Looking at the current playing squad, the issues with ownership and the stadium requirements, it would take a dedicated blind eye to see anything other than a downward trajectory for Chelsea over the next handful of seasons. They should stay top six or thereabouts but it might be a while before they routinely achieve CL qualification. There are plenty of other examples to point the way, the trick will be to not fall too far.

I hd a choice to watch the CL final between the Bank of Madrid and the Bank of Liverpool - or the League Two playoff final from Wembley between two proper football clubs. Naturally, I didn't chose the predictable bore fest in Paris, which is guaranteed to be everything I hate about the CL gravy train. Congratulations to Port Vale.

Twenty-five years ago I had a table of 8 in Club Deck Hospitality on a whole-season basis, which came out at £210 per seat per game. I'd be amazed if hospitality prices aren't considerably higher today although granted there's more hospitality choice these days.

Some are bound to be surplus to requirement but since many players are loaned out as part of a deliberate player development and trading strategy, it's very unlikely that all loan players can be defined in this way.

I agree about Diallo but I think it was more about signing the wrong player rather than the nature of his contract. He looked far out of his depth at rangers

That is such a good point and it applies to far more clubs than Rangers

It depends on so many factors that you really can't say that with and certainty ... what the player wants, what his parent club wants, what Rangers needs are at the time, what alternative players are available, what competition exists for the player's signature, and especially - how the player ultimately performs if signed. Bottom line is there are absolutely no guarantees either way and there prefer to many external factors in play for there ever to be a simple free choice.

Denigrating loan deals is such a futile activity. Loan deals are no better or worse that permanent signings, they're only more or less appropriate in any and every given recruitment project, which depends on a unique and complex mix of the needs of the individual player, the selling club, the acquiring club and whatever competition there is for the player's signature. If you're going to offer advice to Rangers it should simply be to recruit the best possible players on the best possible terms and in the best possible interests of the club. Whether that's on a loan deal or permanent contract should be utterly irrelevant.

Club loyalty aside, I think of the "top" clubs in England, Chelsea are alone in playing their football in a pig pen. The decision to do so has protected their finances compared with the other London clubs but they can't go on ignoring their stadium requirements forever ... or the cost that'll be involved. It's a dilemma for the new owner.

Patterson might be the ultimate development success. We get a homegrown young player established in the national team and sell him for £16m to an EPL club .... without ever having to make space for him in our own team. I wish we could do that a couple of times every season.

If we assume this £17m EL income is correct, does anyone know what our overall EL earnings might be when adding net matchday income and BTTV money?
