechnics inside and outside the ground could face prosecution. He added: "We are expecting a vibrant atmosphere at Tuesday's match, but our intention is that at the end of the day we will be talking about the game and what happened on the pitch as opposed to off the pitch." https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/43869756
  19. I'm living in hope that we're due a result against them. All the pressure will be on them. Scared to fuck it up on what's intended to be their party day. That hubz result was as predictable as night following day. We all knew that was coming.
  20. It's going to come down to the wire in the final two games. Both away. Sheep then hubz in the last one.
  21. Hearts are only in the top 6 to make up he numbers. They have just 4 away wins all season and of their remaining home games one is to the yahoos the other hubz. I think they might squeeze out a win against hubz in a derby atmosphere but see them winning nothing else.
  22. Rangers have almost all the pressure and looking the most dangerous but it's breaking down at the sharp end.
  23. Trophies and titles. Only Ferguson and Paisley won more. Though both of them also won Euro trophies while Wenger has none.
  24. I don't care who makes the strips providing the money is good. And I think it's prudent to negotiate a shorter deal such as the 3 years being reported rather than say a 5 year deal. Chances are we will have further re-established ourselves in 3 years time and be free to negotiate a better deal.
