  1. Welcome to Gersnet mate! I'm hoping McCoist will have learned the best of Walter's defensive tactics but compliment this with some exciting attacking play whenever possible. As he was a striker himself, I can't see him playing a 5-4-1 all that often!
  2. I think it's fair to say last night he was somewhat restricted by the lack of personnel available to him. However, 5-4-1 was not needed against Celtic and never should be. Same with the Sporting game. For top-class opposition, fair enough but anything else is just cowardly.
  3. Last night was not a dirty game - in fact I can only remember two really bad challenges; one from Kayal and one from Bougherra. The referee lost the plot; not the Rangers players.
  4. Aye, they're happy with the referee all right. Until the next game they drop points.
  5. He doesn't go into our technical area but as EHD has a word with the forth official or whoever, Lennon takes it upon himself to get involved. The man is a scumbag.
  6. A very reasonable way of looking at the financial side of it but clubs will always be creative with their accounts. I wonder just how strict these new UEFA Financial Fair Play rules will actually be. Perhaps one of our resident bean-counters would be so kind as to have a look over them and report back in article form...
  7. Amen to that MF...
  8. Look forward to hearing more tomorrow. The tax issue has been known for a year now so surely if they didn't like what they were hearing there they would have walked away months ago?
  9. Irrespective of who the new manager is, the right thing to do strategically was to formally name Smith's successor. We did the same with Advocaat around the same time in Smith's final season during 1997/98...
  10. Let's take the positive view in that hopefully it is so we can tie up a few transfers/contracts behind the scenes...
  11. Probably a combination of that and a few other factors MF. Fact is, how you can sign new players (and/or get existing ones to sign new contracts) as well as plan other strategies if you don't have a manager in place? Sure we had an informal arrangement but we often complain about short-termism at the club so on this occasion I'm glad Rangers have formalised the position to enable us to move forward for next season and beyond.
  12. And yer boss wants Old Firm games banned!
  13. Hey, you're the one arresting people for singing naughty songs...
  14. This is a discussion board with real people and we're all supposed to support the same team. Conducting ourselves with a bit of decorum is the minimum we should do and while the odd difference of opinion makes for interesting reading, I'm surprised people can't disagree without resorting to child-like behaviour. By the same token, I'm sure we can all survive being called a few names and should take it as a compliment when you force folk into name-calling tangents. It's almost always a sign you've won the debate!
  15. I'd say that was more because of the improved attitude of Edu/Davis than anything else. When they're attacking enough and solid in possession we don't have to worry about the defence; deep or not. If they don't work hard and/or give the ball away too often then we start to have problems no matter the defence. For example, after half-time yesterday Lafferty simply stopped playing, Wylde looked uncomfortable on the right, Edu started to sit deep and we invited St Johnstone onto us. At that point we struggled a bit. Wylde then moved to the left, Fleck came on for Healy and we maintained possession a bit better up front which brought Davis back into the game.
  16. Rangers take advantage of Celtic slip up with routine home victory over mediocre Saints. http://www.gersnetonline.co.uk/2010/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=376:rangers-4-0-st-johnstone-player-ratings-and-mom-poll&catid=35:analysis&Itemid=67 :sd: I've been wanting to post the wee man's name for months as MotM so am delighted to do so this morning. OK he wasn't brilliant but he was much tidier in possession, worked hard off the ball and was a threat in attack. More please! Cap also doffed to Jelavic, Bougherra and Papac for doing well. :spl:
  17. Listening to Radio Scotland the other day when Lloyds were reporting their results, the finance guy was suggesting Lloyds would be forced to break up as soon as April by the monopolies commission - i.e. HBOS would be their own group again. Would be very interesting to see how that would affect Rangers.
  18. I didn't think we looked all that much more solid without Weir actually and we still sat too deep regardless. Wednesday's formation is a big decision for Smith. Does he recall Weir and go with a 5 man defence as per in Europe? Or does he stick with a 4 to allow Jelavic an essential partner up front?
  19. Totti has been given a week's suspension for breaking our rules. All opinions are welcome but there's a fine line between being genuine and downright abusive. Hopefully the fella will reconsider his contribution and return next week full of beans where his differing opinion will be welcome as always!
  20. Yip, certainly a walkover mate!
  21. Ah the Welsh wonderkid who can't get past former Aberdeen defender Kevin McNaughton into the Cardiff team... Bricking it!
  22. Bluedell 1 - 0 Celticminded Again.

  24. Must admit, I am disappointed with both him and our manager elect with their behaviour at the equaliser...
  25. Rangers progress into last 16 of Europa League and gain much needed morale ahead of SPL run-in. http://www.gersnetonline.co.uk/2010/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=373:sporting-2-2-rangers-player-ratings-and-mom-poll&catid=35:analysis&Itemid=67 :rf: Arguably culpable at Sporting 2nd goal the lad didn't let it affect him and provided the inspiration for both our goals while covering at the back when necessary.
