I think Norris and Andy both make good points. I think we need to strike a balance. Say 7 or 8 first teamers start with 3 or 4 youth players. This could be adjusted up or down depending on the tie and how the match pans out.

True, even the most stubborn of player could be persuaded to leave. Seems Boyd is determined to stay though.

The hyperbole around their signings and players is hilarious and always comes back to bite them on the arse.

Please somebody tell me something is happening here? I don't think we have one decent back up for Boogie and Weir for CL and OF games. I'm comfortable with Lee having the odd game there against the SPL's lesser lights, but we have to get proper cover in. If we don't many fans will be questioning the sense in signing Rothen if we could only bring one loan signing in.

I quite agree. The arguement against Boyd I often read is that if he left, we wouldn't automatically lose 30ish goals a season as someone else would score them. If you accept the argument about making more chances then sure Miller might grab a few more, as would whoever played in Boyd's stead. Maybe even some midfielders would chip in more. I reckon, though, it would only account for maybe half Boyd's contribution though.

There were suggestions that Boyd was taking the piss with his wage demands to scupper the deal and for once i'm inclined to believe it. There's a poster on FF who appears to know Boyd well and says he would "have to think about it if Man U or Real Madrid came in for him". Obviously a wee joke, but was his way of saying he wouldn't sign for pretty much anyone else.
