Exactly, he's under no obligation. It's an honour bestowed upon thos who are felt have reached the level where they can represent their country. And people who are given that honour shouldn't pick and choose when they will accept it.

The fact is, Walter obviously doesn't see much in him. When we were crying out for a goal against Lyon, he left him sitting. I'm sure there have been big games (I think the OF game at least, maybe others) where he hasn't even made the bench. that to me, says the club will be better served with the cash.

I was another who didn't think Walter should be brought back, but you can't argue with the results since his return.

My debate isn't whether he should start or not. It's whether he is more valuable on the bench or as money in the bank to investin players who will start. Walter has said that the squad doesn't need increased but he is looking to enhance the first team.

I heard an analysis of how he sets his team out using the Prozone thing a couple of months back. The difference in style of play from what Newcastle were doing last year to this is huge. And it was the same (although reversed) with Sammy lee at Bolton. I've said for the two seasons before this one that I would concede the title if we could start to build a base for the future, using talent from home or abroad culminatng in a squad that could compete for 5,6,7 years. I wanted us to get away from the Fan-fan, Letizi, Ostenstad panic signings and that's what has happened. This year it'll be very hard to take if we lose out on the title, but if we can keep the nucleus if the squad together and push on, simlarly to Scotlands efforts, I'll be gutted but looking forward to the future.
