I get where you're coming from but at the same time he's being entirely honest about it and let's face it, anyone with any quality will have the same thing in mind. I expect that even we who grew up supporting the club would have the same thing in mind. But we have him under contract and to get there he will have to consistently turn in some sterling performances then a couple of years down the line we can cash in and start the same process with someone else. Someone else who has seen others before him get Euro football at Rangers and be showcased in the promised land about close as you can get to it without actually being in it. Right now it's simply the way it is and will remain that way for the foreseeable future.

I'm not a betting man but if I were forced to bet on something it would be on the fact that we will concede fewer and score more. That alone will likely translate into more points accumulated.

The Pre-Summer-2017 transfer rumours and hearsay all inclusive Thread
JFK-1 replied to der Berliner's topic in Rangers Chat
I think they want to play a pretend game with their bleating crowd of saying that the yahoos are so far ahead we can't compete with them but we can compete with Rangers so we wont sell to them. I don't think they will be competing with us at all. They will be competing with the rest for third. But if that's the way they want to play it with an unhappy player so be it. If we still want him sometime in the next 12 months we will take him for a pittance or even free. -
Well apparently during the kickabout with SJ the opposition could barely get a sniff of the ball.
-
Might be difficult to say where the team will stand even after Thursday. The opposition aren't of a high quality and it's the first competitive game for a largely new team. Of course if we gave out an absolute thrashing it can only be a good sign. Been counting the days till Thursday and soon get down to counting the hours.

I'm getting the feeling recently that they're trying to convince themselves we're miles behind them. It can actually work in our favor because if we don't win the league then apparently no one expected us to anyway because hey we're so far behind them. On the other hand if we did win it they have a lot of humble pie to eat and back pedaling to do.
-
I don't think it can be described as King telling Pedro how to set up the side but rather telling him to set up as he pleases and at that stage with none of his own players involved the board would accept the result with no reflection on Pedro. This season that will be different. Now this is his team.
-
It wont matter what we do in the minds of people like that. If we went out and won the league well the yahoos obviously must have had a bad season and underperformed. Rferees and others were conspiring against them while helping us. If we don't win the league and even finish far ahead of the third place well then we're still poor. We just can't win with a certain segment. Ever. And even the news of throwing off the yoke of Ashley is being twisted by that segment to be somehow bad. So there you have it. We can't win with them no matter what we do and that would even include making the Europa group stage acquiring some badly need co-efficiency points along the way. Instead of praising us they would somehow twist it into we got lucky or something else equally frivolous.
-
King addressed that by saying Pedro was told to go out and play it in the fashion he wanted the team to play regardless of whether he yet had the players who could actually do that effectively and regardless of the fact it may end in disaster.

It's impossible to say right now if we can take the title this season but I wouldn't yet say that it's impossible to do so. I think I could say with a degree of confidence that a minimum second and a vastly reduced gap at the top is highly probable. Let's look at it from what we can closely examine with absolute certainty, that's the season just gone. At the end of the day even with a team we all agreed wasn't good enough and that the media ragged on as if they were the worst team in the league actually plodded it's way to a respectable third place with a comfortable gap between us and SJ in 4th and a 21 point gap between us and heartz in 5th. And all that with a team that both we and the media labeled poor. The sheep finished 9 points ahead of us but that was actually a highly deceiving gap since we actually outplayed them 3 times out of 4 beating them twice and hammering them 3-0 in their own sheep pen. And this season it would appear they will be considerably weaker than they were last time out while hopefully we will be considerably stronger. I think I can say the sheep will be considerably weaker because the team McInnes built has just been gutted of it's spine and there is no way they can rebuild that in the way Rangers can and are at this very minute. They are way out of the reckoning and may struggle just to be in the top 5. If they could rebuild that they would already have done it as we have because they're not going to be very far behind us in terms of having to play a Euro qualifier. The first leg of the second qualifying round is less than 3 weeks away. Same with heartz, they just finished 21 points behind our misfiring team and that's probably about as good as they're going to get anytime soon. The proposition that we will be considerably stronger is at this stage somewhat hypothetical since we have never see this team play. But, surely we have to give this manager some credit for knowing something about how to build a football team and further enough to know how to build a considerably stronger team than the one he inherited. And the chances are that we may add even more strength before this window finishes and yet more in the January window. The opposition despite their 'invincibles' crowing are actually no great side. They're a mob who won as poor a Scottish league as I have seen in my lifetime, were beaten by the taxi drivers of Gibraltar, and came within a hairsbreadth of failing to qualify for the Champions league at all after being pummeled in Israel and only being saved when the Israelis missed a late penalty. Then in the Champions league finished bottom of the group with not a single win and a 7-0 demolition at the hands of Barcelona. Invincibles are invincible. They don't get their arse handed to them by taxi drivers and thrashed 7-0 by anybody. It's still early days and difficult to tell but even at this stage with reservations I think we can indeed do this. and if it doesn't come off for whatever reason then so be it. We will become steadily stronger while they have likely peaked and can only stand still or backslide from this position.

If Pedro wanted him we would have him already. Clearly he doesn't.

Another CB? Curious. Last season we struggled to get one now we're trying to build an army of them. -

Might be worth a million just to give them another slap after taking Jack and remind them of their proper place in the scheme of things -

And incidentally what's the betting the opening sequence will be claimed a conspiracy to help us completely ignoring that it's a cycle and we had the opposite scenario last year. -

I'm focused on taking 21 points from the first 7 games. If we can do that we would be topping the league with confidence running high. As for the opening game we consistently beat them home and away last season and I would expect the same again. It's actually as good an opening sequence as we could have hoped for with all the harder ones at home. -
For some reason that crap irked me almost more than anything else. It was always obvious this sum was meant to be spent on a variety of things over a number of years and while I get the mindless screams of the unwashed the likes of Jackson parroting it was unforgivable. Now he sees the giant getting back on to it's feet and doesn't want to be on the outside looking in. But he burned his bridges and there can be no rebuilding them.
-
Jackson is worried we're going to go on a spectacular run and he will be left outside looking in the window.

I think the following quote from that article is a fine indication of the forward thinking of King and his commitment to putting the club back where it belongs at the pinnacle of Scottish football. Paid compensation instead of just waiting another month to get Pedro for free. To get this show back on the road as quickly and competently as possible and hopefully that's now going to be paying dividends in the shape of this overhauled squad.

Our main striker still has to come into the picture too.

Joe O’Rourke warns of another Heysel Stadium disaster
JFK-1 replied to ian1964's topic in General Football Chat
They put the engines into reverse and tried to pass it by but a mile isn't enough to stop or move aside something that heavy moving at that speed. Turns out what they did caused them to hit it a glancing blow which ripped the side open. It's thought that if the captain had been on the bridge at the time he may have told them to hit it head on which the ship would have survived. -
We're all broke after cleaning out the megastore

Sounds like we were all over them even with a constantly changing lineup of people getting 20 minutes here and there. Not discouraging since they are one of the better sides in the league and probably considerably better than next weeks opponents.
