The Summer 2018 Transfer Window Rumours and Deals
JFK-1 replied to der Berliner's topic in Rangers Chat
There is no way we're going to be capturing any young top quality with loads of experience. That type of player will cost tens of millions and be in the EPL. Right now we may be looking to get "friends of Gerrard" who have made their money and may be willing to accept a new challenge to help out their friend at the beginning of his managerial career. -
The Summer 2018 Transfer Window Rumours and Deals
JFK-1 replied to der Berliner's topic in Rangers Chat
I have seen some commenting that paying high wages for loan deals is effectively short termism and not the way to move forward. I agree on most levels but at this time isn’t a brief period of such a strategy good for the long term if we were to win the league next season? Depriving the yahoos of 10 in a row and CL income while giving us a shot at that income? -
JORDAN Rossiter has recalled how he blossomed as a player working alongside Steven Gerrard before the Liverpool and England great had even moved into coaching - and expressed confidence he will flourish as manager at Rangers. The appointment of Gerrard at Ibrox earlier this month took British football aback due to his inexperience in the dugout; he has only been in charge of the under-18 side at Anfield for little over a year. Many Scottish football supporters and pundits are sceptical about whether the 37-year-old will be able to resurrect the fortunes of the Ladbrokes Premiership club next season. However, Rossiter, who made his comeback from injury in a Ladbrokes Premiership match against Hibernian at Easter Road on Sunday and scored his side’s second goal in the astonishing 5-5 draw, believes it is an inspired decision and is looking forward to being reunited with his celebrated countryman. The former England youth internationalist worked alongside Gerrard at Premier League club Liverpool as a teenager and saw first hand what an inspirational figure he was and the impact his presence has on those around him. “I have obviously never worked with him as a manager, but as a player when I was up training with him at Melwood he was absolutely superb with me,” he said. “He was first class. “He is obviously a fellow Scouser and he helped me a lot. I haven’t seen him for about a year now. But I’m sure I’ll learn just as much off him as a manager as I did when he was a player.” Rossiter made his first appearance for the Rangers first team in nine months at the weekend and acquitted himself well. He even managed to play on after being scythed down by Scott Allan in a challenge the Hibernian midfielder should have been ordered off for. The 21-year-old has endured a difficult time with injuries since being signed by former manager Mark Warburton two years ago and admitted he is determined to put his problems behind him in the 2018/19 campaign and feature regularly under Gerrard. Asked if the arrival of Gerrard had given him an extra incentive to get back playing again, he said: “To be honest, no. This is Rangers Football Club and no matter what manager comes in they will bring a good pedigree. I would always try and be on top of my game. “No matter who was coming in, I’d want to be a big part of it. I want to be a Rangers player. I want to be here. Whoever the manager was, I was going to try and be at the top of my game and get back into the starting XI.” Rossiter added: “I have had a tough time with injuries, everyone knows my injury record isn’t great. Hopefully, I can put that all behind me now. “I have come here to play football games and unfortunately my body hasn’t allowed me to do that. But the medical team have been absolutely first class, sorting me right out. “It’s just about getting back to playing. That’s all I want to do, to be winning football matches and doing my best for the team and the fans. “Listen, I think I just need to take it step by step. I need to keep doing the right things on and off the pitch. I need to keep living my life right, which I feel I have been. I have just been unfortunate with a few niggles and knocks. “Sometimes this happens in football, you know. I’m sure I’ll get back. The few years I have missed here, I am sure I will get back at the end of my career.” Gerrard, who starts at Rangers on June 1, will be the fifth manager that Rossiter has had in the two years he has been in Scotland. He was signed by Mark Warburton and has since worked under Pedro Caixinha, Graeme Murty and Jimmy Nicholl. The midfielder believes having an extended run with will enable them to pull close to their city rivals Celtic and challenge for silverware again. “I think every club need stability,” he said. “In the longer run that is only going to help us. The players really need to get on board, like we have done with all the managers. It is a good group of lads. I can’t really put my finger on where it has gone wrong, but hopefully the lads will go into pre-season flying.” Rossiter admitted he was disappointed the end of the season had arrived just when he had forced his way back into the first team. “There will be personalised programmes to do over the summer,” he said. “I haven’t played as much as the other lads so I need to keep the momentum going.” Jordan Rossiter: Steven Gerrard helped when he was a Liverpool player - I'm sure he'll shine as Rangers manager

