PLG to PSG = no pay off Billy Davies will be our new manager
-
January is certainly not the time to judge. Deespite some obvious problems and mistakes, the new manager deserves longer than 6 months before we judge him as a failure.
-
Thomson will not be coming to Rangers.
-
I dont think we can call anyone a twat until we know the facts. We need to keep our emotions in check then when we know the full story we can decide who to blame or not.
-
I don't want to say much about who is to blame for this soap opera - I don't think any of us know for certain. I can't say for sure but our club should always be more than one man - captain, manager or chairman. These 3 people are the most important people at Rangers and the fans rightfully expect these people to act in our best interests while representing our club in a dignified manner. I don't think any of them are doing that right now and although I think it's unfair to blame any of them completely, all 3 should be ashamed of the problems that they are bestowing upon a group of fans who deserve much, much more. I spent the first day of 2007 with my Grandad who, despite being as big a bear as I know, doesn't (or more accurately can't) keep up with everthing politicial that happens at Rangers nowadays. We discussed many things not least our absent friends and how the club has changed since the days he used to attend as often as he could. What came up was the no single man should ever be bigger than Rangers Football Club. Unfortunately, it appears that there appears to be several people who think that they are. Instead of using their valued individual talents to work together and bring the best to our club, they appear to be conspiring against each other and bringing the worst. It's time that all 3 showed some humilty and respect for their positions and asked themselves what the real people behind our club want. We want hunger, we want pride, we want communication, we want teamwork, we want direction, we want ambition, we want leadership, we want dignity and most importantly we want more than all 3 of you are currently offering.

Rumours of Ferguson's departure are rather premature at this stage. Now, I think it's been pretty obvious for the last wee while that, despite Ferguson's excellent form, his relationship with the new manager hasn't been as positive as any of us would have liked. It's testament to both PLG and Ferguson that until now they had managed to keep their personal differences aside for the benefit of a team that can ill-afford to miss one of the SPL's best midfielders. Unfortunately, it seems that can no longer be done. That's extremely disappointing and in many ways I sympathise with the manager, the player and - most importantly - the fans. As usual, it will be us that suffer from this problem and as many have alluded to in the last few years, our club has no structure and leader to avoid circumstances like these. At this stage it's impossible to attribute the blame to either party but it's imperative that someone at the club (either Murray or Bain) should show some leadership, humilty and respect for our fans by explaining this issue while informing of us of what measures are being put in place to turn around our slump and improve the many areas in which or club is lacking behind. I believe that will happen but whether or not that will appease us all is another matter entirely. PS: It's amazing how the supposedly vastly over-inflated 'crab' is suddenly hot property for certain SPL teams who have NO chance of signing him.

I still see PLG as the long term answer. He has shown that he can be flexible and if he can add to the squad in terms of a defender and a striker then we won;'t be far away. It was never going to happen overnight and hopefully our patience will be rewarded. The signs are there and with our backing we will get even better.

There were a few guys who met Lucarelli while in Italy for the Livorno game. Seemingly he said he enjoyed playing against Rangers and only wished the game had been at Ibrox. As for him signing - I very much doubt we'd be able to afford to pay £3million for a player who will have no sell on value. We do need a replacement striker for Prso but I doubt we'll get one until the summer and I doubt it will be Lucarelli.

Thanks for clarifying that Craig. MY finance knowledge is most rudimentary.

No, the JJB money is still there. We got £18million up front. £3.5million of that was released to the profit/loss accounts for 05/06 which leaves £14.5million in reserve. This is to be used on an annual basis I believe. We also get a minimum £3million per season as part of the deal. This year it could be as much as £5million so I'm told because of the 3 new strips selling well. I also understand that there is to be 3 new strips again for next season which, although sound business sense in terms of maximising revenue from JJB, is a disgrace for the many families out there who struggle to afford such items every 2/3 years.

He's a good wee player but very similar in nature to Novo. We need a aerially dominant centre-half first; a strong, creative player second and a decent target man next. Not sure where Naismith fits into that equation unless we're moving people on.

The accounts are published each year for Rangers and MIH so we can use these (albeit probably sanitised) version to analyse his fiscal contribution. But generally regarding his 'input', I'm sure you're right...
-
It's an interesting point and we do now have an accountant on our board. However, as well all know even accountants disagree on some issues and even the very best of them often find it hard to dig too deeply into Rangers (and specifically MIH's) accounts. I'll maybe have a word in his ear and see if such an exercise is possible.

We can only spend what we earn, politics, the bifurcation fallacy
Frankie replied to bmck's topic in Rangers Chat
Superb post mate... Murray is the master of spin. Yes, we should not go into serious debt again but that doesn't automatically mean we should not spend nor speculate in that regard. -
You could be right but another 2nd place (or worse) won't be enough for many of the fans who still sit on the fence when it comes to Murray. Especially if they don't see us competing in the transfer market. As I say, Murray bases his life on his ego. The bruise on that ego is getting bigger and blacker by the second.
-
The difference is that even at the height of Celtic's UEFA run and high spending we were still winning stuff. Now we're not and if the status quo remains there's nothing like 2 trophyless seasons to concentrate the mind.
-
Most probably mate but in the last couple of weeks we've seen how strong support for Murray is. He promised us we'd never be 2nd to a Celtic side while he was in charge. Time for him to deliver on that promise or time for him to leave. For those of us who question his commitment and love for the club, last night's result was arguably the best one in many ways.
-
With Celtic winning last night - normally I'd be gutted (and I am to an extent obviously!). Celtic are now guaranteed at least £12million for their CL run as well as a minimum £6million next season that means they can possibly afford to spend up to £10million between now and the start of next season. That could be considered very bad news for us and now, more than ever, David Murray has to think back to his boasts of years past and ensure that if they do spend serious money, we match it as best we can. Right now we are struggling to be even 2nd best in Scotland. If we want to secure that and ensure a challenge against a resurgent Celtic, not only do we need investment of a worthy degree but a chairman who is up for the fight. David Murray now faces his most difficult challenge since he came to the club. He suggests he's still the man for the job and obviously many, many fans still believe that. Thus, either he puts in the investment required or if he doesn't he will be forced out all the quicker. The next 1-2 years will set the tone for the next 10-20. Will we be first or last? Only one man can answer that question - hero or villian, Mr Murray - what's it to be?
-
Good luck mate...
-
Sods law that they end up winning just before they play us (They might be thinking the same thing right enough...)
-
That's exactly what it was mate. Welcome to Gersnet...

Hearts have just as big a problem with bigotry as Rangers and Celtic right now so their online articles are hypocriticial to say the least.
-
From what I seen on the TV coverage it was white paper cup thrown onto the pitch. Unacceptable as were the usual imibements to song of our songs yesterday unfortunately. We can claim media/UEFA victimisation all we want and in many cases of course it's more than valid but we don't help outcase when we let the *** add-ons back into our chants.
-
If we can go on a winning run until Xmas I'll be delighted - then we can take it from there. Consistency hasn't been our strong point this season so we should keep our expectations realistic.

As usual Leggo hits the spot. The good thing about Leggo is that he's not only honest but he is objective and balanced.
