I moved this in here as I think this might have interesting implications for the first team. If the reserves aren't part of a league format, will the fringe players be getting enough game time to keep them as match fit as possible? I know perhaps reserve games do not keep players sharp enough for first team football, but if the reserves are not even part of a league format an hence even less competitive might players take it even more lightly? Or will the intended greater quality of opposition attenuate that? Also if there is no reserve league, more players are likely to go out on loan as alluded to by Tommy Wilson, might that leave us in trouble if we get an injury/suspension crisis in the first team? Interesting concept and I see the positives and benefits. But i'm not sure i'd agree with leaving the reserve league if we did.

As Calscot says, McLean is at Plymouth. But was linked with Aberdeen recently.

To your last point about youths getting more game time, if we shrink the squad down to 20 they almost certainly will have too. However, it's still a case of actions speak louder than words and wait and see. Good post Craig.

I like the look of that Craig. Whittaker definitely has the ability to play like a real wing back and Papac has shown an improved ability to get forward, but perhaps isn't good enough at it and that would be the one main weakness imo, in addition to ensuring midfielders drop in and provide support to the fullbacks when necessary.

In light of Johnny's thread which quote Smith as saying there will be no transfers in, would people be happier keeping star players like Boogie and going with what we have or selling Bougherra (or other) and using the funds to attempt to strengthen the squad? Edit: Can we pull off another Boumsong or Cuellar type deal?

Just checked, thats the same McLean we had who outscored Jon Stead when on loan down south in the same league. Stead got a �£1mil move to Blackburn. McLeab went for buttons/f.a. Exactly the kind of player I think of when complaining Celtic get better deals for their fringe players and youths.