The 2017 'Global Sports Salaries Survey' report found a large variation between the wages offered by teams in the Scottish Premiership, with champions Celtic paying an average annual salary of £735,040, per player, whilst traditional rivals Rangers could only pay £329,600 and league runners-up Aberdeen offered £136,382. The lowest salary offered by any of the twelve member clubs was Hamilton's £41,488 – 17 times less than Celtic, whose wages were close to the sum of the other eleven clubs combined. The report stated that this disparity was the third-greatest from the 18 leagues surveyed. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scottish_Premiership#Financial_disparity

Regarding the Euro qualifiers if we had won the Scottish cup we wouldn't be starting till the second qualifying round. Might it be a blessing in disguise that we have to start at the first qualifying round? There are likely to be a bunch of new players to be bedded in and since the opposition in the first round are likely to be of a much lower standard it might actually be in our favour that we have to play it. And aside from the players bedding in process the club might actually make an extra million pounds at the gate for the first competitive match of the Steven Gerrard era. -
Gary McAllister says Rangers will be building from the back
JFK-1 replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
Obviously makes sense. We're the highest scoring team in the league but leaking goals. Sort that and we're looking at a whole different scenario. Wondering what Gerrard thinks of Alves. Would he consider pairing him with another experienced man. -
How comical if Morelos ultimately leaves for more than him.

Rangers charged by SFA over 2011/12 UEFA licence issue

Immaterial. Ask the obsessed and they will tell you it's not the same club, 'yer teams deid son' -
Anyone getting the feeling there may be no significant movement till Gerrard actually takes the hot seat on June 1st? At which point he will have 6 weeks before the first Euro qualifying game. If he can get us into that group stage he will already have done a job for the club. A 10 million pound windfall. Here’s hoping. I will remain confident till I have reason not to be.
-
I think Gerrard may make a difference to him but that's a personal view. Looking at it from the perspective of if it were me as a young boy at an English club with no Scots around me me then in comes a Scottish legend I had idolised who had played his entire career at Rangers I would be massively encouraged. Just in passing I cringed yesterday when that tackle went in. He hit him hard and when he didn't immediately get back up the first thought was oh no here we go again. This boy is cursed.
-
What I care about is that if I were of a conspiracy bent I would have to start thinking why can't the sheep get a look in against them all season but on the final day when it's crucial to us the sheep are getting a look in. Will the yahoos be so inept against Motherwell? Or is that impossible because it would keep yahoos 2 out of Europe?
-
If it’s accurate presumably they ran it past Gerrard first.
-
It's as clear an example as we could expect to find of how 'diddy' a team they actually are when a single domestic cup win is the most momentous thing that ever happened to them. Lennon knows it too and he's just been biding team till a 'real' job comes along. Their midfield is going to be dismantled over the next few weeks and a diddy club like them wont have the means to rebuild it. Bolt shot, bubble burst, back to reality.
-
He'd like the Liverpool squad to be available but since that's not going to happen he will just have to work with what's available. If he really does have a talent for this I believe he can make this a winning team with just a handful or so good additions. They do have the makings of a dominant SPL team but for whatever reason they only show it in spells. The hubz think they've had a good season yet we're ahead of them and we view it as a poor season. It's up to Gerrard to get the team performing consistently.
-
Even their own support don't think they have a hope of scoring 6 with no reply. They're banking on the benefactors who already handed them 3 points to get them into Europe by beating Motherwell. Funny situation, wonder what would have happened if Motherwell winning would have kept us out of Europe rather than hubz. Even their own grunting support would likely have viewed that as an acceptable result.

True but there's about as much chance of that happening as Lennon winning the Nobel peace prize. Ever noticed it's never Lennons fault when they lose? It's the referees fault, the players fault, the studs fault. Anything but him.
